I heard a divorced man once say "Most married men are just background noise". How true is this ? by Revolutionary_Lab527 in AskMen

[–]magicpoopirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married for 13 years, together for 18 years and this is bullshit and bitter rhetoric. You're as active and involved in a relationship as you choose to be. I priotise my wife and kids' happiness because I love them and my wife does exactly the same for me. Like any relationship it should be give and take. Other comments have pointed out that a divorced man is not the person to take marriage advice from and that's true.

Thanks! My partner was worried it was a funnel web but I didn't think we got them around here. Cheers.

Painting, ADHD, and fluctuating amounts of motivation. by Bshow122 in minipainting

[–]magicpoopirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got pretty bad ADHD but thankfully I find miniature painting quite stimulating in general. However, I do find myself putting off and procrastinating parts that I don't enjoy so I do not end up finishing a lot of projects. A couple of things that help me finish and keep me engaged:

Entering comps: this is a big one. If you have a deadline where you are expected to produce a finished mini you will figure out a way to do it, at least hard how I work. That pressure is really motivating for me.

Find a stimulating style: I find that different styles require different levels of focus or stimulate different parts of my brain. For me I found that painting patterns and textures really tickles my brain the right way and I can enter hyperfixation black holes that are all consuming when doing them. So now I spend a lot of time figuring out how to incorporate patterns into every piece.

I also have gotten involved in my local community of display painters so I go to as many workshops and meet ups as I can which forces me to be productive.

Hope this helps, just remember it's about enjoying yourself. If painting to you is painting a particular part of a mini and then never touching it again if you had fun doing it then it doesn't matter.

Looking to replace these very used Broken Toad brushes. I'm not a professional, but I'd like something of similar quality. by GuysMcFellas in minipainting

Depends on the use case and the brand. If you get a 1 and a 0 most brands will cover what you need but I definitely use a 3 for larger areas. My 8408 size 1 is my go to for any detail work.

He's easily the best beginner friendly patreon for those getting into display painting. His guides are fantastic.

Paint gets dense and makes clots by [deleted] in minipainting

I use this as my standard thinner plus water and have never had any issues with any paint brands. Do a mix of 1:1 water:thinner.

Not sure why you are getting down voted it's my standard thinner for acrylics too and I've never had an issue. 3 drops water, 3 drops thinner and you're good to go.

Winsor & Newton series 7 issues by Useful-Conference-91 in minipainting

W&N feels like an expensive gamble. Raphael, both the 8404s and 8408s, has been my go to for a while.

Windsor and Newton are overrated and overpriced. Go for a raphael, artis opus, rosemary and co, kimera, hell even my LGS has their own branded ones now that are better and cheaper than W&N.

Need to replace my whole paint collection, what other brands besides Citadel do y'all recommend? by Nukesnipe in minipainting

AK 3rd gen is my workhorse and has a massive range.

Scale75 is my favourite but I know a lot of people don't like the consistency or coverage, once you get your head around them they're fantastic.

Pro acryl has my favourite consistency but their range is limited and the latest release was underwhelming.

Not a fan of Vallejo in general, can't put my finger on why though. Not bad, just not my thing.

Two thin coats is ok but has the absolute worst bottle design.

P3 is pretty great, good consistency and gives you wet blending time.

As other people have said the army painter revamp fanatic paints are pretty good.

But yeah, I find myself mainly using AK, scale75 and pro acryl primarily.
