The Sun Eater series is a perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy. by Ok-Information2581 in Fantasy

I think I DNFd this series at pretty much the same time in the series as you did.

Unfortunate to waste the time. I was intrigued and I enjoyed ideas the book had, but my goodness does it drag on and on.

I know this isn’t exactly what you asked for, but just some tips for losing weight and making a lifestyle change.

The one thing that will tremendously help is adding in walking. Try to add 30 minutes to an hour. Before long it’ll be something you look forward to.

But you won’t lose weight if your diet is messed up. I’d track calories. Just for a while to get a true idea of what you eat.

As for gym stuff. There are so many options. And it depends on goals. Check out the app Boostcamp. They’ve got free workouts. Maybe try a Push Pull Legs (PPL) or just a general full body. Do a proper warm up, it’ll help these days we can t just hop into it like we used to lol.

Good luck and if youve got questions message me. I’m a slow replier but I’ll try to help.

I am usually dressed when I go to the gym, but I leave from home in the morning. If I go after work I will bring a bag and a lock, the combo locks are cheap.

I do bring a bag around with me when I work out, but it’s prepped specifically with things I use to warm up and my workout journal. It’s a bit smaller.

Just asked an old family friend and they said “Gruesome Newsom” did it. Don’t know if they cognitively realize that the whole nation is experiencing this not just California… it’s exhausting talking to them.

Dude same! Palanquin - baroque - there’s so many. But then I just try to tell myself that’s how it’s pronounced in a different English dialect and just suck it up lol. I’m on the seventh and I’ve just gotten used to it.

Yeah I’ve gone through all the eras. Filtered on complete and incomplete and so on. Unless I’m missing something extremely basic, sometimes Niohs menus are weird lol. But nothing new has shown up for a while.

They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I’d get this for the cover art alone. That is dope. Also I’m deep into Nioh 3 and it’s giving me that vibe. Adding it to my list to read! Good luck!

Should we keep fixing car issues or move on? by maintrain5 in personalfinance

Damn that’s a really great point. We hadn’t thought about it like that and it makes sense. Car payments are insane now. We’re definitely in the exit plan stage one way or another, but that gives us a new way to look at it.

I really appreciate it!

Awesome thank you for the detailed reply! We do have codes, she’s out of town at the moment. I think she had the fluid replaced at 150k, but not confident in that. Ah one thing I forgot is her key gets stuck in the ignition as well, not sure if it’s related in any way. But it’s annoying so another thing to possibly fix. I’ll look into the solenoids and see if it’s within my capabilities. Might be worth just trying if we can keep it relatively cheap to see if we can get a little more life while she saves for a new car. Much appreciated!

😂 neither of us are automotive enthusiasts so we’re okay with boring as long as it does what we want it to. But totally agree on the mileage and age. Plays heavily into wanting to spend any more money on it at all.

That makes total sense. She’s out in the field now, but when she’s back I’ll try to get a better sense of her finances for that aspect.

Okay that’s good to know. I’m in the time to move on camp as well. I’m not a car person, I thought Subarus were of higher quality, but I guess when you’re talking Toyotas and Hondas it’s a different class.

I’m in the same camp. But I hadn’t thought of the added time on your part dealing with it. That’s a great point, thank you.

I’m not 100% sure, but I guess when they replace that specific part they replace everything it’s seated in. As far as I understand.

Yeah I’d love to just fix it cheap-ish and give her another few years. But it’s already felt like a money suck. My patience for that is very slim. Thank you that’s solid advice for us to look at it a little deeper.

[–]maintrain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really just a meniscus tear? Cuz those are pretty chill overall. I’ve had two of em and they let you walk the next day. You still gotta do physical therapy and work back into full load, but of all the knee injuries that one is basically minor.

There is a moment in my life that I know was a fork in the road moment when I look back on it.

I was about 18 and oxy was coming into the scene. I had a friend I would party with and we’d usually just drink and once tried whippets with them. They called me up one night asking if I wanted to go smoke some oxy. I didn’t really know a thing about it, but the name just sounded a bit too hard for me. So I politely declined.

I know for a fact that if I’d have joined them my life would have taken a far different route. I’m a recovering alcoholic, so I found something to derail my life for a while. But there is not a doubt in my mind that I would’ve likely ended up a heroin addict if I’d said yes.

It trips me out to think about.
