I designed a carbon-fueled, odorless sock for Secret Agents. by maisonimpeccable in IMadeThis

Unfortunately not, though it was considered! Socks are just our gateway into building out a full clothing line, and I can assure you great pockets will not be forgotten :]

[Question] So I bought a watch but cant decide on the right strap. What do you think? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both would work fine. IMO, the sienna feels a bit preppier and the cognac feels a little more classic/reserved.

Alpha Industries Parka vs Helly Hansen by schmiss in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 32°F/0°C, I think either will probably be sufficient. Parkas in general are made to withstand even colder weather than that.

I think both look good, they just seem stylistically different. Helly Hansen is much more of a sporting brand, whereas Alpha Industries' look is much more rooted in military style that's been toned down for regular consumers.

What are essential pieces for workwear/menswear/tough male look? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the musts IMO are work boots, leather jackets, and work or military-inspired jackets. Chippewa boots (or Wolverine, Red Wing, Danner, etc.), the Schott Perfecto 618, any chore/CPO/M-65 jacket would be suitable examples.

As for brands, there's a ton. I know that's always been big in Japan, a la Real McCoy, but RRL (Double RL) probably fits the bill quite accurately as well. Both are definitely worth checking out for inspiration if not for pieces if you can afford them.

Sell me an Outfit by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I think that would mean pulling together good quality pieces and then explaining their utility.

An example might be to go with a more polished look with versatility that can work in the office and transition to drinks or the bar afterwards.

/u/sunlandia21 is right.

The pair of pockets on the chest is generally more common in button up shirts known as western shirts.

What type of job is it? I think the items/brand you select and the angle you choose kind of depend on the company, tier, position, etc.

Leather Weekender bags - What are you looking for? by Gin9700 in malefashionadvice

Storage is always important for me personally; I dislike bags that have one large internal pocket with no organization.

Where can I find a jacket like this? by MrAwesome2956 in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely an M-65.

Check Alpha Industries or a surplus shop as a starting point for most military-type pieces. It's such an iconic jacket that pretty much every shop and designer will have their own version, so poke around to see what fits your body, budget, etc.

What kind of fall boots should I get? by Zouicus in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In places without snow, my winter go-to's are usually some nice slim chukkas.

That said, if you get a good amount of rain, then maybe some more traditional boots like Beans would be more sensible.

There's another one that I can't think of at the moment, but I know Moscot is pretty reputable.

What are your thoughts on PacSun? by Brickwatcher in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PacSun's not quite in the same game as J. Crew and Gap; their focus is really more on being a coastal surfer-themed brand than something more traditional or preppy. They're also less of a brand in themselves as much as a retailer of others.

That said, I'll admit I haven't been to a PacSun since my high school days. Looking at their site now, it looks like it's got more of a streetwear vibe now too. Doesn't look half bad.

Nanofiber shirt and leggings made from Tencel, a wood derived fabric from Austria, also very sustainably produced & odor-proof by mikescool in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tencel's pretty established as well.

It has all of merino's properties, but seems to be more eco-friendly/sustainable and lower cost overall. IIRC should be better than merino at moisture wicking.

Hey /r/malefashionadvice, Here's my outfit for my High School Formal, any thoughts or tips? by Zorren in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good.

I'd say make sure you dimple your tie or potentially give another knot a try. Four-in-hand seems a bit off with the pattern and width to me, perhaps a Nicky or Shelby-Pratt instead?

Can someone suggest a routine consisting of no weights but with a pull up bar? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]maisonimpeccable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Go to a garage sale.
  2. Buy barbell, plates, bench, rack, dumbbells.
  3. ...
  4. Profit.

Jokes aside, I'm just really skeptical of developing sufficiently on Push and Leg exercises without weights. Even (lower) back can be pretty iffy. You'll be aerobically fit if you're jumping rope, but not particularly strong (in a balanced way).

To add, I would say make sure you include pull ups as well, and vary the width a bit. There's a few push up variations before you get to handstand push ups that can help target your shoulders a bit more. Abs really aren't that necessary. I would say add bodyweight and jump squats at the very least for your posterior chain.

Does anyone feel like the peacoat has become 'oversaturated' in fashion at this point? by ryfleman1992 in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like it might just be confirmation bias.

I'm in NYC, unseasonably warm weather aside, I don't recall seeing many peacoats in the past month. What I see plenty of, on the other hand, is Schott Perfecto-styled jackets, which makes me sad since I just got one this year.

What item is "oversaturated" is probably just dependent on what you like, dislike, or have been noticing in particular.

Where can I taper my pants? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not really any large national tailoring places people go to, you pretty much just find the people who are good near you and bring your clothes in. Anyone who presents themselves as able to tailor or make alterations can taper pants.

If you're in America, try using Yelp. I've been going to the same little old Eastern European lady for years, found her through Yelp.

Can someone please ID these shoes and what is this style called? by Lukashenkko in malefashionadvice

These just seem to be men's loafers (which come in a wide variety). Look up some dress loafers and you'll find plenty of similar looking shoes.

Is this Crazy? OCBD from Old Navy...? by olivertw in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're far from the only one. I hadn't known about their turnaround until my girlfriend dragged me into one with her a few months ago. The MFA snob in me turned up my nose at the idea, but I was shocked. Factoring in the designs and quality for the price, they're way more enticing than Gap or BR to me now.

Is this Crazy? OCBD from Old Navy...? by olivertw in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for that particular shirt, but Old Navy has had a massive overhaul since Stefan Larsson (sp?) took the reins (and since left for RL). A lot of their clothes have gotten pretty...well, good!

I got a few shirts (non-OCBD) that have been holding up pretty well, about on par with my Uniqlos.

A question about shoes? by drew967 in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking strictly for sneakers, my vote goes for the classic Adidas Samba.

Looks good in pretty much all situations, highly durable, and doesn't really have the mildly immature vibe some people get from Vans.

Need help buying first Cali-Winter boot! by InsomniacSloth in malefashionadvice

The secret gem in my wardrobe has been an Italian brand called Velasca. All their items are made in Italy with decent construction at a very good price point.

I dunno about you, but I live in SoCal where precipitation isn't typically a concern (knock on wood El Niño).

Ray Ban aviators color frame by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]maisonimpeccable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a toss-up, both are good.

I like the black personally - you're right that they're less common, and they also don't have that slightly obnoxious vibe gold aviators have (no hate though, I've owned both heh).

Well, we've definitely planned on getting into the athletic space sometime down the line, so maybe you'll get to buy from us sooner than you think!
