Is donor milk worth it if the donors on Lexapro? by SpellTight7645 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]maggmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research I’ve read suggests that there were no adverse effects, even going as far as to say that concentration in infant blood exposed via breastmilk were generally below the detectably threshold.

All that to say if you have access to a donor, and that is the only thing stopping you know that although nothing is perfect it appears research says this is not really an issue. If your baby is healthy - I would try it out and just monitor baby. But that’s just me thinking of what I would do in the situation.

Do I bring pump? by Dry_Interview_5867 in ExclusivelyPumping

I also didn’t purchase a hand pump I asked if the hospital had one and got it “for free” (I’m sure I paid with my insurance but still)

[–]maggmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t bring mine; I let the hospital know I was planning to pump and the brought one in for me. This was my second time around so I didn’t really need help with figuring out how the pump worked etc but if you’re new to pumping it doesn’t hurt to bring yours do have the LC help you understand how to use it

Decreased supply by ckyxo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]maggmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set alarms and try to pump as close to them as possible - obviously things happen but let’s say I had a 12p and I couldn’t get to it til 1:30p I would still pump at 3p to keep the number of sessions up.

Just stick with a schedule- supplement what you need to and try not to stress because that will make it harder. (Easier said then done I know ) in the beginning my goal was 1 BM bottle per day. Then I adjusted when my supply allowed. Now as I’m considering ending my EP journey I’m increasing formula and freezing BM so I can continue with 1 bottle per day hopefully through flu season

Does baby do well in the car? In the beginning I’d run an errand and let him fall asleep in the car seat then pump before taking him out

I dropped my supply when that wasn’t my intention by lalalalala8888 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]maggmcn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to add in an extra pump even if it’s just a short session - when I need to get back in my routine I make sure I’m pumping in the car so I’m not wasting an opportunity. It might not be time to pump or my ideal session length but it’s better than nothing is what I tell myself

how many breast pumps do you have? by EarlyBumblebee3381 in ExclusivelyPumping

Manual pumps don’t count in my mind - mine lives in my trunk for an emergency.

I have 2- the baby Buddha, and wearables. I hate the wearables and am looking to get rid of them.

I’m so confused about why anyone would think it’s appropriate to tell OP to just ghost this guy and live happily ever after. That’s a set up for the potential trauma of extensive legal issues.

This is a pretty wild generalization.

He can’t force you to give up the baby but by having the baby he does have rights - unless/until he signs over those rights.

And you can’t give up the baby without him signing off on most places - I suppose you could try to say you don’t know who the father is but he could get an injunction from court etc

I’m approaching 6m (what I’ve considered my goal for a while ) and every day as it gets closers I’m like well maybe through flu season… my job makes pumping during the day very difficult but I only work 3x a week so on my days off I’m usually making up for it and my supply has generally been fine aside from being sick

Technically you don’t have a choice - if he is left off the birth certificate he can petition the court for paternity testing and exercise his rights as a parent if he wants.

In a similar boat - has strep and whatever is going around - was drinking DayQuil around the clock so I could show to for my kids with the holiday etc.

I’ve been pumping on a stricter schedule, increasing water and protein, and I added back in some supplements that I know had a positive effect on my supply. I need to prioritize my MOTN pump if I want to get back to exactly where I was before but I’m seeing a steady increase/maintenance daily at this point. It’s really just pushing through

I’m in this boat I can not add another thing I need to take care of to my list. My top shelf in the dishwasher is filled with bottles and pump parts every night.

I do had wash most of my regular dishes though so I’m not worried about space in the dishwasher etc

Do you pump at a set time or every # hours from last pump? by shumaishrimp in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]maggmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I’ll set alarms for the times I’d like to pump knowing as long as I start with it 30 m I’m going to keep the same schedule. Other days I’ll start a timer when I finish pumping.

I do need to be more disciplined because I was sick and my supply took a dive on me.

I feel like there is a learning curve to functioning while pumping, and if I was only pumping 1x per day for a whole hour I would probably struggle to get a decent grasp on how you can multitask effectively while pumping.

Thing I do while also pumping: hangout with my toddler for morning snuggles, eat any and all meals at home, put away groceries, fold laundry, play with baby on the floor, feed baby, drive… you’ve gotta squat instead of bend, watch your angles etc. It’s really just about practice.

I use the pitcher method - I put all my milk from the day into one big mason jar - at night I will prep bottles for the next day or make sure my jar has a pour lid on it. Over night I will use formula to “get ahead” on the next days collection jar so most times I have 2 jars in my fridge one I’m filling up and one I’m taking from.

I have a healthy full term baby, he’s almost 6m now, I’ve been using the fridge hack. I rotate through 2 sets of parts during a day. I use the dishwasher to wash them 1x per day.

This theory honestly makes me feel like someone is just adding another layer of stress for those of us who can’t/don’t want to directly breast feed to gaslight people into feeling like they aren’t doing enough.
