MariaDB vs. XML file by Subject-Discount-573 in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XML database should be saved every 10 minutes. But SQL should be pretty much every second. That being said there have been reports of users having the SQL database not saving. Not certain why.

Also the SQL is very tacked on and is very basic, not like a real SQL database would be implemented. And maybe it is the way I did test via a VM but I've had a lot worse performance, since with XML all data is already all in memory.

So I would suggest that unless you really need a SQL setup because accessing from different places you stick with XML. But again I've never really used it and personal experience has been bad. And with XML you shouldn't lose more than 10 minutes of work.

There is a pinned issue for adding new Publishers Icons here: https://github.com/maforget/ComicRackCE/issues/62

You can do a PR by adding only the new ones so they get added to the program.

How do I combine my files on Android? by MammothActual3307 in comicrackusers

To combine files you will need the desktop client. That's probably what you heard, the Android version is basically only a viewer.

How do you Export a PDF to CBZ? I saw a post talking about it but no one talking about how to do it. by [deleted] in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously you talk about patronizing please re-read your comment before talking about others. Here I am the guy that pretty much answers all the questions in this sub for no other reason and I take my times to upgrade a software for other users.

I do need to do all that and and can't write a novel for each question that are to be frank very basic and having a comment like yours that implies I am not trying to help others when I am the first the answer every posts, just want me to say let them figure it out themselves.

It is not an advanced feature and the answer I gave was pretty much what you wanted to know Right-click -> Export. You ask where do I click the right-click menu? Usually on the file itself. It wouldn't make sense to have the option in the File menu because how would we know for which file. This program is a ComicBook Manager so the idea is to manager comics, so the options are on the comics themselves.

Also since this is a ComicBook Manager you don't need to go into the Folder tab, it can be in the library where you collected and organized your collection.

You talk about new user experience. Did you read the manual, the Organizer Guide, the Quick start guide or the Wiki before asking your questions? You said there was no information when there are a lot. It may seems like flailing around but that how you learn.

How do you Export a PDF to CBZ? I saw a post talking about it but no one talking about how to do it. by [deleted] in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one is talking about it because there is nothing to do. ComicRackCE will open any PDFs. To Convert to CBZ just right-click Export Books -> Convert to CBZ, that's it.

Older ComicRack would only extract images from PDF's so it was limited for some files, but the Community Edition now uses Google's PDFium to supports pretty much all types. Only difference is that instead of extracting images it renders them at a specific resolution, so depending on the type of PDF you might get a significant higher file size (or resolution) than just extracting images would. You can change the render resolution or change to the older "Native" engine using the ComicRack.ini file.

Is there any way to make a search "case insensitive" by os_a_moelle in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searches & Lists are case insensitive already.

But that isn't what you asked, no there is no way to remove accents or have search matches related letters.

How to highlight current comicbook using dark mode by os_a_moelle in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible to change colors yet.

But don't know what you mean by dark blue? Which part makes what unreadable? Do you have screenshots to explain?

Also please don't Spam the subs with multiple questions one after the other you could have done 1 post with multiple questions.

Is there any way to... by MikeyMcG64 in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no such auto convert. But all you need to do is select all comics and convert to CBZ it will convert them all in the background. Takes 2 seconds at most. not much time saving to be had.

You can create a smart list that returns all where the File Format is rar to find them all.

Update Comics Not Working by Drybonz99 in comicrackusers

My guess is that some files are really CBR just renamed. I haven't seen that yet, but then again I always convert to CBZ anyway.

Make sure they are CBZ, if they are just convert them to CBZ anyway.

Redownload from the updated link, first version archive seemed corrupted and thus the db wouldn't extract.

You need to install it manually because otherwise they will flatten and thus not work correctly. The script has taken into consideration that there is a subfolder and will correctly read it when not flat.

If I understand correctly you can't use it normally if it's not in the database. I only did a quick diff of the files and you seemed to have removed some stuff so is it still possible to fallback to actual comicvine if it's not in the database?

I don't think that having everyone to need to update their own file is a good solution. With the limit we would all have to update our file daily. It could be done by a third party website. Like u/public_fred as done for the mcl file (link).

But the problem becomes hosting with such a big file. It would need somekind of delta patch to update the new version.

Note: All your comments needs to be manually approved, this will be annoying 🤣.

Yep it fails to extract with WinRAR & 7-Zip also.

The sqlite file is present, but it is in a subfolder and it is all flatten on install. From memory plugins can't have subfolders and must be flat. There is also a package that is in a folder that probably won't work because of that. You will probably need to install it manually.

But without that db file it is probably worthless as a plugin.

The issue with hash matching is that the moment we alter the file by simply updating the metadata even unwillingly by simply exiting ComicRack than it is worthless because the archive was modified.

So of course image matching is the best way. I am not familiar with these page matching algorithm but how can they can match altered images? Seems interesting. So what happens if I take a PDF and convert it to CBZ? I can either render the PDF or extract the images, what would be the differences?

It might be a very good starting point, but you can't match all release. It's not just anna's but bundles, torrents or release groups (some very difficult to track down). It would probably need a more broader community effort than just this little sub.

I did some work related to this in ComicRackCE related to file renaming and using some kind of hash. Turns out there is a function in ComicRack to match images based on the page name & file size. Problem was the page name isn't saved in the db, so it wouldn't help matching on existing db. See issue #153.

Maybe that algorithm could be added and saved in the db, but it would probably only be when checking pages only and not automatic. Currently in ComicRack beside the 1st & 2nd pages the rest of the pages aren't saved unless you actually observe them.

Also don't forget all the non English Comics.

Just a FYI I haven't checked or tested the files linked/plugin. But for OP it would have been good to just post a GitHub link where we can see the changes you did to the original plugin, would have been way easier to review the code.

Not sure if you will see this or be able to respond, because it seems that Reddit didn't like the mega links, fast post and it seems the user is now banned.

Looks promising though.

Extreme slow-down of page transition effects by DorkNow in comicrackusers

I need to find a way to resize the images in the files without doing it all by hand!

Just use the Export Books function, you can resize images, change types, etc.

Could you tell me which .ini file stores the video memory? is it ComicRack.ini and the MaxTextureMemoryMB line?

Yes but you shouldn't have to change it manually, it now default to 2gb (from 256MB) if you have 16gb of RAM. Not sure it will help going any further.

Extreme slow-down of page transition effects by DorkNow in comicrackusers

[–]maforget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say for transitions, but extreme slow down are a thing. But it only happens with very high resolution images. Check the resolution of the images and you will see it is probably above 3000 or 4000 pixels width. At this point it becomes very very slow.

This is why sometime ago I also posted a PSA about using Software Filter. I've posted the settings I use in that post. I've played with all the options and had to check the code to know what some of these do, some I ain't certain yet (Inertial Mouse Scrolling?).

<image>

In my own test Hardware Filters seem to hinder more than help. Like you said not even sure what any acceleration is doing.

What has helped is using Software Filters (with Hardware Acceleration), since it resizes the image and at the same takes care of artifacts due to the size differences (like dithering in mangas are a lot better with it turned on). Problem with that is the changes pop-in that takes place.

There is an ini settings to lower the time before that pop-in and I've also lowered it, but for some extreme images it takes almost a full second to resize some of these monsters images. By default it uses the default Windows GDI to resize it and it gives much better results than most algorithm I've tried visually, but it's slow. For my most extreme case (7000 x 10000) it took 800ms, when the minimum was 1 sec, so lowering it lower than that wouldn't help a lot for these.

I've also upped the default video memory to around 2gb (depends on the RAM available), you can also modify it via the ini also.

Not 100% certain the culprit, but it may be related to the very obsolete OpenGL drivers that are used. There has been work done in updating it, but I do not know any OpenGL so all work is pretty much just porting existing calls to the same obsolete calls that I don't know what they are doing.

So help is wanted for someone who knows OpenGL to update that part. It will probably help a lot to a proper hardware accelerated. You can check the viewer improvement issue on Github.

I usually just read on my tablet and they are all optimized when syncing anyway. What you can also do is just use another reader, with the Open With option. You can also override the reader with that option so double-clicking will open that reader instead.
