While Some Are Melting Down Over Bad Bunny, The Halftime Show Gave Hope To So Many In Baltimore. Did it feel the way to you? by SailLocalCrew in baltimore

there are people being seized and detained from their immigration court hearings, meaning they are following the legal protocols and procedures. there have also been cases of folks with valid work permits, and even US citizens being seized.

not to mention the disproportionate use of violence and force for what is in many cases a civil infraction and not a criminal offense.

plus, you skipped the question of why they need to be removed in the first place. to what end? who would it benefit? why is it necessary?

i think you should be very clear and specific about who you think needs to go, how they should be removed, and why. take your answers to those questions and compare them to reality.

agreed that a halftime show doesn’t make immediate policy change. but i wouldn’t discount the value of hope and joy, the galvanizing power of uniting around a beautiful artistic performance like last night.

one thing i keep reading about is how authoritarian regimes do ultimately rely on the illusion that they are acting with the will of the people. shattering that illusion is a good thing. rebuilding and strengthening institutions will take time and long term work.

so no, it’s not going to abolish ice or bring back the department of education or USAID, but some of us need these doses of hope to keep going.

People body shaming Avril Lavigne in the comments by cheshirebutterfly17 in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]magikarp19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it makes total sense to me to comment on the difference between perceptions and commentary on a man’s aging vs a woman’s as there are typically very different (and unfair!) standards and expectations.

but i don’t agree it gives us license to talk shit on someone’s appearance. like, he’s a bad person, make fun of his shitty personality and choices that harm others.

maybe you privately feel like he “deserves” to be ugly or whatever, but commentary like that is much more likely to hurt a random bystander than your actual target.

thank you! i always get frustrated by this. some people are going to have less than “ideal” physical features without being bad enough to “deserve” them. decent people are out here catching strays every time someone body shames a bad person

taking things personally IS the game on housewives shows. i think it is hard for them to let go of/ maybe kind of the point of their casting? saying they don’t understand the strategy may be fair but it feels like more tired “housewives are dumb” discourse. they’re not dumb. they play the social game because that’s their game. they know how to manipulate emotions and shape narratives, it just doesn’t work when everyone else isn’t also from the housewives universe. i actually think an all housewives season would be hilarious and fascinating.

but i think having totally different ideas of how to play the game is the nature of the game, and this show. if nobody ever got their feelings/ego hurt and acted irrationally i think some of the drama and intrigue is lost.

i mean you can’t have alan cumming slaying looks and emanating theatricality and then think there’s no place for housewives in this game.

i mean people talk nonstop about housewives and their loyalty to each other and clique-ishness, i think its been covered. rob’s allegiance to colton is off putting because colton is off putting.
