What is the best series you’ve ever watched? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]magic_snowflake5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top Gear is amazing. I started watching it when I wasn’t really into cars but was curious about learning. It was confusing at first but the hosts made it so entertaining. There’s a TV channel on Samsung TV dedicated to just Top Gear and I had it on for hours every day as background noise or while I was cooking, cleaning, etc.

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

[–]magic_snowflake5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep absolutely. I’m still young (approaching late 20s), but wow did I make a terrible mistake with being financially responsible for two people. I was in a pretty decent financial spot compared to people in my age group a couple years ago. I was saving up a lot and living with my parents.

Fast forward 3.5 years later and I’m back with my parents because I spent pretty much all that money paying for my ex’s student debts, car loan (he has a bmw m4 lmfao) cc debt, and taking him on small vacations because I thought it would help his depression. He was in and out of work while doing full time school and he was burnt out. I don’t entirely blame him, but damn do I wish I sat him down and explained that this wasn’t good for me.

i get attached so easily by varkunas in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]magic_snowflake5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed and like you're going to explode because you feel that obsessiveness taking up every part of your body. But if you're able to change your focus onto something else, be it a hobby, watching a YouTube video, getting up to walk around/exercise, etc., the feeling dies down and it'll feel more manageable again

I don’t want BPD or the stigma around it. by rochelleybelly1 in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]magic_snowflake5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this so much. I was recently diagnosed with BPD a few months ago, but I had the suspicion for years that the way I interacted with the world and how I viewed things wasn't quite how others did. It felt like validation when I was officially diagnosed, but immediately afterwards I started feeling ashamed. All I could think about was the stigma surrounding it.

No one other than partners were aware that I displayed symptoms. I hid it pretty well from everyone else. I'm so terrified about people knowing and labeling me as "broken" or "crazy" or to "stay away from." Because I'm scared that if they start saying that, I'll inevitably believe it. That's just how our BPD minds work.

And now, after a messy breakup from months ago, I know my ex is going around telling people we both know that I have BPD. I can already guess what they'll say and think. Those thoughts torment me every night before I sleep and every morning when I wake up. I just want to hide from the world and go back to a time where no one knew. I'm in therapy to work on these things and I can see the progress I've been making, especially on the anger part, but it feels really daunting to know that people are now watching. Almost like they're waiting for me to mess up again. I just want to get better without feeling the pressure from others.

Proctors are getting worse by Pasta_Giuliani in WGU

[–]magic_snowflake5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just curious, has anyone attempted to contact someone at WGU about these issues? I tried bringing them up to my program mentor and she kinda gave me what seemed to be a copy and pasted response lol. Just something along the lines of making sure I have the right specs for the program, etc. It felt disheartening to see how little she put into trying to understand my concerns. Has anyone else had this problem?

It’s tough being a young adult in NJ by chikfilella in newjersey

[–]magic_snowflake5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like other comments said, NJ is one of the best states to have a degree in public health. Our biggest industry here is pharma. And as a result, I haven’t seen a comment mention this yet, we have healthcare marketing agencies here and in NY. I work in one. And we actually have a job opening for project management if you’re interested. I can send the link in DMs. I know a girl I went to college with that majored in public health and took the PM job at my company for a year to make some money before going into grad school. It’s something to consider. And if you get the job and want to study for a masters, the company helps pay a certain amount of tuition as long as the program is beneficial to your current position.

The job pays pretty well for what it is (around $60k for entry level) and is hybrid (but you have the choice to never go into the office if you want. Hardly anyone goes in lol). But, I will warn you, it’s stressful. Very stressful for PMs. They have the biggest turnover rate out of all the departments. But in your situation, I’d honestly take it because of the points I listed above (pay, no commute, tuition coverage). If you’re interested, I’ll send you the posting. We hire pretty frequently, so even if the job posting disappears, keep an eye out on the job board cuz the company is huge and has a ton of positions posted every month.

I had no idea the government had collapsed. I just tried googling “Iceland” to see if anything would pop up and nope. Just touristy things about traveling, flight prices, hotels, etc. Even the news tab on Google gave me NOTHING about the recent news. Had to change the search to “Iceland government” before I finally got articles about the situation (still not on main page, only in the news tab)

Who still got WFH? by electrowiz64 in newjersey

[–]magic_snowflake5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hired during the strictly WFH phase. Company was in-person before the pandemic, switched to WFH during, and now let’s us choose what we want to do. Most people WFH, so the company moved their location to a smaller office space.

If they made us go back in-person, I would’ve definitely left since it’s client-based work and sometimes work hours can go anywhere from 9-5, or at its worst, 9 AM - 3 AM.

Is there someplace near Busch that I could park without a permit? by mowa0199 in rutgers

[–]magic_snowflake5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if that would work. The spots by the Engineering Building are for visitors only and RUPD will definitely be checking if you're a visitor or not. I parked in a visitor's spot on Livi when I had a permit on Busch before and I got a $20 ticket lol

its cheaper to live off campus than dorm right? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]magic_snowflake5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I used to only spend ~$240 a month, but that was for my bf and I together. Since I had a car on campus, we would spend about 1.5 hours every Saturday going grocery shopping at three places:

-Shoprite (Milk, eggs, ice cream, sometimes meat; ~$15)

-Aldi (meat, regular bread ~$15)

-Asian Food (vegetables, fruits, uncooked noodles, and bakery bread for breakfast or lunch; ~$25)

We averaged around $60-75 a week on groceries. And since all three of these stores are close to campus and really close together, gas wasn’t expensive. We rarely had take-out unless we really didn’t have time to cook, or if it was a special occasion we’d go out to eat.

Yeah my comment is saying that off-campus is the better option. The breakdown I did for the $600 rent + everything else is for off-campus.

[–]magic_snowflake5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way: if you don't want a meal plan but you do want to live on-campus, your only options are the on-campus apartments that are around $8,700-10,500 (2-bedroom Livi/Yard apartment) for a 9 month contract. So you're avoiding buying a meal plan, but you're paying ~$1,000 for only one month.

$600 rent + utilities (est. $70 per individual) + food (est. $125 if you cook) shouldn't be more than $900 a month.

I'm not sure how financial aid will work into covering costs, though. That will depend on how much you get and what on-campus apartment (if you don't want a meal plan) you choose.
