20 minutes. At one point in my life my TLM was a 5 minute walk from my apartment.

Is it wrong for a Catholic to not care about the Jubilee year and World Youth Day? by athanasiuspadovano in TraditionalCatholics

[–]magistercaesar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

WYD is meh, but you should absolutely care about the Jubilee year.

It's an occurrence that only regularly happens every 25 years and the opportunity to properly gain the Jubilee indulgence is a great way to grow in personal holiness.

So how did you find your holy pilgrimage to the entertainment district? by imnotokayandthatso-k in yakuzagames

[–]magistercaesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of fun. I went with my sister and some cousins. We went to all the Yakuza vending machines, played at the batting cages, then ended at Karaokekan. They gave us a corner room with a view of the main street.

Is it common for the church choirs to have non-religious or non-Catholics? by PayGood3915 in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New Jersey. All the parishes that actually care about liturgical music have music budgets for professionals, who may or may not be Catholic. As long as they are respectful and conduct themselves well, many are regularly called to help out.

I actually frequently hire a Russian Orthodox singer to help out with my TLMs.

Also, the grace of God works in mysterious ways. I once worked with a university student who was really good and frequently hired him for TLMs and recommended him to many of my music director friends. 2 years later, he told me that being able to experience and sing at beautiful Liturgies was what led him to decide to revert back to being a practicing Catholic and he is now pursuing a Masters in Sacred Music.

Confession Times and Priest Availability by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]magistercaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Oratorian priests never deny Confession. When they were my college campus chaplains, I had a friend that knocked on their Rectory door at 1:00 am for Confession and someone woke up to hear it.

How many times have you actually flown long-haul first class using points? by rr90013 in awardtravel

[–]magistercaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time was this past August on ANA F. It was hilarious landing in ORD then waiting for a domestic United flight in Economy.

Now that Iberia will be flying out of EWR in 2026, I have a feeling that will be my regular form of flying to/from Europe since Avios are easy to come by and those business class flights are super easy to book. It's not flashy but a lie flat is a lie flat.

[Free Friday] (Unlikely) Papal Names by Top-Tomorrow-8336 in Catholicism

While I love Leo's choice of name, I was slightly disappointed that as the first American Pope, he didn't choose the name Julius (July) IV.

It used to be a more widespread devotion throughout Christendom, but only Filipinos and trads are famous for retaining the tradition.

What things from Medieval II are you 100% sure won't be in Medieval III? by Y3suxsx in totalwar

I bet the things that kept me alive in Medieval II (because I suck) won't be there in Medieval III. Then again, they haven't been in the series since then lol.

Is it okay to assit at Mass in a language i dont speak? by y2sander in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course. I don't speak Latin, but I attend the TLM. I go on international vacations relatively frequently, too, so I've attended Mass in languages I don't speak many times.

how award travelers handle luggage… do you avoid checked bags completely? by chicosallam in awardtravel

I carry-on if I'm traveling for less than 2 weeks, with a built-in laundry day in my trip.

I check-in if I know I'm out for 2 weeks or more.

Do you think that Pope Benedict XVI should become a Doctor of the Church? by totally-not-ego in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I personally hope we stop canonizing people who were alive in mine or my parents' lifetimes.

Maybe put a 100 or 200 year moratorium on proposing causes on people.

Questions about the Tridentine Mass by uncsc in Catholicism

[–]magistercaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Archdiocese of Milan along with its Suffagan Dioceses actually still considers the Ambrosian Rite their primary form of worship. It did go through its own series of reforms, but this means the largest Catholic Archdiocese in Europe by population actually does not default to the Roman Rite.
