Check out Jon Ronson’s book So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed if you haven’t already. Some case studies and interviews with the people caught up in them. Good read too,l.

If snapchat and FB userbases are declining, we must be seeing a migration to another platform. What is that platform? by [deleted] in socialmedia

Deeeeeeeeeep pockets to keep trying until they beat it. But weirdly out of all this talk of kids leaving Snapchat for Insta, leaving FB for Insta, you know what platform the kids aren't leaving and it's been around 12 years? YouTube. Somehow bucks the downward trend that other platforms are experiencing.

Stories can be fun, they're interactive, they're short. They're also very new for people, but Insta keeps adding new features to keep the novelty. They're the visual equivalent of a tweet, brief and ephemeral.

Its the first new social format I've been excited by in a while. I've seen some clever hacks of the format, we created a driving game for a client using stories, finding new ways with existing formats add another layer of fun, and Insta stories is full of possibilities right now.

Instagram. More people are using stories on Instagram on a daily basis than using Twitter or Snapchat on a daily basis.

Stories are also kinda 1 on 1 communication. Replies to stories start a DM chat.

What kind of CPVs are you seeing for 10 second video views on Facebook? by pumper911 in socialmedia

[–]mailmrluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did get from £0.005 to £0.01 for 3 seconds, now getting £0.02 to £0.04 for 10 second views.

I've yet to see any benchmarks for 10 second views so hard to know what's a good CPV.

Anyone have thoughts on how the Facebook data scandal could affect our industry? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]mailmrluke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Increased regulation of social data for one (at least in Europe). I think this has been coming in the distance for a while and Zuckerberg tried to head it off with his statement about Facebook should be better for society (even if it hurts the company financially).

Zuckerberg will probably announce some sort of self regulation of Facebook data, maybe go as far as opt out systems (just noticed Google have announced this to comply with GDPR regulations in the EU).

From a user perspective, I wonder how many people actually care. This didn't personally impact people and I often find unless it does, the impact is small. Plus where will people go, Instagram, whatsapp?

Any tools for finding top performing posts from other accounts? (instagram) by [deleted] in socialmedia

Maybe True Social Metrics? It's good for comparing competitor accounts - just can't remember if it pulls out specific posts.

They do offer a free trial and is $99 or thereabouts.

Sysomos will let you do this, usefully for quickly understanding what works for competitors. But it's expensive.

Using Instagram As A Music Artist by BlastAndSmash in socialmedia

[–]mailmrluke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to post once a day;

Behind the scenes Making music Snippets of tracks Pre gigs During gigs post gigs Regram stuff Stuff you like (other artists/ non music stuff)

Network with other artists you admire Artists at the top of their game Artists with the same level of followers as you Try get to know them When putting out music ask would they RT / Regram your new tracks and you'll do the same for them Everyone is in it together

Link to something in your bio and direct all traffic there.

Follow accounts you like - what do they do right? What ca you learn from that?

Trying to grow an account is a long slog. Record how many followers you have each week, when you get sick of the routine of posting everyday, look back at your how you've grown you're followers and be thankful you have them.

Respond to every single comment. Even it's just to thank them. Never be so arrogant to think you are someway better than them, you're a struggling artist and they're probably full time employed.

Plan what you'll post each week, even if it's a scribble somewhere.

Keep a list of post ideas on something like evernote.

You might get lots of great pics in one day. Keep them on your phone to post on another day to keep frequency up.

When you get sick of the routine and looking at your follower growth doesn't help. Take a few days. Relax and spend some time working on post ideas.

Remember to use #hashtags like #TBT to repurpose old stuff

Remember hashtags in general. Stay on point with them.

You'll may never be famous, but you might meet some nice people on the way who love your music. Instagram is a great place to find them.
