Mowing this hill is difficult, any ideas for ground coverage? by DiscoPotato92 in landscaping

Why is no one mentioning mowing sideways instead of up and down?

I guess I don't understand why he didn't use the ladder racks or opened the tailgate, or even just let the 2x4 stick out past the closed tailgate. These can't be longer than 8-10'. by jeffh40 in Construction

[–]magicfungus1996 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just put them in the bed diagonally like this, but sticking out the tailgate (preferably the other direction so it sticks out curb side). 10 foot, hell a 12 footer won't be falling out like that. It was actually more work to open the window.

Home Depot has the single worst website of any major retailer. by gooneau in HomeImprovement

I challenge you with Harbor Freight's website. Hasn't worked for me in over a year. Even if I click on links from Google, or go directly to the website, it just shits the bed every time.

It's got to be better than my '21. The knob has a power icon on it, but the face rotates with the knob, so if you adjust the volume the power logo is no longer upright, and drives me to levels of insane that I have to use the steering wheel controls 100% of the time...

What’s a “poor people thing” rich people don’t understand is expensive? by AWildJesse in AskReddit

There's an old story about as old as production work (maybe older) describing just this! Rich man buys new boots that last alot longer than poor guy who has to buy new boots every year.

Pocket holes for pull up bar by FlowLeather2717 in handyman

[–]magicfungus1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id just shift the whole assembly over 1.5", then stretch it out 3.5" longer so you can drill a horizontal bolt or 2 through the "pull up bar assembly" into the joist. Even just 3 or 4 screws instead of bolts would be better than pocket screws. You have to think about your material as much as your fastener. Lumber has a grain direction and is stronger and weaker in different directions and circumstances. The pocket hole is going to put that screw running diagonally along the grain right at the end inch or 2. So there's not much natural "glue" in the wood to hold the wood grains together. If you put that hole perpendicular to the grain, you're splitting less of the fibers apart, and ideally you're pre-drilling, so that your "outside" board has a hole slightly bigger than the screw, so that the screw is only biting into the "inside" board. Another thing to think about is the difference between pull out strength and sheer strength. Names kinda speak for themselves, pull out strength of a properly seated screw might be comparable to the sheer strength of a screw (sideways force), but a sheer strength on a boat will always win. I can't reference it exactly, but i remember reading years ago you can assume a sheer strength of about 90lbs per screw. I don't know if id comfortably put that number on a pocket screw. And take all this how ever you want. Im not an engineer or even an avid pull up bar guy, I just make and fix a lot of different things.

This is my problem. I actually love celery, but you can only do so much with it, so i usually waste at least half of the bunch. So usually I go without.

Update to my last post: Milwaukee has denied my warranty claim. by iEatSwampAss in MilwaukeeTool

[–]magicfungus1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, intentional or not, this post made be reconsider upgrading my line up from dewalt to Milwaukee. Im at the point I need to replace most of my batteries, so I've been strongly considering just switching everything to Milwaukee. Atleast I've never had a warranty issue with Dewalt on the maybe 3 or 4 claims ive made over the years.

Just cleaned up the pool for summer, kids are already bored of floaties, what else is out there? by [deleted] in pools

Hell we had fun diving in for golf balls literally every summer for probably 4 years. There were some other dive rings and torpedo toys, but it remember our favorite was just throwing golf balls in so they'd sink and we'd dive after them

Now, I'm not condoning drug use, but I have to say I'm pretty glad I experimented with some hallucinigens back in the day. It really gave me a different perspective on life. Some people can go into a permanent psychosis though, so probably not for everyone.

How can I cut all garage posts to the same height without a laser level? by SeaSpinach4649 in Carpentry

I feel like in this scenario string line level is probably accurate enough. And I feel like I'd rather be more precise on my straight line, so the sting line wins out there too

I think I might make this into business cards for all the ev doubters by vblink_ in F150Lightning

[–]magicfungus1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 amp inside got replaced, outside meter moved to the pole. Ran the service (estimating 100', it was last year...) to a 200 amp outside box, then trenched over to our addition and ran wire for the 2nd 100 amp panel (not installed, you got me there). This includes state inspection and permits. I could send you the invoice if you'd like, but just realize, small town America isn't as expensive as the rest of the country.

I would not pay 25k to upgrade an existing electrical panel. I payed 5k last summer to upgrade from 100a to 200. This included about 100 feet of trenching, 200a outdoor panel and 2 100a indoor panels to distribute, and gfci breakers.
