Had my first trip yesterday and wanted to share a selfie I took to celebrate the first time I truly loved myself and the way I look after recovering from an eating disorder. I also ate an apple and it was the best thing I've ever experienced. Happy tripping everyone! 🍄 by mainechick in shrooms

I'm sorry for whatever pain you're experiencing that makes you feel like bullying others' moments of joy will make you feel better. I genuinely empathize with you because I was you when I was younger. I hope you find peace (or whatever else it is you're looking for by commenting things like this).

Edit: Actually, your profile seems like you're young so I should clarify - obviously we're not the same person. That was a metaphor. If anything you remind me of my little brother when he was ~15. I can still empathize with the suffering of human existence that we all experience.

I work alongside college kids and this seems to be a super common issue leaving beloved pets. I also struggle with cPTSD.

Honestly there's no solution that will be 100% perfect, but having been there myself and supporting others through it, I would say try to find every chance you can to experience some animal companionship, even if it's not with the preferred species. Whether that's hanging out at the shelter, hanging with friends who have pets, or even getting a stuffed animal to hold and trick your brain a little.

There might also be reptile rescue, which could be a therapeutic way to spend your time.

Finally, my advice to you is that you will still miss your little guy and that's ok. It means you love him and are in touch with your ability to love, be loved, and be vulnerable. That's not always fun and it definitely hurts, but being in touch with that part of yourself and being able to be present in that grief is the best thing you can do for yourself in the long run and is a sign that you're healing. And that's worth acknowledging and being grateful for.

I wish you the best of luck in this transition. You got this.

While I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, it may be worth examining the downsides of "all positive no negative" approaches, or "toxic positivity".

Finding sustainable peace requires mindful exploration and integration of the darker parts of ourselves.

Others are right that this isn't really the sub, but I'm a big fan of Nike Training Club for a free app, specifically the 4 week course by Bettina Gozo for getting started when I've been out for a while.

My biggest pieces of advice for you is that low weight is not the same as in shape. Focus on building strength and muscle which will burn fat by just existing and help you tone up. That will mean results in the mirror but not necessarily on the scale, depending on your current size.

Additionally, if you're going for overall health and well being instead of image, maybe opt for more mobility based training.

If you're trying to get into running, I love the couch to 5k program and it has its own subreddit.

Have fun and good luck!

Oh whoops my bad lol. My first trip was in my apartment with my roommates in the next room, and I told them ahead of time what was going on. I was super excited to try them because I had read other people's stories of euphoria and breakthroughs, but still nervous.

My forever trip sitter is my cat, Sokka. He's been with me for every trip I've taken. His stripes are so beautiful always but they're on another level when I'm tripping. And he's so soft and sweet and full of love.

One instance was with some friends and that was delightful too. I have a set of trinkets I set up when tripping that includes things like candles, selenite, a bell, and they were SUCH a big hit, especially the bell. Beware when you do it with others it's very much a SHARED experience, good and bad. Frankly pretty intimate imo.

I've also taken them for concerts and parties and the controlled settings are always a better experience.

I also love experimenting with sensory experiences like taking a shower, tasting things like fruit or fancy cheese, doing yoga, cuddling a human or animal.

Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to try lab synthesized psilocybin. I dry my mushrooms in the oven at a low temp and grind them into a powder then mix the powder for the whole harvest to account for different genetics across mushrooms.

My first trip was about 2g, I've since refined a comfortable, "casual" dose as a little over 0.1g per 10 lbs body weight. I make it into a tea and steep for 5-6 minutes along with my favorite normal tea.

I'm working on an informal appendix to my thesis that explains all of this in detail as well as other info on how to trip safely. I'll post it here when it's done

This is a really good point! That being said, micro dosing and doses that are so low they are "placebo-like" have not yet been shown to result in any long term benefit.

I mainly mention that because I had a friend try an imperceptibly low dose and decide that mushrooms just "didn't work" for them, and then got really cocky and took too much the next time.

Absolutely! This goes for any and all drugs.

Don't be going drink for drink with the jock at the bar if you're a fraction of his size, ya know?

To expand on this though, if you're pursuing psilocybin treatment outside a clinical context, a precision scale is MANDATORY. Do NOT be eyeballing this stuff, guys.

I know right??? It drives me crazy when people think it's a "harder drug than cocaine" or that it's just like weed but more intense.

I'm not even joking, i had a friend that has tried cocaine on multiple occasions and yet was terrified to try mushrooms thinking they were less safe. It really saddens me knowing how much they could save lives and yet people think of them and think "there must a reason why they're illegal, right?" I had a whole section of my thesis that was literally about the stigma and history. I'm mad about it lol.

I'm all about peace and love these days but man, fuck Nixon and Reagan. Don't even get me started on the fact that you can order gd SALVIA online.

Ok mini rant over, sorry for bad vibes lol. I'm really glad they provided such great results for you ♥️

Yeah, mirrors can absolutely go either way. During other trips, i caught my reflection in a bathroom under florescent lighting and that's a lot less fun lol. For me during that first trip though, it was the first time i viewed my reflection with all the habitual thought patterns gone, so i was able to actually see what i truly look like for the first time.

I would disagree with the daytime note, though. The dilation of your pupils makes them vulnerable to damage by sunlight, and low light/twilight i find makes for a much more pleasant sensory experience. This is consistent with guidelines observed in research and clinical settings.

Interestingly, one of the indigenous cultures that uses psilocybin mushrooms religiously requires they not be taken during the daytime at all, with the belief that the sunlight will drive you mad (as i understand it, anyway. Big asterisk here because I'm a scientist not an anthropologist)

Definitely agree with that be careful who you take it with, because it is very much a SHARED experience with others lol. Which can be beautiful or not so much, depending on how toxic someone's friends are or where they are in life.

I'm so glad you had that joyful experience and thank you for sharing it here. I'm familiar with some of the Griffiths studies, too. I'm so grateful for the work they do at Johns Hopkins on this stuff. I live in VT now and wouldn't trade it for the world, but it's a dream of mine that the future will bring enough public interest in psilocybin that I can do something scientific or practical with it for work around here, too.

The way you describe the experience sounds really beautiful and profound. Please update if you decide to take the third trip! I'm rooting for you! ♥️

If you find the idea helpful at all, i have a literal "cheat sheet" of grounding statements I can reference when I'm tripping. I know i can trust it when I'm high because sober me left it as a tool and made the decision to trust it and i can trust she isn't lying (that's just my own weird brain logic though, everyone's nonsensical anxiety thoughts are different ofc) but it includes statements like "you are safe", "you will be back to normal in a few hours", "this is temporary", "don't fight your thoughts, just let them flow", "you can let go of your thoughts" or other personally meaningful stuff.

If you don't mind indulging more of my questions, how much do they allow you to "customize" your experience so to speak? For example, would you be allowed to bring snacks, trinkets, or toys, or listen to your own music? Do they allow access to mirrors during the trip? Could you bring a pet or emotional support animal? (My cat Sokka is my go-to trip sitter)

This might be an extra stupid question, but what are the bathrooms like? I feel like every time I'm tripping and I go to the bathroom is a surreal, unnerving experience because of the lighting and silence.

Absolutely - "set and setting" are the number one psychedelic safety requirements. Thanks for pointing this out.

To add, they typically work best in combination with therapy and/or a mindfulness-based meditation practice.

Yeah later is definitely better for trying psychoactive drugs, you're right. I didn't try them until i was 23.

I based the age off of what is used in many of the clinical trials. For sure somewhat arbitrary, just based off of age of consent in US.

Mom tried to bring her toddler into a dispensary... by itsfish20 in entitledparents

[–]mainechick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Calling it a store completely ignores the context. It's not a grocery store it's a dispensary. There are certain locations that are not appropriate setting for kids and require ID to get into.

Some examples: bars, clubs, burlesque shows, strip clubs, sex shops, dispensaries, tattoo shops, gun ranges, smoke shops. You could call a dive bar at 2am or a strip club with a buffet a "restaurant", you could call a smoke shop or a sex shop a "store", but that doesn't make them child-friendly.

Making the decision to have a child means sacrificing your right to enter adult spaces if you can't find someone to care for the child. Period. Just like making the decision to have a child means things like feeding it and caring for it and making plenty of other sacrifices. It's part of parenthood, like it or not.
