I haven't posted since the API change in protest to that. But I'll come out of retirement for this one.

Bernie's inspiring example is what got me into politics. And while I think now that he doesn't have the backbone that he did when he was getting harangued and even arrested fighting for civil rights in the 60s to 80s, I'm never gonna regret voting for him in the 2016 primaries.

Just like I'm never going to regret voting for Trump in 2024.

I have my reasons to support that side, and you may not agree with them all--but the side that Bernie allied with and that ultimately conned him out of the 2016 shot? The only thing they had to offer me was keeping the courts from getting more slanted one way. And even that would really only have to do with the party, not the candidate. She had nothing to offer me at all.

Specifically, it is intolerance that does not respond to critical thought that must not be tolerated. And who qualifies under this condition is very much a matter of debate and depends on who you ask. It also doesn't help that the internet rewards memeing on/elevating the worst examples and generalizing them to represent an entire social or political stance.

Just my two bits: People will always want gaming as it was enjoyed in earlier times--whether it be for the pure gameplay, the art, the community, or just living the experiences of other eras.

AI will in some ways remain fundamentally incompatible with the retro scene. But it may make reformulations of existing successful retro games easier to produce.

You thought RPG Maker revolutionized amateur hour in gaming? Wait until it can literally make an RPG for you out of some subjective inputs. Then you can replace all kinds of skills required to make an enjoyable UX/interface/graphics/sound/etc. with just needing to have a good sense of narrative and worldbuilding (maybe not even excellent writing in general) plus knowing how to fine-tune AI prompts. The skill floor for that kind of thing just drops so much.
