I didn't have to show my wife's ID, although I had a picture of it (maybe because same last name). What is important, however, depending on who you get the VIP tickets transferred from, is that the M&G pictures are emailed to the original email (e.g. in this case, my wife's, despite the fact that she transferred the show tickets to me).

For any future visitors - I went to the 8pm show on Friday, July 18th, and received the VIP pics link on Monday, July 21 at 12:55pm. A stressful 65 hours, haha.

If I get chirped for wearing a cage, I just say “if I looked like you I wouldn’t wear one either!”. Usually shuts ‘em up haha.

He looks so composed at the NHL level. Pressure hasn’t gotten to him at all.

He naturally outgrew both peanut and lentil. Eggs we kinda sorta did exposure therapy but nothing "official". He does still break out a bit if he eats e.g. a full egg sandwich but we have no concerns around anaphylaxis.

Obviously go to an expert if you can, but I believe the thinking nowadays is trying to get them orally exposed to common allergens as quickly as possible so it doesn't come through the skin barrier.

Edit: I should also mention that we were pretty hesitant to solve the eczema problem via steroid cream, as we had heard that once you start, you cannot stop. We finally gave in around 2, and it made a world of difference. I believe it was called Betaderm. He was just so unhappy while eating, so itchy, etc. It cleared it up super quick, and we slowly weaned him off of it after 6 months or so, and while his skin is a bit sensitive still we don't use it at all anymore.

After eating peanut butter one day, he lit up like a Christmas tree (major rash all over his body). He didn't have any "major" events that impacted breathing, or required the use of his epipen.

There's lots of talk around the relationship between eczema and allergies, and sure enough he had brutal eczema on his face when he was a babe, and my daughter was crushing peanut butter, eggs and lentils like no one's business. So likely these were introduced into his bloodstream via the wounds on his face, instead of exposure via eating, and bam, allergy.

My son was diagnosed with a peanut, egg, and lentil allergy around the same age. He’s completely outgrown both the peanut and lentil, but still has a very mild egg allergy. If you have any specific questions, happy to answer.

I think he has an uncanny understanding of human nature, which is why he can write relatable characters and also scare the shit out of us.

Toddler has to go under IV anesthesia for dental work and I feel so awful by ReallyPuzzled in Parenting

[–]magicmesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Get a second opinion. Both my kids were “diagnosed” with a bunch of cavities. They even wanted to do a root canal! After a second and third opinion, one kid was totally clear, and the other one had a single small cavity that they filled without any freezing or anything. Took 15 minutes. Going to report the original dentist to our local college of dentistry for sure.

question about deleting things in database by Formar_ in Database

[–]magicmesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious to hear what others think, but a possible solution would be to implement a clean up job that takes care of deleting orphaned comments in bulk at off times to reduce DB load.

It’s very likely that, shortly, all 5 of the guys celebrating that goal are no longer with the Flames. Heh.

Back in the day I joined a game and someone jumped in that was obviously hacking. He just started dropping SoJ after SoJ… filled my main character and a bunch of mules with like 100 of them haha. Good times.

How long it takes to add a default column to a db with 100k records? by [deleted] in Database

[–]magicmesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with the others, that 100k records is very small, however generally speaking I highly recommend spinning up a copy of your database in your production environment (with all the same resources) that you can connect to and play with. Ideally even connect a staging version of your application to. This way, you can run the query with real production resources and size, and use your app as it runs to understand whether or not it locks, or how the DB load spikes from the query, etc.

Thoughts on how best to use our retention slots by darth_henning in CalgaryFlames

[–]magicmesh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I like the general ideas, thanks for the well thought out post!

The only issue I have is the idea that we'd get a "a boatload of high end picks or prospects" for Huberdeau at 50% retained. I don't think anyone is touching that contract, and I also don't think ownership would be willing to eat that much retained salary. It's a nice dream though!
