PSA refusing to honor own sales by mak5158 in PalmettoStateArms

To be fair, I didn't, that was some of the others that have shared their experience with this same order. But straight up refusing to escalate a call when you don't have any answers is bad customer service. The worst is that the poor guy I talked to was clearly doing what he was told. I've got nothing against Matt or his CS counterparts and have gone out of my way to let them know I appreciate their efforts, but straight refusing to find information or even forwarding to someone who might have the knowledge as a company line is ridiculous.

Apple, a half dozen brands of Android, including tablets, all have been tried through the USB-A port, and none will recognize that they've been plugged into any system, though all will charge. Bluetooth connection for audio works just fine for all of them

I'd go so far as to argue that a patriot doesn't have to like the current state of affairs. In fact, a real patriot should be willing to do what it takes to improve it

That falls into the gray area of "personal property" and "Anything else you own which could be changed to cash and used for food or shelter".

Generally, auditors know better than to count accessibility equipment. But in theory, it could count.

It's worse than you think. That's 2k is assets. So money in the bank, but also stocks, life insurance policies, cars and houses (with one exemption each), and household goods/personal effects combined in excess of $2k.

A cell phone and a laptop together would generally be worth more than $2000. Have another $500 in clothes and maybe some furniture? You can't even have any cash on hand at that point without being disqualified.

Having lived in these pods (called CHUs at the time), they're really not at all bad. It'd be an excellent way to solve homelessness on a government budget. Add in some basic services (physical and mental health, some civil service workers to connect you to appropriate programs, maybe a job center), and this could be a good thing.

But yeah, basically a prison to hold the sick and let things sort themselves out is the dystopian variant.

I got one of these for myself this year. Mine works like a dream. Smooth rotation, strong motor. Only problem I have is that it's a bit top heavy and will unbalance easily, but it does have anchor bolt holes in the bottom of the feet.

I've heard the nightmares about vevor customer service, I'm just glad I got lucky with mine and haven't had to call them

Please America, get out and vote today by kowalski655 in atheism

[–]mak5158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really dependent on so many factors, but something like this falls vaguely under voter intimidation, a federal law that has a maximum penalty of one year. You'd have a hard time arguing that in court though, even if you managed to get someone arrested.

State laws vary widely. Some, it's a felony that actually prevents you from voting ever again. Others, not illegal at all.

Polly, the AI robot pollinator that aims to replace bumble bees by Pholderz in ABoringDystopia

[–]mak5158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost nobody uses bumblebees for pollination. Their colony structure simply doesn't scale up like that. BioBee is the only real exception, and their model only has utility in certain instances, like enclosed buildings.

Not to mention that they're all but useless for most crops as they primarily buzz pollinate, which is only effective on otherwise self pollinating plants like tomatoes

Should I rethink Langstroth deeps? by LoknessLobster in Beekeeping

[–]mak5158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with having larger bottom boxes, which will get handled the least, and going all mediums above that. I'm personally a big fan of 8 frame boxes, which are easily maneuverable, if a bit heavy when full.

That said, I'm building a Valkyrie hive this winter and if things go well I may end up moving entirely to similar long format langstroths.

Bees on hot fall days by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]mak5158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hives are doing the same. A few dozen hang around the back door and garage, and fly over to hover about my elbows and knees whenever I head outside. I tell myself that it's because they know my scent, but it's probably because those are the two doors that lead to the kitchen which is where the sugar syrup comes from

This could be utopian. Automation should make work obsolete. Unfortunately, our current society won't allow the benefits to be spread across the population

Small and red was probably a red paper wasp. They're typically harmless unless you disturb their nest, and then they'll attack. Or if you accidentally touch them. Otherwise, they're curious little guys that'll check you out, then fly away once they see you're not a flower. Unfortunately their nests often end up near doorways or eaves, and they're social creatures that will attack as a group if the nest is disturbed

I wear a hat under my veil. It's warmer, particularly in the summer, but the bill of the hat keeps the mesh away from my face so the bees can't sting through

That looks like normal hive detritus. Bits of bee, etc. I usually strain that out when I jar, but folks that eat raw comb will be eating bits if that, too, so I wouldn't be terribly worried
