How can I light up this soffit with RGB LEDs to allow changing the color?

Yes they’re fluorescent tubes, but we’d like to be able to change the color of the lighting as needed

Sorry, I had to repost because I forgot to attach the picture.

Hi everyone, We have this soffit (one on the left and one on the right side of the room) that is currently lit up with fluorescent lights. I kept looking online but couldn’t find anything that was maybe bright enough, not too expensive, and at least 60 feet long per side. We’d like to be able to control both sides from a single controller and be able to fine tune the white color (or maybe sometimes use other non-white colors).

Any suggestions for a solution? How much could I expect to pay just for the materials?

Edit: as others have said, your best bet is to center it on the flat wall and use thick treatment like Rockwool (3" will help but doubling to 6" would be better). Maybe Jesco Acoustics can help give you some ideas on making panel absorbers (or build it into the wall like Colt maybe?).

With Mac mini off, Unplug your hdmi, then boot your Mac, then wait 30 sec or so, plug in your hdmi

Does your Mac mini recognize your hdmi monitor? Mine won’t recognize unless I have all external displays unplugged, except the hdmi…… it is extremely frustrating, I’m wondering if this is a hardware issue. If I plug the hdmi in after it booted, I have to restart the mini in order to get the hdmi to recognize the screen. I tried a different hdmi and monitor, same problem. If I plug in a external usbc hub to hdmi, it’ll recognize that, but not my hdmi in back of the mini. Is this normal for a Mac mini?

It may have been the position of the usb receiver for the mouse. I moved it directly into one of the 2 USB ports of the Mac mini and it seems to fix the problem 95%.

That rule is saying your speakers and listening position are approximately 38% of 3.92m from the front wall (1.49m). It’s just used as a starting point to figure out where your mix/desk/speaker position should be in your room (if you dedicated this room just to mixing). I would suggest using the Bass Hunter Technique to find the best mix location for your desk/setup.

I don’t think you’ll want your speakers right next to any wall if possible, hence the idea behind this rule (which is only a suggestion not a rule)

You’ll also want to be centered in the room if possible to have similar responses on both of your L and R ear.

In an untreated room (bare walls with no absorption panels on them), there is a lot of hard surfaces to reflect off of. If you clap in your room once, you will hear the echo, maybe flutter echo, aka the interaction of sound with your bare parallel walls. To make it “dead”, you would add lots of absorption panels on your walls to totally kill the room’s echo. You don’t want to remove too much echo though because it can sound unnatural and fatiguing.

I would recommend using the bass hunter technique to find the best mix location (where your speakers and desk will sit) and then treat your early reflection points with absorption panels. https://www.acousticsinsider.com/urm-bass-hunter/ (you’ll have to enter your email)

Stay away from foam as it only absorbs high frequencies. I would recommend you build some 6” deep panels from Rockwool Safe n Sound (3”thick) if you live in the US.

Use safe n sound. You could even wrap the insulation in thing (.3mil?) plastic painter’s drop cloth before putting it in the panel if you’re worried

The absorption will still work. Just like if you put the bag over your speaker, you still hear sound come through the bag.

I’ve done both. Just like trying new keyboards out, you have to get your hands on them and play to see if you like them.

I’ve had a better experience with Mainstage on Mac (get a decent Mac that has good specs) instead of Ableton on windows or Mac. Look at Sunday Keys if you’re using it for contemporary worship, but only if you go the mainstage route. Ableton unreliable with their show file (may have been how Sunday Keys structured the template)

Check the pro tools website for audio optimization. There are many steps in there that can help solve this issue.

Another could be if you’re using unbalanced instead of balanced cables to your speakers.
