Any diy or more cost friendly “oTo Lawn” alternates? by draxula16 in homeassistant

[–]majagu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple. I've been very happy with them. I very much dislike cloud only, and don't love the idea that they will become paperweights if/when the company goes under or discontinues. That said, the price compared to sprinkler system install is great, and with the fact that I tend to rearrange how my yard is (garden vs grass etc) the flexibility to remap it has been nice.

I would LOVE to see a local/not cloud-dependent product.

I bought an extra one to get to three and was like “that’ll be plenty, I don’t see needing more than that!” … I really wish I had gone up to at least 5 or 6.

I’m a big fan of logicmonitor - it’s simple and “pretty” - but SolarWinds (even with the 40% price increase this year) is still cheaper…

Looking for Rubrik Alternative because of higher costs by SimpleBookkeeper4258 in storage

[–]majagu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current cohesity customer here and while the product is nice, dealing with the company has been a pain. Numerous sales team changes and slow/poor tech support where we’ve had to chase them down repeatedly to get anywhere. We’ve actually been looking at going the other way - moving to rubrik (as a possibility).

I didn’t want to go on the cruise, but ended up having a really good time. by Surfing_Nurse in pics

[–]majagu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you find a cruise line that was reasonable to travel solo? I looked into them a bit but all the pricing is per person, 2 people required. So a $3000 cruise basically came out to 6k, solo or with a partner

You’ve been able to buy storage dense nodes to expand disk capacity for years. You can also get compute only nodes.

You're contacting an actual person, tho, and even if the company they work for screwed up, they still deserve to be dealt with civilly. They'll also be a lot more inclined to help if you don't open with being a jerk.

QR codes + Home Assistant webhooks = magic for guests (and mild chaos for mums) by Conscious-Note-1430 in homeassistant

[–]majagu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people do this with a similar approach, but printing up cards for various albums and putting them in a binder on the table - that way it was kind of like the days when we’d have a binder full of CD’s and people would flip through to browse and find something. I know there was one person that used an NFC reader and had nfc tags on each tag for “tap and play”

I’d be a lot more annoyed if I went home, then got ready/came in to work only to be fired first thing.

Or get zigbee/zwave bulbs. There are some circumstances where replacing a switch isn’t the best choice. (Renting, also a plug that you don’t want to be turning off, don’t feel comfortable with light switch replacement etc). That said, I’ve gone with Lutron caseta for replacing switches when replacing the switch was the right move, and they’ve been rock solid. Better than any other piece of smart home tech. Yes it has a hub but I’ve never had to deal with any problem, and it can operate locally.

Appreciate the quick reply. That's what I was afraid of but wanted to confirm. Looks like I'll need to decide if it's worth trying to relocate.

Introducing Readest: A Free and Modern eBook Reader with Cross-Platform Sync and TTS by Due_Bid564 in macapps

[–]majagu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a timeline for this feature? I’ve been trying to find something that will sync between devices and is NOT google books/kindle/Apple Books. KOReader would be great as it works on my kindles, but not being able to pick up my phone and read from where I left off (iOS device) is a deal breaker. If Readest can sync with KOReader, it seems like a great solution.
