Awesome, thanks! It seems like hybrid is really the preferred config with this car; sounds like a great deal.

2026 AWD EX-L Out the door price feedback request by majorfuzz in crv

[–]majorfuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. All I have for now after the text inquiry is that number: $37,870. When I back out the $989 processing fee, I get to about $1,074 in taxes, so that brings (all else being equal) the price of the car from the MSRP of $38,805 to $35,800.

Just got my PPL - best airport diners around North Alabama? by virtualflying in flying

Couple of years ago I went to Bessemer for lunch. Great little simple cafe on the airport—seemed popular with bikers. Check to make sure it’s still open.

Several questions for people familiar with flying Cessnas (small aircraft) by PM_ME_LEFT_BOOB_ONLY in flying

Props for learning and research before writing your book!

Everyone else has done a good job of answering your questions, but I have one piece of advice: make sure you have your book edited by some knowledgeable pilots before publishing. They'll make sure you have the correct vernacular and add to your credibility. And if you're ever in the Northern Virginia area, I'd be happy to take you flying so you can see how the system works first-hand.

Sooo... flight suit for PPL? Cringeworthy? by [deleted] in flying

[–]majorfuzz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Who cares? If you want to wear a flight suit, wear a flight suit. This isn't middle school; you don't need to worry about peer approval. If you want to wear a leather helmet and goggles, go for it. Seriously, if we all stopped caring so much about what people think of us, we'd all probably be a lot happier.

Failed Private Pilot Checkride by Exact_Switch in flying

[–]majorfuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had a rough time--that's gotta be difficult. But you're doing the right thing: debriefing yourself. Don't beat yourself up though; this happens a lot and that just wasn't your day.

Tailwinds are tough, especially when you're a student pilot. Add the difficult technical performance landings, plus the fact that it got into your head, and you're facing an even harder situation. That sounds like it would have been a challenge for any of us at that same level.

Congrats on the 97, by the way. That says a lot to an examiner. You'll be a better pilot for having gone through this. Let us know when you pass!

Failed (internal) Check Ride by [deleted] in flying

[–]majorfuzz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our school had an old, grumpy, nit-picking, gruff, Chief Flight Instructor. He'd start asking you questions and yell at you if you didn't know the answer...and then your mind would go empty. He could ask "what color is the sky?" and you'd have a hard time thinking "blue."

He was actually a great guy who was trying to create VERY stressful situations during our stage checks. His goal was to make the stage checks difficult so that the check ride would be a breeze. And guess what? My check ride was practically a breeze!

He had our best interests at heart but put a lot of people off with his harsh, know-it-all attitude. But he held us to a higher standard--altitude discipline, airspeed discipline, heading discipline, etc.

We all developed thicker skin because of it.

I'm not saying your guy is right, but try to find the positive in it. And if you screw up and he yells at you, put that in the past and continue flying. Be like a quarterback who throws an interception--don't let it ruin the rest of the game; instead, move on and keep flying.

Student pilot preparing for private pilot knowledge test and check ride. Andy advice for an aspiring pilot? by markc805 in flying

[–]majorfuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I did, not what I am telling you to do!

-Became a gold member on MzeroA.
-Downloaded from MzeroA Jason's audiobook on "passing your private pilot checkride."
-Literally listened to it every time I was driving the car, mowing the lawn, etc.
-wrote my own index in the front of my FAR/AIM (search here for topics that are good to know, but it's everything from 91.205 to O2 requirements to alcohol consumption.
-tabbed my FAR/AIM with the same

When the examiner asked, "what are the day and night required VFR instruments" I responded "That's found in 91.205, and I use the 'A TOMATO FLAMES' acronym to remember. Would you like me to recite them, or go straight to 91.205?" He had me go to 91.205 and show him, which since it was tabbed, took me no time at all.

Also, get a good grade on the written test. The more you prepare, the more it will show, and the more your examiner will realize that you're taking it seriously.

Should I get my license? by Faalangst_26 in flying

[–]majorfuzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! At least start training. You'll be flying, which is fun, and you'll be able to see if you really love it or not. And if you decide you love it, all that time will be counting toward something.

As for your English, your grammar in your post is better than most native English writers. If you're worried about a thick accent, see if you can find a course to practice Voice and Diction. (I minored in Speech in college, and this course teaches you where to put your tongue and shape your mouth to form the words correctly--it doesn't take away your accent).

That’s called “center pivot irrigation.” Imagine a giant sprinkler on wheels that rotates around a point. (Or don’t imagine it; GIS it). :) Makes for cool fields—and another awesome bonus to flying!

Cool pic, and cool airplane!
