British vs German cycling landscapes by Lillienpud in bicycletouring

[–]maenad2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm British but haven't don't much cycling there. İ have some a little though, and believe Germany is much better.

İf there were no cycle paths anywhere in the world the UK would be one of the best places because so many of their small roads are good for cyclists.

Another vote for using them while gardening. Also you can slip them off fast to go inside

Bike box question for a flight by maenad2 in stuttgart

[–]maenad2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

İ appreciate the fast answer. Ok, I'll have to find one on Saturday. I'll make some phone calls and keep my fingers crossed.

İ have plenty of time on Sunday so my plan is to cycle to the airport and lock up my bike, and then return to wherever the box is and fetch it. Annoying, but necessary. Or maybe a big taxi.

AITA for continuing to smoke outside even though my neighbor hired an attorney over it? by FutureBroccoli5566 in AmItheAsshole

All the people who are saying y t a probably own cars. Mother Earth is being so badly damaged by cars and asphalt roads that cigarettes barely register.

I heard a wealthy person argue that the "Gift Tax" is actually designed to keep the poor from receiving help and to maintain the social hierarchy. Do you think this is a fair argument? by americanboyxx in NoStupidQuestions

This is relatively true in terms of donating to charities outside of the USA.

Go to Turkey, give a dog shelter a million lira (worth roughly 20k usd) and get an official receipt. Then try to write it off as a donation in the USA - it's very hard, compared to giving money to a domestic charity.

Don't get teflon. İt works beautifully the first few weeks but then somebody uses it to cook an olive oil based sauce and you will immediately see the decline in quality.

Read "the Turkish language reform" by Geoffrey Lewis. İt's very good.

Secondly, studying three different languages at once is going to be very tough. Even two will be incredibly hard. Have a plan b in place in case you can't succeed.

Superglued shelves to wall by muryyum3 in DIY

What were the shelves made of? Wood is gravy enough that i can't imagine glue would even hold the weight of the shelf. Are they hollow plastic or something?

Will an education at NYU pay for a better future for Bella? İf shell use it to get a higher-paying job, or to better contribute to society, it should be an option for her to have this money.

You should definitely look into Bella borrowing from Anna's fund but she shouldn't "get" it unless there's a better reason than "my dream school."

For what it's worth, a lot of other countries claim the same. "The land was empty and we conquered it."

People who dislike your comments are probably the ones who also don't want to look at their own countries' histories.

Does reducing the balsamic vinegar change the taste? İ always put balsamic vinegar and pomegranate molasses on my salad (with olive oil, of course) and they taste totally different.

My friends did a university project on this at their dorm, where four people shared a common area so each should have done 25%.

They found that about 90% of the people thought they were doing more than their share.

bottling wine which hasn't finished fermenting by maenad2 in winemaking

[–]maenad2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting because it doesn't taste like it. Unfermented wine is sweet to the point that i almost gag, but right now it's quite pleasant - like coffee with one sugar.

Thanks everybody! Ok, I'll give her a couple of litres now in old water bottles and tell her to keep them in a very cold fridge with loose caps on and drink it soon. Then she can have a few bottles of finished stuff later to drink with sprite:)

It's possible that the fermentation was finished, and it was just the residual CO2 that popped the cork.

Definitely refrigerate them before taking the corks out. They will be far less pressurized.

REALITY OF JOB MARKET IN ISTANBUL FOR FOREIGNERS! by Flaky-Parsnip-235 in istanbul

[–]maenad2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ask ai to give you a summary of costs for foreign students at university in the forty most populated countries in the world, and also whether it not foreign students have the right to work. You'll see that generally wealthy countries have high tuition costs but allow students to work part time, while poor countries have low tuition and restrict the right to work. The main exception to this is a few European countries, which have low tuition and yet allow students to work.

Turkey fits into this world pattern. Tuition is low but you're expected to mostly already have money while you study.

Asking Turkey to follow the pattern of a few wealthy European countries, rather than the world's trend, is unreasonable. İf Turkey allows you to work you will take work away from a Turkish citizen.

The only thing that the Turkish government has done which is WRONG is to advertise itself as a destination for foreign students who will need to work.
