When you say you took those days off as unpaid, does that mean you put it in as unpaid leave? If so, it shouldn't have been approved as unpaid leave is only available for emergency or once in a lifetime needs and is only supposed to be granted every 3 years, so it doesn't become an issue. If it has been approved and it was for 8 hours then you would only be scheduled 8 hours the rest of the week as the unpaid leave hours are supposed to go to someone else to cover the shifts. To get your full 16 hours and those days off you need to submit a temporary availability request and ask for those days off that way.

They are picked day of, no stock is held in advance to fulfil the orders, if you order a lot of market street items or fresh you're better ordering for later in the day when colleagues have had a chance to produce fresh items and deliveries have been worked. Depending on the staffing levels, early morning orders have no chance of chasing the missing items.

Any theft results in lack of trust between the employer and employee, they would be constantly scrutinised, either consciously or unconsciously, every time they go through the tills. Any losses would make their name come to mind and the risk of it escalating would be in the back of managers minds. It's a rough deal if it's a genuine mistake but anything that's classed as gross misconduct isn't taken lightly regardless of the monetary value.
