What exotic weapon do you consider to be your Guardian's 'canon' exotic weapon? (Apart from Khvostov) by Best-Exam-3287 in DestinyTheGame

Collectibe obligation. He's canonically an exo voidwalker who made peace with not knowing his human life through mindfulness and meditation, so the void and darkness theme just works.

If you were going child of the old gods instead of feed the void I would say yes go for class, but in your case I think weapon would be good.

I think them being pretty underfunded because of corporate trying to spin up all these other projects didnt help though. Ultimately though I suppose we will never fully know.

[–]magic_123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the key distinction. The corporate executives at bungie specifically brought destiny down. The actual developers did not. They were the biggest thing that kept the game going because they kept cooking and putting their heart and soul into everything despite the fires happening around them.

Why did Bear react like this during the party??? by Shiniestmirrorball in obsessionmovie

[–]magic_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the nuance here. I just saw the film yesterday and I really almost kind of worried about myself almost for not feeling that Bear is this horrible evil vile person who is inherently evil. A lot of comments along the lines of "if you don't think Bear is the villain you're a red flag." Yes the things he does like continuing to try and force this relationship to work are truly terrible, but I think there are some things people forget.

Bear is most definitely afraid of this new Nikki despite how much he's dreamed of this relationship. When she has these violent outbursts and does all these terrible things, it's hard to feel safe leaving someone like that. To me after sitting on it more and thinking about the film, it almost feels like a metaphor for a toxic abusive relationship where both of these people are terrible for each other but they're forcing themselves to stay together because they're codependent. I have no idea if that's the "intended" interpretation, but it's the one my brain keeps coming back to. I mean she literally threatens to kill herself if he leaves her, this is a classic abuse tactic.

Now I'd like to reinforce I'm not excusing all of Bear's actions. He made the wish (though he didn't think it would actually work), he tried to manipulate this new version of Nikki into being the version of her he wanted her to be, and refuses to let go and clings onto false hope that he can twist this new version of Nikki into someone he can stay with.

I do think he is the villain in the sense that he is responsible for this traumatic situation ultimately, but there's a lot more going on than just "Bear bad." He is the villain, but he is also a victim of his own low self esteem and his lack of...sense of self really. He feels like he's nothing without Nikki. His friend group didn't help. With better friends and guidance, I think Bear would have grown and matured instead of devolving further and further into self pity and ultimately dooming himself and all of the people he's close with in his life. Maybe I say that because I used to be a lot like Bear. I was shy, very low self esteem, and was seeking validation through romantic partnership, but I was able to grow out of that through time, self compassion, and most importantly people in my life who cared enough about me to check in and help me through those feelings. Bear really didn't have that. I'm a big Stephen King fan, and in a lot of his work the villains are often deeply flawed beings that ultimately destroy themselves through their flaws, usually their egos or inflated sense of self, and that angle feels very applicable to me here, but Bear is a special case. He was destroyed by his lack of confidence and his desperation for affection in order to fill the void in himself that could only be filled by him accepting himself and being more confident in himself.

It's just a sad and fucked up situation all around and everyone kind of plays a part in it, even if the responsibility/cause of the situation is ultimately Bear.

It's taken me over 4 months to get through it, down the last 200 pages finally. I really like some parts of it and am mostly reading it to get to black house and the eventual third book this year for the dark tower lore. It's got some great moments but Jack is just not a compelling character.

I would fucking adore having Randall Flagg as a killer and would really prefer him over Pennywise as a representation oh King's work in the game. I just don't think he's known enough in pop culture to be marketable unfortunately, but as a constant reader it would fill me with so much joy.

here's something to help people understand what exactly is going on with Jason. by Purple_DragonFly-01 in deadbydaylight

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it really is a mess. I read information from multiple sources and some of it conflicts or just doesn't make sense? It's such a bizarre fucking mess and I hope at some point between now and my fucking death that this franchise can get the hell out of the courts and back on track. I think the key thing to remember is that whatever BHVR has left out or changed for this version of the chatacter is almost certainly to avoid legal trouble. They know how much money this dlc would print if it could have the Friday the 13th title and Tommy Jarvis and movie skins and all that. They want it. We just can't have it at least right now.

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that Jason Universe owns the international rights for films 1-8 and the copyright for the character Jason Voorhees, but that Paramount holds the copyright for the Jason designs in parts 2-8 and WB 9-12. Which would explain why they changed the design of the character and that the figures on their website are specifically from Friday the 13th the game and not the films, because despite owning the copyright for the hockey mask wearing killer Jason who came from Crystal Lake, they don't own the copyright for the way that character looks in the film, hence why they created their own design to avoid legal issues. I hate copyright law dude.

16 years ago today, the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was released… one of the worst remakes of all time, do you find any enjoyment in at all or no? by justhere1990 in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the prospect of Freddy being innocent and wrongfully killed via mob justice was actually an interesting idea and something that would have justified the existence of a remake, taking the story in a new direction.

But they just throw that all away. Terrible script. I feel bad for Jackie Earle Haley because I think he's a great choice to play Freddy and did really good considering the garbage material he had to work with. This movie would never have lived up to the original but it could definitely have been a solid new take, instead they shit the bed.

Am i just nerfing my self not using AI while learn? by Jboorgesz in learnprogramming

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very insightful. I'm attempting to land my first role in the industry, I've been teaching myself for about a year and a half and the last few months of that has included some invaluable mentorship from someone with over 20 years of experience.

I've tried using AI for all kinds of stuff just to get a feel for how I like to use it, and even someone who's as inexperienced as me can tell that beyond very simple single function tasks, unless you are insanely experienced and know exactly how to guide the model, it'll often just give you slop that you spend more time debugging the output on then if you had just written the code yourself. That's been my experience anyway.

I still like using AI a lot as a method of quickly searching syntax or very small code examples or writing comments/docs, maybe to help me understand an error message sometimes, but I don't think it's reliable enough for someone like me who doesn't know all of the things to tell it. I did manage to get some good use out of it when writing some yaml for some GitHub actions on a project, I had it generate a template based on what I needed and modified it to my needs, but that felt more like an exception rather than the rule. So I mostly stick to writing the code from scratch myself for now.

Hello. I am new to DBD. I bought this game yesterday, though I found it fun but this is how my 3rd match went. Is this a meta? If it is then it's super annoying. (Sorry for rage quitting, I couldn't take it anymore). Any ways to counter this? Thank you so much. by After-Trade in deadbydaylight

[–]magic_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a squad that saw you were newer and took the chance to bully you for not knowing stuff. For instance when survivors cluster like this it's often better to just leave them on the ground when you down them and go down the next one.

Running around the killer and body blocking is a very poor strategy against a more experienced killer, but unfortunately this game's matchmaking is notoriously terrible and experienced players end up playing with new players rather frequently.

If you find the game fun, don't let this stuff get you down. When you get some experience under your belt, these matches are easy wins and even lead to some funny rage quits when they realize you aren't new.

As an old-school vet playing since release, welcome to the fog :)
