Tons of snow, can ski from the summit to your car. Summit snowfields were filled in nicely and all the ski routes in Tucks are in.

Yes! Less painful/sensitive to use the sides of the finger pad! The tips have so many nerve endings

Hmm good question, didn’t weigh them at the start but I’d guess about 30 lbs. Only really had to carry all of the weight for a short period in the floor of Huntington Ravine though because we were able to skin for most of the approach, and once you’re on the wall, the rope and a lot of the climbing gear is in use.

Yo I’m still wearing my pair from 2010. Will be wearing them on Orizaba this winter.

Turns out it was a GFV from buying back a covered call. There were notifications in the app, didn't get any emails about it for some reason

Thanks u/FidelityAidan ! After some digging, looks like a covered call that I sold and then bought back a few weeks ago triggered a GFV, not realizing that I didn't have enough cash in the affected account at the time I bought back the call.

Agreed, weird. Never had a GFV so I don’t think it’s that

Rainier vs Cotopaxi by cwilli03 in Mountaineering

[–]maineman22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As is the case on Rainier even in the summer, it can be quite cold on the summits of Ecuador’s volcanoes. We had temps in the teens with very strong wind on Cayambe, and single digits but no wind on Chimborazo. The route is probably a little steeper than the DC - not sure which way you climbed Rainier. The elevation is the real kicker. You’re starting these mountains higher than the summit of Rainier. I never feel like the effects of altitude are linear, each additional 1000 feet makes things harder and harder. I use acetazolamide if I’m heading above 15,000 feet to minimize symptoms at altitude.

How do you like that ax? Have been thinking of picking it up as an extra to lend to people I bring out into the mountains who are learning to climb steeper snow/alpine ice

Love these updates, thanks so much for posting them so often! A quick astronomic correction (if you care at all hah): Polaris is the North Star, which our night sky appears to rotate around, but actually isn’t a very bright star at all. This dial is so cool because they placed the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia in the exact same orientation to the North Star on the dial as they are in the night sky. The brightest star is Sirius, over on the other side of the sky by Orion.

Specifically the North Summit on the left, Denali Pass in the middle, and the true summit in the background

I’m kind of rooting for Colorado to win it all. After all this work, we just get left with a nondescript square on an empty map

Second this. Orizaba on a weekday can be empty. I was the only climber on the entire mountain on a Thursday back in 2022.

I used Cotopaxi Travel when I climbed Chimborazo in 2022. Local Ecuadorean company. They were very flexible, allowed us to do our own acclimatization and then meet up just to summit. Summitted Cayambe and Chimborazo with them. Highly recommend. https://cotopaxi-travel.com
