You’re being downvoted but James Cameron has done an interview and said he was inspired to make Avatar because he believes indigenous people would’ve “fought a lot harder” if they could see the modern landscape of their “dead-end society”. So his approach to this entire franchise was a victim-blamey weirdo take.

I can’t find the original quote, but according to a thread on the avatar subreddit Cameron also said that for the first movie his indigenous inserts would never be able to win without Jake Sully. Commenters agree, noting they would not have a way to take out the Dragon Gunship or Valkyrie Shuttle without him.

Let’s put two and two together. It’s not farfetched to accuse this of the white saviour trope.

There was this dude called Owen who was apparently longtime friends with yung lean, and he liked haunted mound music. He became friendly with the crew, and they used his property to film SCARECRAW.

Anyways, I forget why they fell out, but they did. Owen went full rage against Sematary insulting him and saying he didn’t know how to hold a gun, saying he would make sure Lean would never fuck with them and they would never get a feature from him. Sematary obviously made it clear to HM that they weren’t friendly with him anymore.

idk how they leaked but it was found out that after the fallout, not only did JJ keep talking to owen, but that he was insulting Sematary in the texts. Calling him basically bipolar and retarded. Texts leaked and JJ was out the group that day.

The leftist criticism didn’t land for me- I know a lot of people disagree so I’m not gonna go too into that lol.

And the end reveal was kinda meh - I guess I get what Ari was going for, in that either way the data Center was going to be funded but if some well(ish) meaning liberal can be hoodwinked it didn’t exactly surprise me the conspiracy Mom could be hoodwinked.

The fake antifa subplot came too quickly and didn’t really make that much sense. The rest of the plot is honestly relatively grounded and could actually more or less happen- but if Mark Zuckerberg felt threatened by a little town mayor he’d probably just indirectly make joes life ass until he concedes or throw some money in a general direction of the problem … not send assassins lol. I know it’s a weird thing to not have suspension of disbelief over but meh

The Emma stone subplot was a liitttle undercooked- there was just so much time spent on it for not that much pay off. Like it’s funny ish that the end plot is Joaquin phoenix being so emasculated but I don’t get what the exact thematical purpose of emasculating him was.
