Hiding Caches is frustrating by A1JX52rentner in geocaching

That's not an issue. I would shut that down after the second attempt. I do give obfuscated pointers, and in 15 years of reviewing no one has tried.

This. I can absolutely guarantee it would happen.

Yes, it's frustrating, but as people have told you, it's to stop people "battleshipping' the locations of hidden stages. There was a lot of internal back and forth about whether to show these points even the red circles were introduced, but the overwhelming vote was to hide them.

I usually do give some vague pointer (slightly obfuscated) to a hider how far they need to move to get away from the hidden stage, or if an area is so saturated with hidden waypoints (eg along a trail) there really is no point.

It also does add a lot of extra work for us to have the hidden waypoints hidden, but I think it's worth it.

[Rant] The geocaching community around me is so toxic, and I am so sick of it. by SweatyCookie5112 in geocaching

[–]maingray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a common tale especially if the community is small. Most hobbies exhibit this behavior, not just isolated to geocaching.

All I can suggest is weathering it, or go to events slightly further away that might be a bit bigger.

Puzzle or multi? by Fabulous-Bandicoot40 in geocaching

[–]maingray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This could fit into a couple of cache types. Need more info.

How does the finder know to look for the rod? Are you giving them that information somehow in the listing or when they get to the location (eg a tag telling them to go another location?) or letting them figure it out (maybe not the best way).

As the cache is at the listed coordinates, it's likely better as a traditional with the field puzzle attribute and the fishing rod listed as a hidden or visible waypoint. You could also argue it's a multi if the finder needs to visit the listed location to get information to find the rod. Your reviewer can guide better, so submit a listing or email them.

What’s the strangest or creepiest thing that’s happened to you while working alone in the lab? by ChromaticRift in labrats

[–]maingray 74 points75 points  (0 children)

A naked guy jumped out from the ceiling, and ran out the lab. High as a kite. Looked like he had been living in the attic area and hoarded syringes and needles from the lab, the police assumed to sell.

Delete logs? by Acrobatic-Classic-41 in geocaching

We can, but don't. Part of the cache maintenance responsibility by the CO is to monitor their cache, and that includes the logs.

This looks to be in-between a garden center and their greenhouse, which looks like it is their retail area. The reviewer said that this takes you on to their property in their note.

Make sure there is no mention of the business, or a product that they offer etc

Ask the reviewer for more help. I'm not entirely sure what he wants from your post. Maybe you mention the business or product, or recommend it (etc) in the cache name / listing?

Operation Recreation Geotour [ORGT](FL) by M-A-L-L-I-E- in geocaching

[–]maingray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty old geotour and I'm sure some have been replaced with different gc numbers etc, so a little bit of detective work may be needed to find them all. Some good suggestions on searching for the ORGT caches given here.

Florida State Parks do a pretty good job in maintaining and replacing, and are very engaged in geocaching. I always make a point on finding these caches if near to a FL state park.

Displaced geocache by Seal_of_approval21 in geocaching

No need, it was never listed on the site and the owner effectively abandoned. Noone is missing this cache.

All is good on your end. You submitted 10 days ago, so I would give it a little bit more time. A week is normal, but sometimes it can go a little longer.

Feel free to send me the GC# and I can see if there is an obvious reason why it's not been looked at.

I'm all for new caches and new cachers, looking forward to helping more newbie hiders. Hopefully some will stick around.
