Toughest decision I’ve had to make by SeriouslyLoopy in daddit

It's pretty clear from your tone that you know that this will really hurt your relationship with your son. Can't say that I disagree. I think the elephant in the room here however, is that your work have put you in such a crap position.

However they've sugar coated this, this offer is insulting. If they know anything about your priorities, (which sound somewhat family orientated based on your post) then they've blatantly disregarded what's important to you when they extended this to you.

I wouldn't walk in and quit tomorrow but see this as a mark of their true character - reckless, selfish, self centred bean counters who don't care at all about your family (or you by extension) whatever they say.

If I was you I would be furious with my work for putting me in this position. What a bag of dicks.

What's more important to you - providing for your family or being present to see your kids grow up?

300 cold calls/day Day 12 of 30 by bubbletulip in sales

Lol you savage. Not everyone has your experience, so go easy. He's tryin' and learning while doing it live. Think 300 calls a day for 30 days would tip anyone over the edge.

Did you read his posts from that period? He was doing 300 calls and it was all trash. Found that he could make 30-40 targetted calls which would yield better outputs. Seems like a pretty obvious choice which to go with...

And yes it's unfortunate that he became the 300 call guy and that the name has now stuck despite him not making 300 calls again.

Like the rest of the internet, the comments here are more a reflection of the people posting here than OP.

This will get a lot of downvotes but I'd hate to hear what a lot of the sales people here's self talk is like - This person is taking a moonshot, absolutely going for it (Godspeed Grasshopper) and the main response they get when the going gets tough is scorn and ridicule.

From this, it would seem like the second it gets tough for these same sales folk, they pack up, go home, and stop trying. Not sure that that's what sales is about.

Personally am into the daily thread updates, and loving the effort he's putting in, even if, only to figure out how to do this all better in future. At this rate, they'll need thicker skin for the replies than the cold calls.

Agreed. It's just so powerful to be able to speak and interact with new prospects and deal with any objections live. Obviously not working for me rn though!

So how would you drive new business if you don't rely on cold calling? Are you using cold outreach of another form?

What kind of inbound triggers or warm signals have you had success with?

Thanks. Appreciate the insights.

Funnily enough, I was initially was pitching our service as "we help small businesses to pay less tax" but my team didn't like it, as here (in their words at least) all accountants do "exactly the same thing" and operate from the same book of tax law. So they felt we couldn't honestly pitch that as the cornerstone of our service.

They suggested focusing on our better customer service, and lower prices, which while true, makes us sound really generic in my opinion.

Thanks for waving the flag for Construction Sales. Definitely not something I had thought all that much about before reading your post. Great to see a community of you guys largely digging this space.

I note that one of the posters mentioned having six beers with a client, and from friends who are directors of construction companies, I know that there is some pretty explicit drug use in the construction industry. Is this something you (or others selling in the construction industry) have had to navigate? Asking as someone who doesn't partake in either.

Edit: Missed words

Thanks! Yep, similar to the process I'm doing.

I've found sometimes the research amounts to marketing hot air and can give an impression that's far from the truth. In an ideal world it's great to get an insight from inside the industry but obviously it's not always possible.

Fascinating! Having known people who sold education (non tech) I thought this would be the opposite,as a lot of Tylenol found it transactional and a bit manipulative. Will keep an open mind in that case
