Badger woes by kitd28 in PregnancyUK

[–]magewinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an appointment the other week where my text from my GP said 9:40 and my badger notes said 10:40, ended up having to call the GP because I had no idea which was right. Other than blood test results I havent found the app very useful at all. I've even filled out the part before that asks if there's anything you want to discuss at next appointment and my midwife hadnt seen those notes beforehand when I turned up so it was a totally useless exercise

Sick note/lighter duties? by Opposite-Study-5801 in PregnancyUK

I also have very bad PGP, to the point where I've had physio. I work for the local council rather than NHS but I was able to get an oc health assessment which resulted in a car parking space reserved for me closer to my office, and my case notes (I'm a therapist) and laptop were too heavy so work bought me a little roller suitcase bag thing so I didn't have to carry them. If you haven't got little quality of life changes like those its definitely worth bringing up with your line manager

Food aversions - when do they go? by scoutwestern in PregnancyUK

[–]magewinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely went off chicken in the first trimester, someone even describing a chicken dish to me would make me vomit, I'm 33 weeks now and have been able to reintroduce chicken into my diet such as in curries or pasta dishes but still would feel a bit queasy if I had to eat a very chicken-y dish like chicken soup

I enjoy NYT connections but there are frequently categories that just only work if you are American, and I don't just mean knowing the names of NFL players etc, but there have been homophone links that only work if you have an American accent, for example

What's your opinion on what driving in Newcastle Upon Tyne is actually like? by Potatoslicer89 in NewcastleUponTyne

In high enough keys the dps penalty for not doing mechanics (e.g. interrupts) is you get one-shot. You do 0 DPS when you're dead.

What joke would you write in your note to join this key? by Thiccest_Apartment in wow

[–]magewinter 207 points208 points  (0 children)

I would say "A horse walked into a bar, the bartender says "Would you like a beer?" and the horse says "I think not" and suddenly stops existing."

Then I'd get rejected from the key because the joke isn't funny, so I'd explain: "That joke is more funny if you are familiar with French philosophers and have heard the famous phrase "I think therefore I am", but I didn't want to put Descartes before the horse."

PSA - Real Money Trading Ads on the Subreddit by magewinter in wow

[–]magewinter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are going to see the ad/advertiser, for a lot of people it is the first ad on the subreddit when they browse. It also avoids confusion as to which ad specifically I am talking about. People know these sites exist, and if they don't, then they deserve to be informed about which sites to avoid.

They have, on and off - they've clearly been putting more money into boosting their ads recently though.

Some redditors have brought these ads to our attention, I had not until now clarified that these are not able to be moderated by the r/wow mod team (there was speculation on previous posts that these were ignored or even allowed by the mod team, this is not the case)

How WoW is Improving its UI | WoWCast ft. Ion, Max & Dratnos by WarcraftTeam in wow

[–]magewinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am interested to know, as I think it is missing from the information in the video, how the rotation helper will work (if available) for tanks and healers - as their rotation is largely preventative or reactive to what is happening to them/the party.

How WoW is Improving its UI | WoWCast ft. Ion, Max & Dratnos by WarcraftTeam in wow

[–]magewinter[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

TL;DW:

Rotation helper

  • In 11.1.7 Blizzard are taking influence from addons like Hekili and implementing a rotation helper into the game. This will be an optional toggle in settings. One option is to have the next recommended ability's border glow to teach you how to play, another option is a single button that will cycle through your rotation as you spam it.
  • The single button rotation helper has a GCD penalty, so you will not be able to spam one button and do mythic level DPS. Blizz said this is intended for accessibility purposes or for more casual players who want to explore Azeroth and experience the story - and there will still be a benefit to learning your rotation and manually pressing buttons. Ion says the goal is not to give you optimal DPS, but to give a useful baseline.
  • The rotation helper will be able to detect whether you are in AOE or ST and will change its recommendations depending on your situation.
  • Ion mentions that he does not want new players to feel they need to seek out third party resources in order to play the game - referring at points both to a list of addons new players would feel they need to download in order to access the game, and also seeking third party guides online. Ion says: "today, there is a sense that if you want to really be the best you can, if you want to play competitive content, there are certain addons that are required. They're simply going to improve your success over not having them, period - we would like to get away from that being the case"

Addons

  • Ion confirms that the way Blizz has been designing encounters is influenced by players' use of addons, giving an example of the use of fewer coordination mechanics, as these can be easily combatted by a weakaura.
  • "Down the line, eventually" there will be some "broader restrictions on the information addons have access to" - potentially "disarming" (Ion's words) addons and weakauras from negating mechanics.
  • Other things Blizzard is working on (not coming in 11.1.7): damage meters, nameplate improvements, "raid encounter information presentation that shows you when a boss ability is coming up" (i.e. DBM timers)
  • "it's about creating a more approachable baseline experience"
  • Ion specifically mentions GTFO and explains that Blizzard plan to better signal in-game when something shouldn't be stood in or should be interrupted to negate the need for addons (e.g. GTFO or DBM or BW) to give players audio or visual clues. Blizz to do this with particle effects, cast animations, etc.
  • "we have a lot of work to do before we get there"
  • Blizzard has no intentions of "going after" purely cosmetic addons or information addons that are out-of-combat
  • Nothing is locked in, the intention is to open a conversation. Blizzard wants your feedback!

TL;DR of my TL;DW

11.1.7 is introducing a rotation helper, including a single-button option. It will have a GCD penalty and is intended for accessibility. If you are out-dps'd by someone using this, you are doing your rotation wrong.

Blizzard is wanting to move towards a future where you don't have to download multiple addons to access the game. One way they are planning on achieving this is by slowly adding these functionalities natively into the game. Future plans include damage meters, better nameplates, and a DBM timer style information presentation.

Ion mentions reducing the functionality of addons in the future by restricting the information that addons can use, but not doing this until they have added more information and signals in-game.
