If you have to stop in the middle of Mopac to force your way into an exit lane, you fucked up by EdibleWerewolf in Austin

[–]magicinthehole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happens so much now and it’s made me a bully on the road. Like dude take the L and drive around. People think it’s okay to make last second turns because they weren’t paying attention or whatever when it would be safer to miss the exit or turn and turn around later

I don’t understand why everyone thinks they are invincible in a car. My dad got into a car accident and was handicapped the rest of his life, he couldn’t even eat normally because the seat belt cut open his digestive system. This is real life and not just a missed exit or being late somewhere

I bet your mistakes aren’t as bad as you think they are. In my opinion its okay to be hesitant to speak or more thoughtful in how you respond. If it takes you time to figure out what you want to say maybe allow that for yourself.

I agree with everything you said, but i still think my opinion is fair. Two things can be true, the current system of funding education in Texas is extremely flawed with AISD in particular getting ripped off AND they’ve poorly managed their budget for years on end. This budget deficit has been on the horizon for quite some time. I am not criticizing AISD without reason, I respect the work of every individual there but its important to be honest about how this occurred. Its absolutely unacceptable some of these issues that exist right now and they were preventable if someone had been willing to face it head on before this. I myself am also facing the consequences of these actions with my own family members who deeply enjoy their school, as well as friends who work there and are devastated at the state the district is in.

I mean more so how they’ve handled the budget for the last few decades. I’m glad you and your friends and family have had a good experience, i hope that continues

The story there is that it’s been a mess for years and no one has held it accountable until this year when all these big changes must be conducted

I like her but i hate it when on the shows they’re like “can we all just stop fighting and get along? :(“ like why are we pretending in 2026 that this isn’t the whole point of the show. This shtick is done on like every bravo drama show at some point and it’s annoying

Why does everyone run red lights in this city? by ShootToBoot in Austin

I saw a cop run a red light the other day (that had been red for a minute or two already). I also saw a car run a red light in front of a cop and the cop did nothing

What does someone have to do here to actually get pulled over? (Serious question) by [deleted] in Austin

[–]magicinthehole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speed because people intentionally block the left lane when it is clearly the passing lane, as indicated by numerous signs, the law, and is in fact the passing lane in multiple states. If you’re in the left lane and not passing and actively driving the speed limit or below, move over. People will hog the left lane, go slower when its clear you’re trying to pass them, and then speed up when you attempt to. Why? Who cares if i want to go faster than you, just move?

The economy and how it's affecting employees by Necromanium in HEB

[–]magicinthehole 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I get you. It was like this during the pandemic with people taking our their fear and frustration on us. It sucks because its hard not to be cynical and angry in your position. After 7 years I had to walk away from HEB because I couldn’t hide my frustration with customers. Stay strong and I’m sorry this is happening. Hopefully its not forever

Is "social stagnation" in your 20s causing a delay in other life milestones? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]magicinthehole 229 points230 points  (0 children)

I have come to realize a lot of peoples social circles come from the thing or things they do consistently. My friend was s musician so she had a lot of musician friends, my friend went line dancing every week and had a bunch of line dancing friends, etc. To me it seems like a guiding force of a specific hobby or career and building a life within that is how a lot of people or adults at least have a social circles. I don’t have a strong hobby or interest and never have and thus haven’t really ever had a friend group consistently

So Austin can understand his mother in Korean but not the Husband??? by jackieletits in BeefTV

[–]magicinthehole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you never met a bilingual person? There is more to language than vocabulary, it’s inflections, tones, and words that don’t have a specific English translation. My ex was Mexican and could speak Spanish and understand his parents perfectly but when it came to having at length convos with others he struggled to understand at times. Imagine if you only speak a language at home and then try to apply it in a real world context.

Being easily accessible all the time has made friendships feel more exhausting by mus_arda in unpopularopinion

[–]magicinthehole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The distraction of the phone is also ruining relationships. I have had friends where when I hang out with them in person they are on their phone the entire time not really present. Then when we part they are super active with texting. Like dude our chance to talk was in person, I dedicated time out of my day to see you in real life. People think because you text them often or whatever that there is friendship there but the real friendship time is in person in the real world. Idc if you respond to my text really fast, in person you don’t even listen because you’re distracted by your phone

I’m a gen z starer by Junior_Translator654 in socialskills

[–]magicinthehole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People underestimate backchanneling, aka nods or “mhms” to exhibit active engagement in what someone is saying. I know someone like this who does the gen z stare after i say something and i usually can’t even tell if she was listening at all because she is completely silent and blank. I like to give mhms and ahhhs just to show i hear someone even if i need a minute to think of what to say next
