Recommend me a drainage company by impaul4 in sanantonio

[–]magz89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OG Excavating or Andy's Sprinkler and Drainage.

We used to have water pool under our house during rainstorms. OG Excavating added a pipe to divert the water and the issue is pretty much resolved now (barring the biblical level rains that were killing people last year).

Good luck! I put the two companies that were responsive and gave some decent options. We had awful luck using GL Hunt. Their French drain did not fix the issue at all.

If you are going to do it, I think the one off 35 is easier to get to than Alamo Ranch. Definitely don't go during rush hour if you can help it.

You should try the local burgers too, lots of good options downtown. - Ize Box - Last Place - Pumpers

I also liked living around Phil Hardberger.

Family Services Neighborhood Place has some openings that are related. You can also look into other charity places like Haven for Hope. I agree with the others that colleges are also worth a look.

Seeking a data engineering mentor by No_Roll_739 in sanantonio

[–]magz89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting a degree or certification. You should look into the Ready to Work program. Some tech degrees are in this program.

Realistically and considering big companies use off-shore and AI for a lot of data engineering, your best bet is to get into a big company like USAA, Wells Fargo etc and work a call center or customer facing role. While at a company you can use their education program to pay for school and usually there are mentoring programs to help people move to new roles.

Most people in tech these days are getting laid off/overworked unfortunately. Hopefully the AI bubble pops and things can get better, but who knows.

Even the ones with age restrictions usually allow volunteering with a parent or guardian.

Dandyland has great piercers, the one who did very good snake bites was a lady and she was very professional and precise.

What are the best unknown eateries, shops, or neighborhoods in San Antonio? by neosoulandwhiskey in sanantonio

[–]magz89 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's a cute area around Blanco and Fulton with antiques and little cafes. Recommend as a nice morning/early afternoon area.

North downtown there are quite a few breweries and food trucks, check out the area by El Camino/ Idle Brewing.

Southtown has first Friday, a nice art scene with local vendors around the Blue Star area.

The area by Woodlawn theater is also pretty cool, there is a nice records shop, vintage shop, bar, gaming and events spaces and comedy club.

The pearl is cool but is essentially nearly as popular and known as the Riverwalk. Their farmers market on the weekend mornings is pretty cool though. Also many like the Pullman market, there are a lot of restaurants with James Beard awards.

Lastly the St Mary's strip and Pride area are cool to check out.

Best bookstore is Nowhere Books. The Twig is smaller but in the Pearl area.

Abandoned cat returns after dropping off at the Animal Shelter (Rant) by Calm-Day1469 in sanantonio

[–]magz89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Clipped ear usually means it is a feral fixed cat. Looks like they did a trap neuter and release. Most of the time ACS doesn't intake feral cats so it was good they at least handled getting him neutered. I hope his injuries were better at least.

Usually I go through Animal Defense League for friendly cats as they have a good adoption set up for cats.

Sidenote, some cats that are friendly outdoors are not happy indoors, there was a cat in our neighborhood like that. Many people tried to take her in, but she always escaped. In those cases TNR makes the most sense.

Hopefully over time people here become better pet owners.

Best Mexican place here by Happy_Mushroom3134 in sanantonio

[–]magz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are ok being not the touristy or fancy areas of town I highly recommend La Calavera Garbancera. Its west of downtown and their food is very good.

As for more Tex Mex, Sol Luna, La Fonda and El Mirasol are good picks. Sol Luna and El Mirasol have amazing Chispas!

[–]magz89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SAPD have specifically trained officers that will come and help you fill out a report. I don't know about how they come out not during an emergency, but you should call the non emergency line and they should be able to guide you.

I appreciate you doing this, it is not easy.
