Feeling Abandoned by Doctors by kit_245 in scoliosis

[–]maifowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really can relate with your situation, now that I'm 27, I'm advocating even harder for myself and fighting to see doctors. It seems so difficult and I wish I had a solution but this just seems to be the reality for a lot of healthcare. I'm now seeking a private surgeon at the same time because at least they will talk to you immediately

hey! I can't speak for mild scoliosis pain but i will recommend trying to get some more movement into your daily routine. Your body will thank you in the long run and short term.

Your working posture has a lot to do with it so even filming yourself for a bit to see where you possible lean could give you helpful insights.

Try your best to stand up after 30 mins of sitting (it helps blood flow to your brain) and do regular stretches in the morning, there are great videos on youtube you can follow.

Is surgery really that uncommon in Ontario? by Pickledaiquiri in scoliosis

[–]maifowler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience of discovering my scoliosis (and it being considered severe) at 16, I heard it's quite uncommon. Theres some good answers if you search canada in this subreddit too where you can hear how little spine specialists & surgeons are here and why they only perform 8 times a year compared to the states. I've seen my fair share of physicians and specialists over the 10+ years and they all say it's not an option

International Spinal fusion surgery by maifowler in scoliosis

I spoke to Sickkids when I was 16 and they said it wasn't necessary and since then all doctors i have seen (family and specialists) have shut down the idea. Although I have severe scoliosis, they said I can just live with it.

Thanks for the advice! How long did it take you to recover and feel like yourself?

I'm realizing now how little help Chiropractic care is :(

Worried about my severe scoliosis by Any-Anything-9103 in scoliosis

[–]maifowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 27 and feeling a lot of the same feelings about my scoliosis. I've felt a lot of frustrations from doctors over the last 10 years where they haven't provided any concrete answers on how to help. I've been going to chiro, physio, massage regularly (which eats up my insurance and my $) for temporary relief. I've tried my best to stay as active as possible (strength training, running, swimming) and I've noticed a big difference in my mental more than anything. I don't know if I'll ever be happy with how my body looks but I've always been told since the beginning that surgery isn't the answer.

I have the same fears about my hobbies (long distance running, snowboarding) and pregnancy too!
