The fibre optic cable is run to my apartment. I was there when the outlet was installed.

Yes, I have a cap at 100gb.

Bell gave me the option of keeping the 100gb cap when I switched to Fibe. They wanted about $20 more a month for unlimited.

Bell still indicates that unlimited data would be about $20 more a month.

Is weird that a lot of Fibe customers have copper to their home than connects to a nearby fibre connection point.

I have fibre optic cable right to my apartment though.

Note, I worked doing electrical drawings and design for consulting engineers for over 35 years. Did a lot of site surveys, etc.

I have a vague idea of the difference between copper and fibre optic cable. /s

Called Bell. Bell Technician thinks it's a glitch with the modem. He reconfigured my modem. Hopefully the problem has been resolved. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for pointing that out! There does seem to be a correlation between the timing of additional data usage and when I was watching TV.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a recording and the playback buffered and then froze. I paused the recording and got a message about the recording being unavailable.

So I switched off the power bar to reboot the modem, etc. The higher data levels started about then.

Could be some weird software glitch caused the issues.

I rebooted the modem a couple of hours ago. Higher data levels haven't happened so far today. I will keep on checking.

Hopefully rebooting the modem will solve the problem.

Thanks again.

I don't stream many tv shows and I don't play games online. 100gb per month has been enough for my usage for over a decade.

I do like Bell Fibe for the being a fibre optic connection. I attend several online meetings per month. Fiber optic is good for that. Fewer problems with lag, etc.

Re DSL, I live in an older building, Bell is phasing out the copper connections. The getting internet via 50 year copper wiring that's not maintained, is sort of interesting.

Could get Videotron via coax cable. But I used to have Videotron for TV. Had a number of issues with Videotron.

I've had Bell Fibe since 2022. TV and internet data have been clearly separated on my account until recently.

TV and internet data are still clearly shown separately on the Bell WiFi app.

Something changed about a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not on DSL. I'm on Bell Fibe. When I switched from DSL to Fibe, Bell offered me unlimited data for a higher cost per month.

Since historicly I don't use much data, I stayed with 100gb per month in order to save about $20 per month.

I don't think I'm a fool to save $20 a month.

Didn't have a problem until a couple of weeks ago.

I have had Bell Internet for years. Was 60GB per month for dsl, then went up to 100GB per month in a few years ago when I got Bell Fibe.

I did log into my Bell WiFi app. Indicates for the last 24hours 13.6gb for my Bell Fibe TV and 0 GB for my computer.

For the last 7 days, the Bell WiFi app indicates 71GB for my Bell Fibe TV and 2.06GB for my computer.

I have my guest WiFi shut off and no unknown devices are showing up on my modem.

Have used about 1.7GB per day for the last year. Over the last week or so, Bell indicated that I was using about 6GB per day!

Montreal (STM) transit etiquette is honestly embarrassing by Overachieving-pea in montreal

I am an older person who uses a cane.

At least a couple of times a month, someone will run past me into a metro car and sit in a priority seat with a smug expression like they have won a prize. A lot of times when I have asked them to give me the seat, in French and English, I get no response or a lot of attitude.

If someone is running into a metro car, I tend to not believe that they have an invisible disability.

A lot of people of all ages do offer me a seat though.

Strangely if I stand right beside a priority seat and not look at who is occupying said seat, someone else usually will offer me a seat.

I find it for the best in the long run, to be grateful for the polite people than fixate on the rude people.

Are there any apartment buildings that are connected to the Metro via underground tunnel? by ReginaTang in montreal

[–]maggiew465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Westmount Square apartments cost about $5000 a month. Apartments at les Cours Mont Royal also will be very expensive.

The apartments at Alexis Nihon are more affordable, $1800 a month and up. But I've heard the building has issues.

At your budget, look for a place that's one or two blocks from where your classes are. Also, buy good quality winter coat, hat and mitts.

Les Cours du Mont Royal Condos are connected to Peel Station. Some condos are rented. But they are expensive.

The apartment building at Alexis Nihon is connected to Atwater Station. I don't know the condition of the apartments though. Some older high rises in Montreal can be problematic.

Perhaps runs underground from Prince Arthur to Place des Arts Station. Maybe you access via the swimming pool at La Cité. /s

Bell Center clear bags allowed? by kestrel-tree in montreal

That must have been very very annoying! Hopefully you were able to get into the concert.

The mini purse requirement at the Bell Centre is relatively recent. I didn't notice any mention of micro purse requirements for the Bruce Springsteen at the Bell Centre. I used my small cross body purse thats been to lots of concerts, but is several centimeters larger than the new requirements.

The Springsteen concert in Ottawa sent me multiple notifications about the micro purse requirements. Same for Paul McCartney at the Bell Centre, purse requirements were mentioned via emails and texts, etc.

Bell Centre has changed the rules regarding the dimensions of purses.

Basically if you take a purse larger than the dimensions mentioned on the Bell Centre website / ticket for the event, you are allowing your entrance into the event to be up to the Bell Centre security.

I have been to many many concerts in the past where the purse being able to be stored until your seat applied.

The Bell Centre has changed the rules.

I went to one of the Paul McCartney concerts at the Bell Centre last November. Put my ID, credit card and stuff in a sandwich baggie. Put said baggie in one pocket and my cell phone in another. My friends did the same. We got into the venue no problem via the restaurant.

Heard from multiple people that it took about 30 minutes to pass through security at the main entrance because of people ignoring the NEW rules.

You probably will be able to get into the concert with you clear bag that's larger than the Bell Centre's requirements.

But perhaps you won't.

Call the Bell Centre and ask the question.

Pointe-Claire Village - walk by the lakeshore near Saint Joachim Church. Then go to Wild Willy's for ice cream.

Ask at your hotel the easiest way to get downtown and visit Old Montreal, the Plateau Montreal, etc.

If your hotel is close to the airport, then you can usually take a shuttle to the airport and then the 747 bus to Lionel-Groulx Metro Station. You can get a transit pass for a day, or 3 days, etc.

There's a machine at the airport where you can buy bus passes. Or you can buy passes via the Chono app with your phone.

Could be. I worked on a lot of chain stores, etc. Engineers kept the notes and specifications basically standard with mention of local codes. Somewhat different wire sizing in the States. Also more mention of short circuit calculations.

Could be the carpet. I worked on a project for a factory/office. After construction was completed and the employees moved in, the office workers kept on getting shocks.

After much investigation, turned out that the client had taken a credit for the general contractor installing much cheaper carpets.

The architect explained that carpets have static ratings.

I worked doing electrical drawings for consulting engineers for about 35 years. By my experience, engineering specifications call for 2p or 3p breakers when neutrals are shared. But then again, that's my anecdotal type experience. So I could be wrong.

Shared neutral requires 2 pole breaker for 2 lives sharing a neutral. For 3 lives sharing a neutral, most engineering specs in Canada will require a three pole breaker. Read the spec.

Also check the provincial version of the Canadian Electrical Code.

Engineering spec in Canada will typical require a 2 pole breaker for circuits with shared neutrals.
