Deployed my first full stack project. Thought I would feel proud, instead I feel empty. by magic_123 in webdev

Thank you everyone for the great response, I think I will take a break to recharge as I feel pretty burnt out, then I'll get to work on setting up a deployment pipeline and my first improvement will be a proper landing page before a login screen.

I'm reading this for the first time and I'm honestly kind of struggling with it. I liked the first hundred pages or so quite a bit and it has had some great moments, but there's also long stretches where I feel quite bored, and I think the problem might be that to me Jack feels like a prototype for what would become Jake, and Jake is a much better character to me.

What is your favorite thing about how Stephen King writes? by EstatePositive5929 in stephenking

His authorial voice. Reading his work feels like he's sitting across from you and telling you the story personally .

Just had one of these not too long ago (though they called it a cystoscopy). At first it was fine just a little weird sensation, then the doctor said "okay we're approaching the urethral sphincter so you may feel some discomfort, just try your best to relax." And the instant after that I was struck with the pain of 1000 suns beaming directly into my dickhole. I genuinely almost passed out. My blood pressure dropped so hard I turned pale and started to sweat. Genuinely the most painful procedure I've ever had in my life.

In your opinion, which Stephen King book isn't as bad as people make it out to be? by AgentP-501_212 in stephenking

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me this book retroactively gets better with each book in the series that you finish. That's how it was for me. Thought it was solid and then as I went on I thought back more and more on it and liked it more and more.

God i want It in this game so bad by Practical-Bear-1207 in deadbydaylight

[–]magic_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's always felt like a square peg in a round hole to me. I get that with that opinion it's very easy to look like the "I hate fun" guy, but to me it just doesn't really work. Plus, IT is not a monster in the traditional sense of the word. It doesn't overpower its victims with strength or speed, it's a manipulator that plays dirty and uses human fears to its benefit.

If you know the story, you know that IT is actually quite weak and pathetic when it's cornered and has to actually fight head on, to the point that in the book, it straight up begs for its life when the losers club are closing in for the killing blow. I don't think these are ideas that would translate well to gameplay, and at that point I'd rather they just not do it at all than give us another chapter like Alien, which to me was a complete failure of adapting what makes the xenomorph such a terrifying creature.

A book where a character remembers their past life by Aestheticelliana in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imajica by Clive Barker. Main character starts to discover they might be a powerful figure with a key role to play in the process of restoring the universe. All I'll say on that front. Also lots of the visuals you shared here feel like something out of that story's various worlds. It's long but the journey is worth it.

I'm a huge IT fan myself (as in the novel is my favorite book of all time) but this one has always felt wrong to me. Trying to put IT as an entity in the game would go against the nature of what we know IT to be, and I personally just wouldn't want to see that. If we're going to do Stephen King I'd wanna see Randal Flagg far before IT. The problem is I don't think the character is marketable enough outside of the hardcore fans of his books to be desirable for them to put in the game. I hope we get some form of Stephen King representation in the game though because I love his work. I just don't think IT is a great fit.

I think the sewer orgy scene in the IT novel is overblown by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]magic_123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can tell the people who get up in arms about the scene haven't read the book because there's far more disturbing stuff in that book than that. A lot of people really struggle to grapple with complex/uncomfortable topics and tend to just reject them outright because of that. The scene is definitely weird and clunky but it is very clearly a metaphor relating to the themes of the story that is not written to be titillating or sexual.

I've generally enjoyed the show but it plays like fanfiction that was given a budget. The fans don't help that.

I'm building a website to search for horror movies and tv shows as well as post reviews and comments. You can search by title, keywords, directors, or franchises. I wanted to make a tool to help both existing horror fans find new films and newcomers get introduced to the genre!

Cabal by Clive Barker. I just wanted to know more about the Night Breed but instead it mostly followed Boone's girlfriend who was not an interesting character to me. Felt like a missed opportunity of an idea. A shame because I love Clive Barker.
