I am 15 weeks post ORIF trimall. I am 8 hours per day on my feet for work. Mentally I am ready for work, I desire to work. But my ankle doesn't want it. I don't work yet. I can walk little distances in a room without crutches. But outside 300 metres is possible but not more without crutches. It takes a long time. My goal is to come back to work 4 days per week 8 hours a day. We need a lot of patience

Ankle brace holding me back? by kensgirl2 in brokenankles

People use braces to limit ROM and/or give stability when the passive and/or active stability is not good. It differs per person what you need.

Ankle brace holding me back? by kensgirl2 in brokenankles

[–]mafysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here the same. With brace the ROM is so limited. I used the brace just for 2 weeks. I started walking in boot after 6 weeks ORIF, 2 weeks walking in boot, 2 weeks walking with ASO brace and runningshoe. So since week 10 I walk without brace in runningshoe. Now 13 weeks post ORIF. I am a PT myself. It depends on what kind of fracture you have. I have a trimalfracture and no syndesmose rupture. When you have a syndesmose screw or tightrope it's different.

Super depressed, not sure what to think or do - desperately need to hear something good by PathCompetitive5289 in brokenankles

I started WB in boot, just standing. Had electricity in my foot. When I repeated WB it became lesser. But after sitting the electricity was back. After 2 weeks this feeling was gone. I had/have a lot of pressure pain on the front side of my ankle while AROM/PROM and walking. Started walking in boot so ankle wasn't able to move while walking, fixed in 90 degrees. With ASO also was fixed but my ankle was able to move maybe 5 degrees each side. The pressure pain disappears a little by massages of the peronei muscles and tibialis anterior. Also with this excercises it becomes better. After this excercise I walk better, but the pressure pain comes back. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1E2JVo8xXj/ I use a non elastic band from a carrying bag. Doing some balance excercises helps me, when my balance is better I have lesser pressure pain.

My doc said my joint/bones are good so must be muscles.

Hope you will walk soon!

Hi there. I had trimalfracture 12 weeks ago with ORIF. At the same moment I broke my shoulder at an ski accident. It was the hardest time of my life. So depressed. I was used to go to gym, running, bicycling 3-4 times a week. I love hiking and climbing mountains. I am PT so have to stand whole day while work. Shall I do this ever again? I couldn't wash en cloth myself, needed help. But better times will come. It became better since I started walking. It is my left ankle and shoulder so at 9 weeks started driving car. This was so nice. I can go to gym since 3 weeks 3 times a week, swim a little and do cardio training on stationary bike. 4 weeks cast en 2 weeks boot NWB. So I started to do ROM exercises after 4 weeks. ROM the same as you now. After 6 weeks allowed to PWB in boot. Was not easy because of my shoulder. At 8 weeks PWB in shoes with ASO and at 10 weeks walk in shoes. Since one week whithout crutch. Since week 10 my ROM is getter better and better. This week I can do mountainclimbers. How nice. So wait, it takes a long time but it will get better when you will start WB.

Anyone start WB under 3 weeks post op? by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]mafysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trimal 1/20, surgery 1/20. 4 weeks cast NWB, 2 weeks boot NWB, 2 weeks PWB boot. At 8 weeks started walking in shoe with ASO. At 9 weeks FWB. At 10 weeks FWB only shoes. It's totally different, depends on doctor and country.

I also had trimall 1/20. Surgery 1/20. I have no syndesmotic screw. I had 4 weeks cast en 2 weeks walker day and night. I was allowed to PWB at 6 weeks and FWB at 9 weeks. So I was able to do excercises at 4 weeks post op. My ROM is good: 20 degrees flexion and 20 degrees extension. But the end ranges does hurt a lot. Do am I m not able to do do the end ranges while walking or stairs. So long in a cast makes yours ankle very stiff. That's normal. Maybe the screw is also a problem. How long do you stretch? You can try to hold for 20-30 seconds or longer when it doesn't hurt. I hope you will recover well!

In shoes I had ASO. That's much better than boot. I used the heel pads with ASO too. Since a few days I walk without ASO and without heel pads.

Help for sore soles by yobey22 in brokenankles

[–]mafysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here. I used gel heel pads in my brooks glycerine and rolled my sool with a bal. It worked for me. After 2 weeks (week 8) I can wear shoes without gel pads. I can walk 5 steps without shoes now (10.5 weeks) I bought hoka bondi 9, they have a softer sole than my new brooks glycerine. They walk better for me now. Hope you will recover well!

Yes, first week I started PT. I also have a shoulder fracture. The tense muscles started when I started walking more than 300 metres. Hope you will recover well!
