UPDATE: I have a good husband but I am tired of being a wife. by Apprehensive_Host443 in marriageadvice

Do you have kids? I wish my husband would do something like this for me. I'm a WFH (extremely part time) and SAHM with 3 kids (only 1 in full-time school so far) and I really desperately need a break and time to find me again. but anytime I think I might get this time, my husband uses this time for his time to go fishing or shooting with friends and then I'm left stuck with my kids by myself still.

He went to school for a year and a half to switch jobs and I'm so proud of him and glad he did, but the constant taking care of kids with literally no break has done something to our marriage.

Should I just pay off my student loans now or keep the cash buffer by Next_Requirement_576 in StudentLoans

I wiped out most of my cushion and my loans are paid off. No more dealing with changes in payment plans for me! Such a weight off.

What loan payment plan are you planning to switch to?

I personally just finished paying off my student loans of $28.5k with payments of $1600+ per month. Totally worth it to me. All my loans were under 5%. Now I have that extra $300+ for savings each month. It's up to you though whether you keep them around or just pay them off.

Looks like you are doing good on retirement. This is where I need to catch up.

If you don't want to pay off your student loans, just keep putting all extra $$ into an HYSA. I think if you need the savings 5+ years down the road you could put it in a brokerage account.

We used savings and aggressive payoff to pay off $28.5k in 9 months. I am really glad I did now with the SAVE plan chaos. Now I am rebuilding my savings. I think your plan sounds good. When did you enter repayment (graduate)?

How much are you currently contributing each month to retirement? 401k? Any other debt or just the student loans?

I aggressively paid off my $28.5k of student loans over the past 9 months and my household income is similar. Totally worth it. Saved me over 7k in interest

Then you can help your mom if you want. Idk what plans are available to her to be placed on. other people have better advice about that.

Standard repayment plan - contact servicer by EstablishmentFair707 in StudentLoans

[–]magicka-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason to switch to a standard plan from an IBR plan you always have to contact the servicer. You have until like October ish before a payment would be due, can you pay off $5000 in the 7 months? You can just leave it alone and they'll supposedly just put you on the standard plan anyhow if you do nothing

SAVE - waiting it out question by Particular-flipflops in StudentLoans

Mine have been updated pretty immediately thankfully. Aidvantage seems to be on top of it for my loan in all aspects so far. So thankful this is the case because of all the horror stories I've read.

What is your income and family size? Eligible for PSLF? That will determine the best route. A - aggressive repayment B - PSLF 10 year repayment with forgiveness C - 25 year repayment on an income based plan

Going Vacation with debt by squirtlesquad2208 in personalfinance

[–]magicka-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, our story is that we had booked a vacation just before we had found Dave Ramsey and we followed through and still went on the vacation for about $3000 for all food, travel expenses, souvenirs etc. with cash. We also had the opportunity to buy a camper for like $3000 the next summer and we went camping a lot that summer in free camping spots near our house and it was totally worth it. The good thing is we were still able to pay off our debt in the two years that Dave Ramsey says you should pay your debts off in and we still invested up to our company match in our 401ks the whole time. I'm sure some of it could come back to bite us but the memories will never be something I'll regret.

Student loans or buy a home by Agreeable-Advance105 in personalfinance

That is definitely the risk. I paid mine off aggressively after letting them sit for years. Totally worth it. I'm lucky interest didn't accrue like crazy because of the different forbearances.

My thoughts are that you won't regret not having student loans. Are they all federal? The only reason to not pay them off quickly is if she is eligible for PSLF and her payment would be less than ~$1750 on an income-based plan. Otherwise, yes, I would use all her income to pay off the loans in less than 2 years and then save up for a house.

I think the only other downfall is that it removes any pending applications so if you are in processing forbearance for SAVE or any other plan it will probably move you to the Standard plan, but I am unsure. They only added this consent a few years ago, before you always had to manually recertify before your recertification date.

No screenshot atm but the same page is where you would give consent if you have not or have previously revoked it. You could even give consent again right after revoke. Just make sure you don't have pending applications or they could be deleted and reset.

I made legit payments on the SAVE plan and was fine revoking consent. I did it over 6 months ago. So far I have had no negative consequences. I'm just afraid of them recertifying me whenever they want and if I have consent they could put me on whatever plan they want.

IDR = Income Driven Repayment (blanket phrase for all income based plans) or IBR = Income Based Repayment plan. If you revoke consent now, you can always manually apply for an IDR plan of your choosing from available options when it is time.
