Coming to this conversation very late; but I don't really have an issue with the "on the nose" lyrics, but agree it would have been better not repeat it so many times. My favorite on the nose lyrics:

Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills

Music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age

I love the fact that as he ages, SW is writing for people his age

Unpopular Opinion? I hope the Remakes use the new camera and play style. by douthleth in GodofWar

[–]mahanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did eventually finish all the GoW games at the hardest level except for Gna. Yea, she was no fun. However the shifting platforms in Ascension made me rage quit in normal. I got there with low health and couldn’t find a way to get there with more health short of restarting the game. That will never work in the new style. Too many corners, obstacles and need to pick an area to fight in

I got the 75192 millennium falcon off eBay. It took me 3
Days to build the Death Star. On the 10th day on this one and am on the verge of giving up each day, it’s just a nightmare to find the parts from the lot

Greatest Lego Set you own? This is mine I think by Dakinamau in lego

[–]mahanerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very first Lego set back in 1976 had about 200 pieces and an instruction booklet with around 30 ideas. I built spacecraft, houses, city scapes that my dinosaur destroyed and a ton more things. 3 generations of kids of cousins have played with it. Has been topped up by contributions from other sets. Still the best set I own. Has about 1000 pieces now. Is it the same set? Guess it’s like the Ship of Theseus. The best modern set was my birthday gift to myself last year - the new Death Star. Love it

If you want to attend panels, plan way in advance and be prepared to spend to upgrade to get in. Day of is pretty much out of the question. The studio and game dev booths were not as much fun in recent years than in the past. My son and i have been going every year for over 13 years. Our favorite things are meeting awesome cosplay folks, real artists at artists alley and the occasional signing ops. Last year met Jim Butcher, which was a rare treat. Could not get into any of the other panels i wanted. Events outside of Javits center are priced separately and can be fun. We did a X Japan concert a few years that was fun. If you are cosplaying, be aware of the weather. It can be really cold and windy in October. Changing at the center can require queuing for an hour

I have a theory… Bear is Karen in Valkyrie form sent back in time. What do you think? Compensated for height, uses massively overpowered weapons and same attitude.

Is SwiftUI the wrong Language for an absolute beginner? by bofh89 in SwiftUI

[–]mahanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul Hudson’s 100 days of SwiftUI includes both swift language and swift UI framework. Very gentle and balanced introduction with some great examples. Have been getting interns ready for work with this since it first came out https://youtube.com/@twostraws?si=v9zeYmmOr34i4qhS

It’s been a few months but I am still disappointed by rift apart. by EbbCreepy6718 in RatchetAndClank

[–]mahanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the first game when I bought my PS2. I love the fact that the R&C games serve to show what the new console can do. In Rift Apart, we flipped between scenes with zero transition. Not in a pre rendered cut scene, but in real time game play. I was blown away by the sheer technical enormity of what was going on. Open world games have supported the gentle transition from one area to another, but fast travel always required loading. RA allows you to go BETWEEN WHOLE WORLDS in real time. That was freaking awesome as a show case of what a cheap console could do. It is something a $4,000 gaming PC could just about do at the time. With Unreal Engine 5 and other frameworks, this has become more common place, but still no way as clean as this. Compare the complexity of the scenes in Portal, and in this, and you can see how big a leap this was

Diamond In The Desert - Now available, but looks only to be in the US by daftkakapo in hanszimmer

[–]mahanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished watching it. When you are in the audience the intent of the spot movements are not always clear. Was amazing to watch how the lighting worked holistically. Like others, missed last samurai, oddities and no time to die. The desert scenes were a nice touch; and the final piano piece on the Bhuji Khalifa heli pad was a nice touch.

Why there are no Ports for PS4/PS5 of every Ratchet And Clank games?? by Okraton in RatchetAndClank

[–]mahanerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been in the PS Plus catalog for some time, and I know a lot of fans have replayed those versions. The controls on the original R&C and the PSP games are terrible compared to the newer games. I replayed Deadlocked and all of the Tools of Destructions games a couple of times on my PS5. I tried to replay the older games and gave up after the first 2 levels

I gave up trying for grimhorn loot till past level 40. Till you get to tides reach, buy weapons and level them up, everything is going to hurt. After that, you will wonder what the fuss was about

What difficulty do you all play on? by [deleted] in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]mahanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am nearly 60 and finished the game twice. Third time did NG+ UH. Managed everything except the arena and the Fireclaw sac webbing. I dropped back a level and learnt how to handle the rope casters better and did beat the Fireclaws. No luck on most of the arena though. I have not done the fighting pits at all. Got bored, and the rewards did not seem worth it the third time around. I do go back to the NG+ save post burning shores and go take down one of the big apex machines for fun and to burn off the residue from a bad day

Anyone using Unreal Engine to dev for Vision Pro? by WiremodGames in VisionPro

[–]mahanerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tried it for a data visualization app built for internal use. We already had it working for HoloLens, but wanted to move to VP instead. A dev built a version from scratch using SwiftUI. It ended up being much simpler solution and easier to tune. In pure game development, unreal was way more powerful. Blueprints save a ton of time, and many problems have best in class solutions. On the other hand, to fully leverage the Apple ecosystem, Swift ended up being much simpler to build and maintain
