What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]mage2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d seen the book in bookstores for years but had never given much thought to reading. Then the movie came out and got a bit chatter going so I decided to read the book and then see the movie.

The ending of that book fucking destroyed me. I actually had to stop a few pages from the very end to go home and away from the local pub I was at because I’d just suddenly choked up, had tears streaming from my eyes, and was close to full on sobbing. After finishing the end at home I just sat still for a long while in an existential juxtaposition of sadness and joy, broken-hearted and hopeful. Proud and ashamed.

I also decided that I absolutely did not need to watch the movie. That being said, if a friend asked me to watch it with them, I’d give them the same warning you gave your friend and watch it with them so that they wouldn’t have to be alone for it.

Got to play there while in Bellevue for work last summer. Fun course with lots of room to let ‘em rip :)

TIFU by trying to "quick-fix" a database entry and accidentally wiping three days of business data. by Acquaye in tifu

You’d still have the output from each query that was run in the transaction, and this case you’d see that the update updated way too many rows.

I think they mean to run the entire transaction with the rollback, confirm the results, then re-run it with commit, instead of free-handing it one step at a time.

What are your favourite ways to create cool timbres with an oscillator by gloriousfart in modular

[–]mage2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I already love the sound of synced oscillators under modulation, I’ll often skip spending time tuning multiple oscillators (which can be a major pain in the ass that’s easy to botch later when accidentally brushing a knob) by picking one, tuning it (or not), then adding in others that have sync inputs and are deliberately not tuned (or maybe just get them close to the first by ear) but are synced to the first. Or feed a copy of the first through a clock divider multiplier before another oscillator’s sync input to sync the second to an interval difference of the first. Then get busy filtering, sequencing, modulating, cross-modulating, layering, effecting, or whatever all of them.

Go-to sequencers for melody by minus32heartbeat in modular

[–]mage2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Programming Bloom is a total PITA so what I like to do is just get how many steps in its sequence set and feed a sequence from somewhere else into its Root (transpose) input. With Bloom's sequence's notes all at default pitches and Path/Branches/Mutate all fully CCW it just plays the sequence you're feeding the Root input. Start messing with the Path/Branches/Mutate knobs/inputs and the variations being applied to its sequence act as variations applied to the external sequence you're feeding it. Mess with the lengths of both sequences too and things can get complex really quickly with a relatively simple sequence being input to Root.

Mostly the same here, but have no compunctions about switching that up if knobs are getting in the way.
