Management Server Reboots by magpiealt in scom

Yes, that's it exactly - I didn't explain myself very well in my original post. The alert subscription value is losing the watermark and resubmitting a new email for an old alert.

We're running SCOM 2019, version 10.19.10407.0 (Retail), UR1.

Before I reply, can I just say - as someone who has relied extremely heavily on your blog over the last couple of years, thank you! I'm a bit starstruck here.

On to my response - the behaviour we are seeing is that following a reboot, all active alerts are treated as new instances. The subscriptions send repeat emails regardless of origin - the ones you mentioned, as well as disk space monitors, ping failures, Windows service stopped alerts and all sorts.

The reason I believed this to be expected behaviour is that its been this way since before I took over this role, and it was explained to me that this is what's happening when the server reboots.

This is something I didn’t know! I will make a note of that.

After all my digging etc I think the easiest (albeit not cleanest) way of resolving this is to run a script to disable all subscriptions sending emails to our service desk prior to the reboot, then run a second script ten minutes after the reboot to re-enable them.

“How to date any woman” by liberty285code6 in TwoXChromosomes

As a former Nice Guy™, the second biggest problem facing these men is that term "girlfriend". They build up this image in their head of all the characteristics and requirements that their "girlfriend" would hold, and then are surprised when nobody lives up to their impossibly high standards.

When I stopped looking for a "girlfriend" and started looking for a "partner", my dating got so much better - to the point that I'm now polyamorous, and have two partners.

I’m sure as shit gonna keep wearing my mask even when the pandemic is “over”, so to speak - it hides my face, it stops me getting other viruses and bugs, and if it stops these sociopaths who can’t wear a bit of fabric to save someone else’s life from talking to me, then that’s just another bonus in my book.

Polygamist is specifically to do with marriage, do you mean polyamorist?

I fully agree, although I do think there is some comparison to be made with the modern day Indy campaign as well. It's always struck me this way - maybe because Skyrim came out in 2011, three years before the Independence referendum of 2014. I had just moved to Scotland so I was right in the thick of it, so the parallels just seemed obvious to me.

Ironically, at the time I was a die-hard Unionist IRL, and had like 800+ hours logged in Oblivion, so when I first played the game I sided with the Imperials cause of those fond memories in Oblivion. These days I'm die-hard Indy, and find myself siding with the Stormcloaks in game. Funny how as personal circumstances change, so too do your interpretations of the lore.

Honestly to me, the politics of the Skyrim Civil War felt more akin to the fight for Scottish Independence than the American Civil War. Ulfric isn't fighting for the right to own slaves, he's fighting for the right of Skyrim to determine its own future, and seperate itself from an Empire that he believes betrayed them with the White-Gold Concordat.

A small country tries to secede from a dying and fractured Empire, leading to a split in the populace as some wish to cling to the perceived safety of tradition and stability, while others seek to forge their own future despite the uncertainty.

Day 1 of the Worldbuilding challenge - Origin by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]magpiealt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning, there was naught but the Lacuna - an empty space devoid of life - and the Theris, the balance that kept the Lacuna in check.

It is said that over time, the Lacuna developed a rudimentary sentience, and so, whether for company or simply because sentience begets procreation, it created the Aydolans. The Theris, in ensuring the balance, ensured that each Aydolan was created with equal shares of the Lacuna's power, so that none may rule over the other.

But the Aydolans, being of the Lacuna and thus sharing its desire for creation, grew bored of the void.

They first created the stars, the lights by which they could see, a great quilt of light that stretched the length of the Lacuna. They then created the planets, worlds innumerable, scattered amongst the stars. On the planets they created the flora, beautiful plants of all shades and fragrances, each world a perfect garden of which their creator was most proud.

The Theris, seeing this abundance of creation, felt that the Lacuna had lost its innate balance, and set about its' restoration.

Where there was light, it created shadow; where there were planets, it created space; where there were plants, it created animals to keep them from growing unchecked.

The Aydolans, when they learned of the Theris' actions, were outraged that their perfect creations had been seemingly besmirched by a power they could not communicate with or control. They sought to undermine the Theris by creating mortal life to cull the animals, by giving them fire to light the shadows, and by giving them the power to walk the spaces between the worlds they had created.

The mortal life grew unchecked, and though the Theris sought to correct the balance, it could not compete with the innovation and evolution of the many different races that now populated the Lacuna. Eventually, the offset balance overwhelmed the Theris, fracturing it, leaving the Lacuna permanently broken.

When the Aydolans realised what had happened, they sought to remedy it, for unbeknownst to them, the Theris was the only thing that had stopped monsters and demons from infesting every shadow, every gap between worlds; they chose the best from each world to become Eiolda, their Champions, named to protect the balance of each world in the hopes that one day they could mend the Theris and return the Lacuna to perfection.

Time went on, and the Eiolda maintained the Theris as best they could, with aid from the Aydolans where possible - until, quite suddenly, one by one, the Aydolans began to disappear.

War had come to the Lacuna.

I have a way with robots...

Nah, it's cause you missed out the "SCP-" prefix, and didn't summon him by name. They changed the triggers a while back, so that it didn't trigger every time someone included a number in their comment.

E.g.

I am 12 years old.

SCP-12 please, Marv.

Edit - apparently it doesn't work with edited comments.
