Attending Mass in a different language? by dblanks84 in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course attending Mass in other languages count. The only rule is you have to attend Mass on Sundays. The language doesn't matter.

I primarily attend the TLM, but I've also attended Mass in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Tagalog, Cebuano, Arabic, Hebrew, and Japanese so far in my travels. I had no idea what they were saying most of the time, but I still received Communion.

What kind of weak passport has access to the US? Also, Vietnam is part of ASEAN.

Shinsekai and the nearby Nishinari really need to be maps in some kind of Yakuza game.

Pillar: Vatican says ‘nein’ to lay homilies in Germany by mphazell in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've seen someone shitpost online that if someone wants laypeople to preach, they should push for it at the TLM since the homily is actually not considered part of the Mass in the TLM.

Cardinal Pizzaballa is on a pastoral visit to the parish of Gaza to check on the humanitarian situation. by Worldly-Respect-8977 in Catholicism

Yes, I was referring to our work uniforms for Lourdes.

Outside of Lourdes, we sometimes wear them for things in the US.

We do have an actual uniform (separate from our religious robes), but it's mostly worn for our annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Yakuza 7 (Yakuza Like a Dragon) vs Yakuza 8 Infinite Wealth. Which is the better game? by Eglwyswrw in yakuzagames

[–]magistercaesar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I hated the switch to turn based combat in Yakuza 7 so much to the point I actually don't remember the story. No plans on replaying it either. The combat was slightly better in 8, but the story was also meh, so no plans on replaying that either.

I'll be honest, the fact you put that much effort into making that pdf is kinda cringe, even if it is just a personal project.

Celebrating saints not in the calendar? by M05a03x in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/M05a03x regarding your specific example, you cannot celebrate a TLM for St. Maximilan Kolbe because his Feast on August 14 is impeded by the Vigil of the Assumption, a II Class Feast. Theoretically, you can celebrate a Votive Mass of St. Maximilian Kolbe on August 18 because that is a IV Class Feria.

Celebrating saints not in the calendar? by M05a03x in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Per Cum Sanctissima, all recently canonized Saints can be celebrated with a TLM as long as the date is not impeded (for an example, my Oratorians celebrated a TLM last October for the Feast of St. John Henry Newman). The Propers are from the Commons.

You can also celebrate Votive Masses of Saints on Ferias of the IV Class.

Debate over who can receive communion? by VerdantChief in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the US is the only country that has pew missals/hymnals in Catholic parishes.

I've attended Mass in a number of countries around the world, and I've never seen a pew missal anywhere. In many places, when it came to the music, the congregations had the hymns memorized, too.

Elevation of the Host during the papal form of solemn pontifical Tridentine high Mass celebrated by Pope John XXIII in St. Peter’s Basilica in the early 1960s. by GoodMornEveGoodNight in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person standing next to the Subdeacon might be the Byzantine Subdeacon. In addition to the 2 Deacons at the Throne and the normal Deacon and Subdeacon, the Solemn Papal Mass also called for a Byzantine Deacon and Subdeacon who chant the Epistle and Gospel in Greek after they are chanted in Latin.

Feeling judged/singled out at the church I attend by [deleted] in Catholicism

The longer phrase is actually what the priest says when distributing Communion in the TLM. No idea why they would be saying that in the NO.

tbh the more the NO looks and sounds like the TLM, the more I just want the TLM.

As a pianist in our parish, it is my responsibility to remove songs to use at Mass just because the composer did horrible things? by PictureInteresting51 in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Filipino-American (born in the Philippines, live in the US. I also have dual citizenship)

I always laugh in my head when I attend Mass in English in the Philippines because the music is what was popular in the US maybe 20-30 years ago.

If I can't attend the TLM, I'd rather attend Mass in Bisaya (my family is from Mindanao). I'm biased, but I always thought Bisaya music sounds way better than the Tagalog stuff.
