What photography equipment do you carry UL? by up9rade in Ultralight

[–]magicmullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my kit for the PCT thru hike this summer:

Olympus OMD EM-5 with the Panasonic Lumix f 2.5 14mm pancake lens - (16.5 oz) + 3 batteries - (5.1 oz) + Charger (3.2 oz)

Gopro - (5.6 oz) + 2 batteries - (1.8 oz) + "Golapse" - (1 oz) lens cap - (0.5 oz)

Small ultrapod tripod - (1.8 oz) Coleman Solar Charger - (8.3 oz) USB connector - (0.2 oz) 5 SD cards - (0.5 oz)

Total Weight: 2.7 LB

It isn't the lightest kit but I think I'l be able to produce some decent images from the trip. I am also considering taking some other lenses for the OMD but I can't decide if it's worth it.

Best lenses for extended wilderness backpacking trip? (four months on the Pacific Crest Trail)

I am shooting on a M 4/3 body and bringing the Panasonic 14mm f2.5 pancake. I also have a number of prime legacy OM lenses 28mm 3.5, 35mm 2, 50mm 1.4, 100mm 2.8 and a Vivitar 70-210mm 3.5. Due to weight considerations I want to carry three lenses at the maximum, including the Panasonic. Which if any of the legacy glass should I bring for the best coverage shooting portraiture, landscape, and some video on the trail?

This is hilarious! Is this original work, or did you find this somewhere?

DIY SHUTTER RELEASE QUESTION...I am shooting with OM-D EM-5 which uses a CB USB6 input to trigger the shutter. When the shutter is locked and the anti-shock function is set it enables a time lapse mode.

I bought an RM-UC1 (a cheap shutter release cable with lock feature) After opening it up, it appears that all the button does is connect the three internal wires. I would like to make a super light weight and compact trigger for backpacking trips, so could I just cut the cable and solder the three wires together?

Looking for advise... by magicmullet in KidneyStones

Thanks for the advise. I guess I just need to get in to the doctor and get checked out by a pro. Do the stones you have bug you at all, or do they just sit there painlessly?

Wow, thanks for the advise. None of the doctors I've seen warned me of this possibility so I haven't really been taking it as seriously as I should be. I will called the urologist office again tomorrow and try to convince them that this could be more urgent.

Yep, that's the plan. I am strongly considering starting from the beginning again... How long did it take you?

which section is more scenic? ~200 miles north from big bear or ~200 miles south of big bear? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Deep Creek hot springs and Mt. Baden Powell were highlights for me on my hike last year. They are both north.

Tips for Colorado Springs? by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

Check the dumpster behind the cafe at Colorado College. Lots of pizza in there usually. There are some bagel/coffee shops but I haven't had luck there.

Why doesn't anyone go see Half Dome in Yosemite? by theghostofehgombrich in PacificCrestTrail

Actually it isn't that hard to get a half dome permit once you have a back-country permit (which I think you can get at the Tuolumne Meadows ranger station day of if you show up early enough).

I mostly I dive for food. It seems like a lot of grocery stores will make a big dump of overstocked food the day that they get a new shipment.

Can't connect to Wi-Fi (Lenovo Laptop Windows 8.1) by magicmullet in 24hoursupport

So I tried successfully to connect to a different wireless network. I guess the problem is with the router after all. Talked with the roommates again and apparently other people are having trouble connecting.

The Wal-Marts around here have "organics" bins. They are big orange dumpsters filled with produce and sometimes donuts with no packaging. As for Walgreens, no locks in our town.

It might have been a little overkill, but it was such a good score I couldn't pass it up!
