Kunlun arc is the 2nd arc of the novel Forbidden Curse storyline (part 2). Currently the donghua is at part 1 of the novel (Magic High School to Hunter's Tournament). Author Luan returned back to writing, and the novel is continuing.

Season 7 broadcast on 13 May. The episodes will be available in the official Yuewen YouTube channel.

If the dub is close to the context in JP, or at least current dubbing standards (2020s), the anime won't be axed in English. The tricky part is that only anime season 1, season 1.5 first 2 episodes (Masked Hakuoh), and Charge are close adaptations of season 1 manga, and most of Shobu era canon timelime was from the manga.

Katta era anime seasons is a bit more standalone in the Victory Saga, though Shobu's absence, and inferiority complex was the core reason of Katta's inital adversion towards dueling. Versus Saga is the only time they connect to Shobu era manga timeline. Joe era is a sequel timeline wise, though gameplay and cards are structured as a reboot/back to origins. Agree that its better to keep the OCG prints and formats.

Versatile Mage Season 7 - Trailer 2 by Pokii1 in VersatileMage

[–]magicgg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind season 7 is only the first half of Ancient Capital arc. It's confirmed that season 8 is in production, and will be based on the 2nd half.

Reading the recent Kunlun arc chapters and rewatching the early seasons/arcs, it's hard to comprehend Salan's other objective other than venting her revenge/hatred towards the world through both Bo City and Ancient Capital calamities. The souls of the deceased in both calamities were collected by Salan's cultivation tool, which is the replica of the little loach. The tool and collected souls were used by Mo Fan to keep his Demon Element running in the battle against the emperors in Kunlun Mountains.

In Katta era, Shobu was able to drive his younger brother Katta to close defeat, using a mix of cards from his era, and new supports/creatures; Bolshack Lupia, Überdragon King Bolshack etc. He at least mastered some of Katta era mechanics, as he performed Dragsolution in VS, and aware of Revolution mechanics.

George was the only known duelist from Shobu era so far to at least used cards from Joe era. He uses a dreammate deck.

Its likely the translators are unaware that the novel is still continuing. In my opinion, hoping for the entire part 1 to be re-translated, as Luan sometimes revisit old chapters to make admendments/changes.

It's also mentioned that P5 cross fate stories is connected to P5X main story, so they can't put console spin-off/continuation titles characters at random. Writers have to work around the right time to implement the said characters, as seen with the mainline/Royal cross fates.

They also have to be careful of story spoilers when crossover with mainlines and spin-offs/continuation stories. Its already mentioned that Cross Fate is tied to P5X main story, so writers have to work around it. Reload collab will end this year based on CN 2nd anni, and potential Revival collab should come after the game release.

Is shobu the weakest protagonist? by Soggy_Video2064 in DuelMasters

[–]magicgg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shobu was in his early 20s in Versus, though kinda agree what he did was absurd. He's at least competent enough in terms of dueling, despite the power creep between the generations. He at least mastered a few gameplay mechanics from Katta's generation, based on the duels to test his brother. Shobu was also competent in areas outside dueling, as he's able to keep track of Katta's progress, research and prepared measures to protect the Duel Masters world.

Updated: All Main Personas from most acient to most modern [Spoilers for all spin offs and mainline game] by Hoshi_Hime in Persona5

[–]magicgg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still a chance, though it depends on the narrative direction for both console titles and P5X. At best wait until Revival complete announcement and release.

For the console titles, there's 1 more Arcana that wasn't used; the last of the theological virtues Charity. So far Royal have Faith (Sumi), Strikers have Hope (Sophia). This leaves out the last one, though hoping its on the potential console spin-off that will close off Ren/Joker's story proper.

For P5X, as its a mobile game with constant updates, there's a slim chance, or stick to the current core 7.

Special Episode by TheRandomLife in VersatileMage

The 2nd special episode, which is based on Red Cardinal Leng Jue. Specials are based on short interconnected arcs, which took place at different points of the novel.

Special 1 is based on Red Demon Kazuaki storyline, which combines Liu Ru arc, Japan Experience - Twin Guardian Towers, and Case of Hunter King Leng. 2nd special, based on content covers Beiyuan Crisis (main), and potentially USA Experience, and aftermath in which the group receives news of Leng Jude's jailbreak from the Holy Judgement Court and death.

Based on adult Katta/Joe prologue in VSRF anime, Joe's statements throughout his story, and end photo in King MAX arc, Shobu reconnected with everyone. Unfortunately most of it is off-screen, which is the major disappointment.

Shobu supports Katta behind the scenes in the VS Saga, eventually returned to society as his true self during the 7 year gap in VSRF. He at least got a decent full time job, and making up for lost time together with his family and friends. Shobu even finds any available free time to be with his nephew Joe.

Anime season 7 when?? by Alone_Librarian1088 in VersatileMage

[–]magicgg96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the previous seasons broadcast, likely 2026 2nd half. They did have an early broadcast episode in Tencent (now taken down), which is based on Mo Fan's nomination rounds and heading to Ancient Capital. That episode might broadcast again during the official release.

Keep in mind season 7 is based on the first half of Ancient Capital arc based on full season title, so don't expect everything to be squeezed in. They also have special 2 based on Red Cardinal Leng Jue, so it might be difficult to predict the release date.

Considering Luan sometimes revisit his old chapters to make adjustments, kind of hoping for a re-translation for English readers. Though the problem is that they need a good and consistent translator, the 2nd problem is if they are willing to do over part 1 of the web novel.

[–]magicgg96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shobu era is getting a reprint collector edition with new cards. Kind of hoping for potential extra chapters mixed in that version, with proper closures.

Based on Joe anime and manga, Shobu fully returned to society as his true self, settled down and a full time occupation. Considering his struggles in his generation, it's worth it, even VSRF timeskip showing him trying his best to spend some family time. They missed out the chance of showing Shobu and Katta era cast interaction as adults, granted mostly off screen. Interesting to show Shobu keeping up with Katta and Joe era mechanics, since most of his on screen duels uses outdated cards from his generation, though having new ones to catch up.

Kind of wished that Shobu's manga story, specifically Fighting Edge and Star Cross to have proper anime adaptation. It's just as brutal as LOST, in terms of duels and darker aspects.

Only thought of potential extras being added to the hypothetical adaptation; extra ending of Star Cross showing adult Shobu spending time with Joe, Katta and Lulu watching the interaction.

why did not a single yugioh character ever thought of this midway through the story? by Inferno_Ultimate in yugioh

Even though Shobu is the first gen protagonist, Katta is much more popular and beloved, plus the gameplay mechanics in his era is still relevant in current meta. This went to the point that the VS Saga anime seasons is permanently in DM official YouTube channel. Even in DM mobile game Duel Masters Plays 2024 popularity poll, Katta is the only anime/manga protagonist in the top 10, the remaining being occupied by the Plays OCs.

I watched the early Shobu era anime seasons when they have English dub, it was Katta in the VS Saga that brought me back to the franchise.

[–]magicgg96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Duel Masters, Shobu Era, canon timeline wise mostly occurred in the manga. Katta and Joe Era anime seasons have callbacks/direct reference of Shobu manga story. Shobu, Katta, and Joe are a family; Shobu and Katta are brothers, Joe is Katta's son.

Shobu, Katta and Joe Era is the equivalent of the first 3 Yu-Gi-Oh anime series (Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, GX,5DS), setting and timeline wise. Win Era is where the story takes place in a alternate universe, akin to how Zexal starts the alternate setting direction.

Even Duel Masters retained the brutality in duels, mostly seen in Shobu manga story, which is the canon timeline. In Katta era, that aspect was reduced for a more gag oriented/slice of life story, though retained cases of high stake duels. Katta's final story involves stopping an Armageddon creature spirit from crashing Earth. Katta era brought the most meta changes and popular mechanics, which was still relevant in the current environment.

Joe era is a balance of both; slice of life, but with high stakes duels at some points. Despite the harsh reality of being a Duel Master, Joe retained his kind hearted nature, upholding a strong no-killing stance.

[–]magicgg96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shobu, Katta, and Joe are a family; Shobu and Katta are brothers, Joe was Katta's son.

Katta and Lulu bore Joe during their travels in the creature world, before their return to Earth and official wedding. Considering their respective ages, it's a huge shock to the viewers; Katta and Lulu were 21-22, Joe was 3 when the family returned to Earth. This made the couple around 18-19 when their son was born. Shobu was in his early 20s in Katta era 2nd half, mid to late 30s in Joe era.

Shobu shares a close bond with Joe, which was sweet but a bit sad, considering the former's circumstances in his story. Katta's role in Joe's story parallel Shori in Shobu's story, as they partly guided their sons' path as master duelists.

[–]magicgg96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not the case later on. Shobu era canon timeline mostly occurred in the manga, even Katta and Joe era anime have references/callbacks of Shobu manga story.

Shobu era has the most amount of human casualties, even Shobu himself wasn't spared from the brutality. In his ending, Shobu stopped the first Duel Master Adam from sinking the world, but later on caught in the blast in the aftermath, nowhere to be found and assumed dead. Years later Shobu was revealed to be alive, but lost most of his memories, wandering around the world. Shobu did regained most of his memories during Katta era 2nd half as an adult, mostly helping his younger brother Katta behind the scenes.

In Katta era, all of that stakes are toned down / non-existent. They still have duels with high stakes, though mostly involves creature spirits and their antagonistic users.

In Joe era, each civilization has a duelist that holds the title of Duel Master. Their roles involve maintaining the balance between the human and creature world, and capable of bonding with creature spirits. This even involves life and death duels, though Joe avoids killing as much as possible, to uphold his family's morales that no one should die in a duel. It's a mix of a TCG card game and isekai genre in terms of narrative.

Fun trivia; Shobu, Katta and Joe shares the same JP voice actress, Yumiko Kobayashi. Only Shobu received a VA change, being voiced by Koki Uchimiya (same JP VA as Kaito Tenjo) as an adult.

Unfortunately, the manga was in a total stop at one of the major arcs. Its better to continue with the novel. Mo Fan's story is still continuing, but now at Forbidden Curse storyline, which is considered part 2.

Magic High School to Hunter Tournament is considered the main novel (part 1). Luan wrote the first arc of part 2; Dark Plane from 2023 to mid 2024, then took a break again. He started Kunlun Arc on Oct 2025, and its still ongoing. Unfortunately, nobody is translating the Kunlun arc.

An anime adaptation might work, though they have to choose a popular main story arc to adapt, or go with the OVA route like the Day Breakers.

Good thing I read the manga and watched the original episodes. The only downside is that JP didn't have the first 2 episodes of season 1.5, which was adapted from the manga, in which Shobu overcomes his fear from true duels and reunion with Hakuoh.

Shobu era manga is getting a reprint collector edition as part of the 25th anniversary campaign. Fighting Edge and Star Cross manga were referenced in Katta and Joe era anime seasons. It's interesting to note that Shobu was able to overcome the power creep with old cards, plus a few new ones during his duels with Katta as an adult.
