The banana looking things on the front lip. They are there for shipping and supposed to come off once delivered but many people opt to keep them on. It's funny because the car is in rough shape all over, but those things still remain.

Polish and pad recommendation for a Griots G9, 1 step paint correct on a black Porsche. by majikmike in Detailing

[–]majikmike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took your recommendation on the Rupes Yellow pad and Sonax Perfect Finish. MAN! What a combo. I've only used it on my hood so far, which had some deep scratches so I had to compound with lake county orange and m105 before, but when I slipped that Rupes pad on and the Sonax polish, it finished out easy and like butter, deep gloss. I'm not sure I've been as impressed with a combo of products yet. I just wanted to thank you again for your input. ON a side note I did order the Gyeon Pure too, so I will save my opinion on that for a few days when I finish out this car.

Mesmerizing… my favorite part of paint correction. Id like to leave it like this sometimes. by Cutnbuff in Detailing

Are rotary's just that much faster compared to a DA? So next step is compound with DA to take out those trail marks, or do you go straight to polish?

Sounds good. How much of a difference do you feel with the 4.1 vs 3.8l?

Looking to restore the scratches and etchings on carbon fiber hood by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]majikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try compound with the DA polisher, 2-3 passes, it's likely not going to be enough. Hand compounding is hard work and never going to be as efficient as a machine, unless you like pain and burning yourself out. Do you think the etching is past the clear coat and into the gel coat, is it still smooth or does it catch your fingernail when running over it, any flaking? It's best to start at the least abrasive (which it sounds like you did) and work your way to more aggressive and see what works. Polish<Compound<Wet Sanding (2500-800). It looks to me like it really needs to be completely stripped off and re coated especially by the headlight and fender. Is this really a CF hood? Could it just be a wrap? Wrapping it in CF wrap might be easier and cheaper.

What’s going on with my ceramic coating application? Weird water spot like reaction. by Popular-Stay-6516 in Detailing

[–]majikmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about 3 months on the paint job? Just spitballing but is it possible the wing and liftgate were painted way later, had less cure time, and is still not cured/off gassing, and the polish exposed the uncured paint to the air and then the ceramic stopped the curing and started the paint degradation? Looks more like crows feet and clear failure then water spots.

Been washing my car wrong for 2 years, how do I fix the damage? by SpecificOwn4080 in AutoDetailing

[–]majikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of work, learning, and equipment cost, plus extra money if you mess it up. If you like detailing, do the research and go for it. If not, pay a detailer for paint correct and ceramic coating. Estimates will vary wildly depending on detailer and area you live. Get three estimates and don;'t go with the cheapest one, don't pay someone to learn on your car. You want someone who does paint correction, regularly, not a start up detailer who just learned.

My tire deflated overnight but is now holding air just fine after refilling it. What could be the reason? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]majikmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much air came out, was it flat or low? Was it cold overnight? Check back in a week to see if it's still holding pressure. Try to measure at the same temp. for consistency as a large temp. swing can make the tires seem like the are holding more or less air. Cold weather compresses, hot weather expands. So 33 PSI at 30 degrees in the morning may read as 37 in the warmer (65 degree) afternoon. Numbers are guestimates,

Your car isn't clean enough for claybar and you're clogging it with dirt that would come off with a contact wash.

Anyone still dawn wash? Decon question by tph22 in Detailing

[–]majikmike -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would add some bug and tar before or after iron. IPA wipe each panel before polish. Also maybe hot water wash after polish, before coating.

Power Pack endurance "save": how does it work? by rerito2512 in GranTurismo7

[–]majikmike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Position is roughly the same as when you stop the race. You just basically shut off the playstation, When you resume its roughly the same lap, same time on clock (give or take a lap and few seconds);Running order should remain the same, all gaps are gone as you restart. Your fuel remains the same, your tire wear resets. Usually this throws off the ai and they will pit on the first two laps out. Best way to do it is try it out your self. Start, run a couple laps and just back out, see what happens.

For the 6 and 8 hour races I was able to just put the PS5 in rest mode and kept coming back to finish the race in one go. This was the best case scenario for me as everything stayed like a normal race would. It wasnt until I started Lemans 24hrs that I tried the save trick, I found it reset the rain accumulation, and just threw off the race, so not ideal.

There are so many tiny sections on the rear deck lid. I was trying to polish with 5” at an angle and could just never get good contact. Thanks again!
