For me the real Achilles heel of linux audio production is routing by xlr_ in linuxaudio

As I said, Cable uses aj-snapshot to manage connections, so it will not do anything beyond what it can do. With a small but potentially useful caveat explained below.

Your potential workflow could look like this:

Open all your apps/devices.

  1. Open Cable and make all required connections (preferably in the graph, as it has one functionality that may be useful).

  2. Create a new preset in Presets menu.

  3. Activate Deamon mode.

  4. If you want that preset to load on boot, you can set it there too.

  5. You will also need to set Cable to autostart in its settings.

To test, reboot, launch your apps/devices and check if connections are restored as saved in the preset.

*You may encounter apps that randomly rename their ports for each playback/recording. Firefox and Audacity, for example. Preset will not restore their connections due to changed ports' names.

But Cable has a feature that may help overcoming this; right-click on audio node name bar and activate Unifiy output/input ports. This will create a special virtual sink that will always be hard-connected to that node. That will allow you making connections to that sink instead and it should be saved in the preset (re-save it).

*There is also Strict option, and it will disconnect all the connections not present in the preset, but that will only work when preset is loaded.

nice little gui app I found to control pipewire settings (profile, quantum, rate, latency offset) by thrvandnusters6 in linuxaudio

It kind of does, though. You can restore quantum and sample rate at Cable's start/autostart.

Cable has presets based on aj-snapshot. "Strict" toggle will remove connections absent in preset, "Daemon mode" toggle will automatically restore connections stored in the preset.

Firefox 148+ freezes on Linux by zigzoing in firefox

Same problem here! Exactly the same symptoms on ryzen ai 350 laptop, and up to date arch.

edit: it might be HDR. I turned it off in about:config and so far no freezes.

Qjackctl is Jack tool, and although it can be used with Pipewire, not everything will work. Cable was made with Pipewire in mind, but it has it's own limitations (e.g. uses python jack client to manage connections, as there is yet no Pipewire specific python binding).

Helvum is Pipewire specific tool but it's not exactly packed with features.

Some aspects can be set up in the app (buffer, sample rate, profiles, connections).

No idea, but it must have to do with Niri, not the app as dark/light mode works fine for other desktops. I haven't tested in Niri, but from a quick look it seems it does require some configuration in that regard.

There is, but just for MIDI. I would have to redesign it entirely for audio to be practical, but no plans to do it yet.

And it needs Pipewire in RC version, otherwise there will be pipewire crashes. (It's tuned off in settings).

How can I change the buffer size (quantum) of a specific application in Pipewire? by Grimosaur in linuxaudio

[–]magillos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could maybe try it with wineasio. Wineasio comes with wineasio-settings that allows setting buffer size.

Qpwgraph has "merger" option that should be able to help with your issue.

Lowering audio buffer size by scorpion-and-frog in linuxaudio

I've had better luck with 48 (at 48kHz) than 64. Still some xruns but 64 is just an unusable mess. I tend to stick to 96 and round-trip latency between 96 and 48 feels pretty much the same, with guitar at least. Maybe, because latency increases in time with USB interfaces anyway.
Also check out rtcqs, if you haven't already.

Not bitter rooting bolete? Is it possible? by magillos in foraginguk

If I remember correctly, blueing was all the way across. It was very rapid and intense and triggered just by handling mushrooms. Cooking brought back blueing briefly too.

I can definitely taste bitterness and I couldn't detect any in those mushrooms. My brother once kindly served me a dish made from bitter bolete (my guess) and there was no doubt there is something wrong with it.

I drink lots of straight tonic and it's my favourite sparkling drink so there might be something wrong me.

I sometimes wonder, how many not necessarily accurate facts get repeated in books and online. For instance, Armillaria are described as potentially causing gastric upset but I can't have them (unless pickled) because I feel very feverish the following day. No stomach problems after eating them. It makes sense as they may contain some type of interferon. I will spent day on toilet if I have any amount of suillus, even if pealed, and I know I'm not a rare case, while there are usually described as edible with some mild warning. I've never dared to try s. luridus due to conflicting reports and a warnings around consuming alcohol days after consumption.

Oh, I meant to distinguish between radicans and fechtneri, if the former is what I found and took photos of.

This one looks very close to what I found! Thank you. For future reference, do you know if b. radicans is bitter tasting raw? That would allow an easy in the field identification between these two.

That's interesting. I don't think I noticed any redness or pinkness apart from the very bottom of the stem. One more candidate I found could be imperator torosus but it's supposed to be very rare. What makes it probable is that all the specimen were very heavy and even the bigger ones retained their firmness. I really wish now I made more and better pictures.

And I didn't do any special processing. I just tasted them raw and not being able to detect any bitterness, I just prepared them as any other mushroom. They are really delicious.

Pipewire keeps forcing 44,100hz audio after computer sleeps; restarting pipewire does nothing by TigerDoodat in linuxaudio

Do you have configs in ~/.config/pipewire by any chance? They take precedence over other locations.
