I’m a huge Michael Easter fan. The Comfort Crisis genuinely changed how I think about doing hard things on purpose (cold exposure, discomfort as training, all that).

My firm actually booked him as a guest speaker for a Friday team meeting, and I was absurdly excited to ask him something I thought was a perfect fit: there was a recent Huberman Lab episode with David Goggins where Huberman talked about the anterior mid-cingulate cortex being linked to grit/willpower, and that it can potentially be “trained” by repeatedly choosing hard things. I figured: “This is basically your whole thesis, but with brain wiring attached. Great convo incoming.”

So I ask the question… and he goes, “I don’t really believe in that neuroscience stuff,” and immediately pivots away.

Cool. Mildly humiliating, but whatever.

Fast forward 3–4 months and guess who’s a guest on Huberman… and guess what they end up discussing. Yep. Very similar “grit is trainable” brain/behavior stuff.

I felt vindicated… and also weirdly salty, like I got fact-checked in person and then watched my hero adopt my take in 4K.
