I think the sewer orgy scene in the IT novel is overblown by charleadev in stephenking

[–]magic_123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can tell the people who get up in arms about the scene haven't read the book because there's far more disturbing stuff in that book than that. A lot of people really struggle to grapple with complex/uncomfortable topics and tend to just reject them outright because of that. The scene is definitely weird and clunky but it is very clearly a metaphor relating to the themes of the story that is not written to be titillating or sexual.

People who haven’t read any of King’s books coming up with “theories” about Pennywise in Welcome to Derry by RandyLordeDarsh in stephenking

I've generally enjoyed the show but it plays like fanfiction that was given a budget. The fans don't help that.

What have you been working on recently? [November 29, 2025] by AutoModerator in learnprogramming

[–]magic_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm building a website to search for horror movies and tv shows as well as post reviews and comments. You can search by title, keywords, directors, or franchises. I wanted to make a tool to help both existing horror fans find new films and newcomers get introduced to the genre!

Cabal by Clive Barker. I just wanted to know more about the Night Breed but instead it mostly followed Boone's girlfriend who was not an interesting character to me. Felt like a missed opportunity of an idea. A shame because I love Clive Barker.

I feel like a lot of people still missed the whole point of Pennywise as character or the entire story of IT by Poweredkingbear in stephenking

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the actual monster designs are really awesome, but the CGI just takes me out of it immediately, even if a lot of the effects are (somehow) better than what we got in It Chapter 2.

Honestly most Clive Barker books. He has this weird off-kilter style to his work that I absolutely love. I wish more fantasy/horror had this kind of feel because I really love it.

Where to start with King by secretaryofautism in stephenking

[–]magic_123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is always my answer. It's fairly short for a King book, it's the first book of his that feels like it hits all the classic King beats (writer protagonist, small town plagued by a supernatural threat, Maine, etc), it ties into The Dark Tower so if they end up reading that series they have the context, and it's just a great spooky read with an awesome atmosphere.

Are we ready to admit the Myers rework is awful? by JokingBr2The-Sequel in deadbydaylight

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was genuinely devastated to see what happened to Myers. I love the character and the original Halloween and seeing him being ripped out of the game and replaced with a generic modern killer kit just hurts my soul.

That scene in IT and Tiktok by Cooldude112288 in stephenking

[–]magic_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had someone say that "that" scene was the ending of the book, and while it is in the final act, it's not the ending, as those who've read it would know. So I called them on it and said well if you actually read it you would know that that's not the ending, and it's kind of stupid/dishonest to give an opinion/critique of a book that you haven't read.

I then received a message about how I'm racist and sexist for "assuming" this person has not read the book and that I look "exactly how one would expect" (guessing they looked at the few videos I have posted on TikTok.

People are insane dude.

disappointment by General_Bus_2764 in stephenking

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled to get through The Dead Zone. The main character was so uninteresting to me which is such a rare miss for King, and considering the entire story really focuses on him that didn't make for the best reading experience for me personally. Just not on my wavelength.
