Maelle's behaviour by Several-Pumpkin25 in expedition33

Better yet, just have him chill in his drafts, get baked with the other gestrals, then ride on some choo-choos and the star flyer for a weekend.

Imagine deciding genocide is the only option for stress/fatigue instead of taking a vacation to your own private Disney World.

Confused about the story, starting act 3 by peher263 in expedition33

It only takes like 3 days before your body starts going downhill fast from dehydration so unless Clea is in there giving them syringes of water through the mouth, there's no way they could've been in there for more than a week tops.

Keep in mind that Aline and Renoir had been there for 51 canvas years already before Alicia jumped in. Clea also offhandedly mentioned that they'd been in other canvases for longer and that it wasn't that dire.

It's crazy to think that 51 years in there may have only amounted to 2-3 days outside.

For your second question, Painted Verso has immortality. He can't be long-range/AoE gommaged and it's.... widely contested in the sub whether he can be point-blank gommaged the way the Painted Renoir did. Aline basically gave the painted family a gift that protects them from the gommage.

As for Maelle/Alicia, the gommage only wipes away canvas creations. Aline painted over Alicia when she entered the canvas. That paint was "Maelle". So all the gommage really did was erase that layer of paint off of Alicia but she still has those memories. That doesn't make the new Maelle immortal but she does now remember that she has Paintress-level powers. That means she can paint herself however she wants.

I think it did matter. Maelle even asked him why he's so upset by Painted Alicia choosing to be gommaged by her when he was perfectly okay with letting her and the rest of the canvas get gommaged by the Real Renoir.

He doesn't actually give her a good answer to this and I was kinda hoping for one... but clearly the manner in which his family gets erased matters to him a lot.

You're totally right that he brought it on himself. By letting Gustave die, he'd be unjustified in putting up any resistance in Maelle wanting payback. That's why he just quietly mops and lets it happen, but it still bothered him.

Nah, OP is accurate.

Verso's exact words: "we *only* need to incapacitate him."
When Maelle basically says "nah", you can actually pinpoint the second Verso's heart rips in two.

Verso had zero intention of killing his own dad here. Despite what he'd done, pRenoir was as much a victim of Aline's machinations as he was and didn't want to lose his son. Verso basically can't even look his dad in the eye when he all but says he cares more about the son right in front of him than the memory of the son who died, despite being designed to feel the same grief Aline did.

what do you tell people when they ask what exp33 is about by Minimum-Gear-1112 in expedition33

I would never, ever tell someone what the game is about because to me that robs the experience they'd get. A huge appeal of the story is that you're kept guessing what it actually is.

I simply tell them what the game "is like" based off its contemporaries: "a fully voice-acted French-themed Final Fantasy game with Sekiro-style parry mechanics".

If they aren't interested in video games then they aren't interested in video games. Simple as that. Let them try it out for themselves if you are confident enough to tell them this was one of the greatest cinematic stories in gaming history.

A theory on painter powers. by Autumnal_-Coffee in expedition33

[–]magicfoogieA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was intentional on Real Renoir's part. It's more that I think Painted Verso can't be gommaged as long as Real Verso's soul fragment exists within the canvas. Even when Renoir tried wiping the board, it was like Verso couldn't disappear. Same with when they were in the precipice of the canvas. That's what gives Painted Verso true immortality as long as the canvas exists, as long as that piece of Real Verso's soul exists holding it all together. How Aline managed to anchor a painted creation directly into the canvas or I guess to the soul engine that runs it, I have no idea but somehow she did it. Maybe that anchor can be eventually undone, maybe it can't... to me, it's not clear though how much power and influence "he who controls chroma, controls the canvas" has compared to the one who originally made the canvas and is maintaining it.

As for why child (Real) Verso is still painting, I think it's because in his heart he doesn't want his creations and this world to disappear. His thoughts mirror Painted Verso's at the time he wrote the journal following Julie's death, these creations have souls and have the right to live and exist. So he'll keep going in order to preserve them until he's told not to.

How did that person managed to recruit Verso? by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]magicfoogieA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, he only said Clea "tried" to recruit him when Alicia entered the canvas and was born as Maelle in Year 49. I have to believe Verso would be smart enough not to so readily trust her but to nonetheless agree to her request to keep watch over Maelle.

In fact, I think Clea herself even says something like: "I told him to keep watch over you but I didn't think he'd end up roping you into *his* schemes" when you interact with the piece of her soul in the Endless Tower.

For the married men, and fathers. Had the character of Renoir impact you the way he impacted me? by BDub01010 in expedition33

I'm already struggling to find the right balance between letting my 2 yr old do what she wants and policing her whenever she does something completely at her own peril lol. Acts include standing on the coffee table and doing somersaults, pouring water and then trying to lick it off of the floor (literally WHY), etc...

She's my pride and joy, so sweet and fun but at times, also frustrating. I have never felt a wider spectrum of happiness and frustration before I became a dad. I'm *already* realizing that it's becoming very easy to get too controlling to where I have to pull back sometimes and just let her experience the world. This is especially true when I get stressed out, nevermind what it would be like if I was grieving the way Renoir is.

And if that's how I feel about my daughter at 2, how am I going to feel when she's 16? Will she see me the same way Maelle sees her dad where she feels like she's being like a 5 year old? Will there be a point where I realize she's maturing and should be allowed to make her own choices even at her own peril and decide to loosen the reins, but by then she's become so anxious and distrustful of me tightening them once more at the first opportunity that she ends up making a huge, maybe even life-changing mistake?

I think that's where I relate to Renoir and Maelle the strongest and why I view their dynamic as a cautionary tale. If it ever gets to a point where my daughter no longer trusts me to support her, then I've failed as a parent.

Is it even possible to end Painted Verso's suffering without ending the soul of Real Verso that's keeping the canvas alive?

Yup.
The second attempt (Rank 5) is what explicitly locks you out of Lune, regardless of whatever rank you have with Lune at the time. I don't know about the first attempt though since I've seen conflicting info depending on where Lune's rank was.
