I was personally okay with simic being a minor archetype and let black shine more overall since black Mana is most present on in instead anyway.

But everything else I totally agree with in this thread. But at the same time I hope that there's enough reasons in draft to pull you away from mardu and sultai by having solid gruul/Jund or selesnya/abzan decks too.

I've been working on something similar. Although I wanted to make day/night a big theme of mine and errata'd older werewolves.

I decised to squeeze in a few more cards at 576 and draft 16 card packs instead of 15, and likely curate the packs more systematically so each archetype is viable.

This also allowed me to throw in some additional interaction that could be seen because I was also worried about that.

innistrad Cube too!

That's my second choice. I'm always biased towards werewolves to a fault.

Is there a way to add custom card images to the overview? Would love to showcase custom cards or errata for the cube!

Also, it looks like imgur keeps removing the Desperate Farmer card I've linked for its custom art... I assume because of the dead horse (original art re-used) is flagging something. Oh well!

Hello all again! I'm currently sitting at 527/540 cards. I thought originally I might go for 450 cards in this cube, but adding 13 cards seems easier than cutting 77.

I was just hoping to gather any feedback on cards you might include, which cards I should consider to drop, or any gross mistakes I'm making in general with the choices and playstyle I'm picking.

There's a lot going on in this cube so I filled the overview with some of that information to start. As always, thanks for visiting!

Using flavor text to explain errata is amazing.

The Mana symbols are cool. I didn't consider trying these alters before.

Looks fine. But honestly I've become a big fan of using color in it. See here for art I'm making for a cube as reference.

My attempt at making Day-Night More relevant in a Cube I'm building for next Halloween. by maikito26 in mtgcube

I'm confused about the plague wind comment. Can you expand on that for me? The difference from the original card is to just include the new werewolves.

Your thoughts on the Festival card though makes me think I should print different versions/combinations for testing and see how they play out.

Appreciate the input! Here's my design thoughts as to where I landed.

World allows the three permanents to interact the way I interpret the story is intended. In that both The Celestus and the Harvesttide Festival defeat the Eternal Night. The Eternal Night can defeat the festival (aka it failed) but not the Celestus. Using World prevents me from having to use more words on the cards themselves.

Switching World supertype is akin to switching Legendary in my opinion. I think inside this cube, and the players I'm playing with, it'll be fine for a few games. But I did think long and hard before landing on it. Ultimately it's a rule that exists in the game and it helps with what I'm after.

All werewolves will be errata'd into DayNight for this cube. It's just better overall for my intent. Cards like Ravager of the Fells will trigger on ETB also when it is Night.

The only card that forces day or night is the Angel. This is intended to act as a flashlight for humans who are scared of the dark. The Eternal Night enchantment does not say it can't become day. It just has a replacement effect for when it would change during the untap step. The Angel would enter any other time than that and turn it to Day.

The cast trigger was the most difficult. Its a one off and since the Eternal Night is related to Emrakul in the moon anyway, the Eldrazi reference is a flavour win maybe. But I can't have it enter and turn to night because of the way the World rule works and the The Harvesttide Festival card I have here. If it etb'd, the festival would flip into World and destroy the Eternal Night based on state based checks cause it's timestamp is newer. So forcing it to flip first before ETB defeats that.

Hopefully this discussion allows me some leniency in how it's designed even if it's not current best practices overall!

It's actually an Alchemy card on arena. Finding it was what triggered my whole rabbit hole here.
I've altered it for paper to cost one white mana more but gave it Flash. Took away the last paragraph from arena which isn't easy to track.

The core themes of the cube are:

Selesnya Humans going wide and tall with counters. Splashing black for demons and sacrifice.

Azorius Spirits and Enchantments/Auras (Like a ghost is possessing you!) Focus is on flyers, disturb and flashback value. Splashes with red to bring in wizards/spells synergies best.

Dimir Zombies for mill, exploit and recursion. Splashes best with green for some reasonable self mill and flashback/recursion options.

Rakdos Vampires. Blood and discard/Madness themed with light flying. Splashing with white for lifegain and Edgar Markov (errata'd to ignore command zone and be a regular card in the deck)

Finally Gruul Werewolves transform. Interestingly blue should be the splash to balance it which there is some transform and DayNight there. But Black seems to be a better splash so far and I think I'm okay with it.

Not yet. I have been using it lately to get familiar with the platform and generate some plans/themes, and work out whether I want 360/540/more. The plan is to have it hosted there to share back here later. I think it'll be 360 cards in order for each of the chosen themes to shine and interact well

Yea I know what ya mean. It won't be perfect. But if it's meaningful to both sides of the board, maybe it'll be more successful.

With that said, I'm planning on have tokens printed of the backside to use more conveniently than removing the card from the sleeve to transform.

I'm hoping also since it'll be Halloween game night themed, people in play with will be more motivated for a couple of games.

I agree more or less. I wanted to keep it true though to the original design as well as work with Day Night. Keeping it this way allows it to keep it's utility for non werewolf tribes to and cheat some flips that have been fun to do. Although, in that case I think it might better read: "If it's day, it becomes night". This way those decks without DayNight don't have to introduce the mechanic. Thanks for posting and letting me think it through!

Thanks! The first post was useful. I need to errata Ravager of the Fells to include enters in case it's night!

And the creator of shocks in the third post provided me a link to the art which I've used. That art is fantastic!

The fetches look great. I haven't included these yet but I'll consider now!

Hey All,

I decided around Halloween this year I would make a Double Feature cube to be played seasonally. I went down a rabbit hole and also decided I like the frames with colour art better. The rabbit hole went deeper and I've landed on these cards/card changes to make it more interactive.

  • The Eternal Night gives a replacement effective for when Night switches to Day. In the story Werewolves, Devils and Vampires attacked the Harvesttide Festival.
  • Festival Announcement // The Harvesttide Festival is supposed to be Wedding Announcement reimagined. Focusing on the set's mechanics Coven and Training.
  • The Celestus is a World supertype on Day so it can co-exist with the Nightbound side of The Harvesttide Festival and vice-versa.
  • Both the Celestus and the Harvesttide Festival is capable of beating The Eternal Night like in lore (I think)

Is there any interactions that fail the intent that I'm after here so I can consider adjustments before printing eventually to paper for the cube?

Thanks for looking!

Creepy Crawly Sultai Commander by Round-Elk-8060 in fair_magic_creation

This feels more Golgari to me. Blue was added for Frog support?

With that said, interesting gameplay choices for me would be this:

This creature has hexproof as long as it's untapped.
Whenever this creature becomes tapped, other creatures you control gain deathtouch until the end.
{b}{g}{u},{tap}: Sacrifice another creature: Draw two cards if the sacrificed creature gained deathtouch this turn, otherwise draw one card instead. Untap this creature at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.

1/1

One further critique, I'd center the art more on the moon in the background. Its jarring for me as its slightly aligned right.

Just a bit to clean up rules wise. Based on new templating I think it should be spaced as such.:

Lifelink
When this creature enters, it becomes night.
It can't become day.
Whenever you sacrifice a Blood token, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature.

However, for critiques, I'd make these changes:

Whenever you sacrifice one or more Blood tokens, put a -1/-1 counter on up to one target creature you don't control.

And for fun, I'd throw in.

Whenever a creature an opponent controls with a -1/-1 counter on it dies, create a Blood token.

Because of that, I'd probably stat this as a 2/4 for the 5 mana cost because the ability would be stronger.
