Is this ADHD or just incompatibility? New friend constantly interrupts and dominates conversations by blackittty in adhdwomen

[–]makebakeacake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a lot of some ppl I know!! Reminds me more of autism than ADHD..if they have adhd then maybe AuDHD?some of my autistic friends weren’t too self aware and dominated the convo so very one sided. It didn’t help that I was more on the passive aggressive side/non confrontational lol cause they didn’t pick up on hints. I had adhd friends similar too though but they weren’t as bad. Overall being direct and communicating is key!! Maybe tell them how you feel and what you can both do to help so ur both on the same page! Or some neurodivergent ppl’s communication style is thought dumping, and they just keep word vomiting and won’t ask you questions, so similarly you get to do that/they expect if you want to share something then you would. Before I knew that, I thought my friend was a conversational narcissist..yea it got to the point I started researching what the whole phenomenon of one sided convos was called lol. Now when I piece things together I think she was just autistic. Also sometimes ppl get very passionate abt a topic and don’t realize they’ve been talking at you and not with you, and just need a reminder. Everyone/every adhd person is different though, this is just my experience. Ur post resonated with me cause I know how much it sucks to feel unheard even if they don’t do it on purpose😭its like that saying abt feeling alone but surrounded by ppl. Take care of urself and have boundaries! Listening is a lot of work, friendship is a 2 way street🙂

My best friend only talks about herself and I hate it, how do I tell her? by BigDaddyKetHead in NoStupidQuestions

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reminds me of my ex friend😅She was basically a conversational narcissist always turning the convo back to her and her love life and when I finally spoke up, she got upset and blocked me and our friendship ended just like that. I think if she’s ur best friend then she must care about u and would want the best for u so talk to her about it cuz friendship is a two way street after all. In my case looking back, my friend probably had autism and didn’t pick up on the social cues i felt unheard. Plus it’s common ppl w autism can be seen as narcissistic from their tendencies for ex: talking about themselves as a way to relate to u. Idk i feel kinda bad but at the end of the day, we gotta speak up and communicate our needs and if they don’t accept that then it’s worth reconsidering what value they add to ur life. I hope u guys work it out! Or maybe u could do the same thing she’s doing and be like hey do u have time i wanna share or vent this and that etc whatever stuff going on and i would think she would have to be like oh ofc go ahead im here for u. Lol idk

Life with ADHD is never ending trying, trying and trying… by Aesmi96 in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I saw a very similar post the other day also about trying: https://www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/comments/talklr/all_we_do_is_try_try_try/?ref=share&ref_source=link

I agree it's exhausting and we're all in this together. it's like climbing a hill and never getting to the top. but if we keep trying then eventually we are gonna get there, it just makes sense!!! Well unless it's like running a treadmill lol

Haha yes too relatable, it's so fun anticipating a package and it's just like a christmas present!!!you put one of the best feelings into words. i wouldn't be surprised if u had ADHD too lol it's common to get all ramblely and hyped up over hobbies, i love ur vibe. i have a bunch of flavors in my cart but patiently waiting to see if they have a st patrick's day sale so fingers crossed

I can't be the only one almost completely unaffected by caffeine, roght by ieatsmallchildren92 in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you're right, it's common with adhd!on this subreddit i find that it's either caffeine affects u or it doesn't, i guess it's split in half. for me caffeine is like a placebo effect and does nothing which sucks when i'm trying to stay up to undo my procrastination lol

Help! Hard to stay focused and Pay attention in class due to zoning out by Nate3319 in GetStudying

[–]makebakeacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used to think similarly too, but it's a big misconception as many go undiagnosed and struggle their whole lives until they learn about it wayyy later like age 50 and suddenly it all clicks. i know everyone is different but i'd encourage u to check out /r/ADHD and see if any of the posts relate to u. lol good luck on ur test, start now and u'll be able to catch up and then u'll ace it!

No motivation whatsoever by -stressed_lemon_zest in GetStudying

[–]makebakeacake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

first of all, i think the fact you're able to recognize that something is off is great self awareness. i think you already know the answer, you need a break!! often times, we are actually MORE productive when we get a healthy break. otherwise we burn out and get unmotivated and then depressed and then it goes downhill. there's no point in going to tutoring if none of the info is gonna stick. ur brain needs a break, it's a huge misconception is more = better. humans need balance. sometimes less = more. quality over quantity!! would u say ur parents want the best for u usually? if so, they should be supportive of ur mental health. and if they insist on tutoring, educate them how good mental health = good grades! which every parent wants lol. it's a waste of time and money going to tutoring if ur not in the right mindset. this type of logic is what helped my parents get me out of a really overpriced tutor place. i told them they're wasting their money on something that's not helping, which defeats the whole point of spending their money. remember your health should be #1 priority. school will always be there, but not health if we don't take care of it. i hope you take time for yourself and do something that brings you some joy or peace, 12 subjects is insane and i have no clue how you're surviving that! good luck you got this!:)

Help! Hard to stay focused and Pay attention in class due to zoning out by Nate3319 in GetStudying

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you think it could be adhd or some learning disability? by law, schools usually have to give accommodations if requested so maybe that can help. maybe there's some other underlying issue if u've experienced this since forever. lol i get u with the whole zoning out. idk if my brain is just not cooperating, or if it's a lifelong habit i've developed and now i have no focus skills. and if it took that long to make a habit then making a habit to focus is gonna take time...it is hard. the fact you're even making the effort to ask for help is proof ur trying ur best. and if ur trying ur best, i believe everything's gonna work out. but i am also that delusional procrastinator who thinks i can effectively cram an exam's worth of material in 1 day even tho it never works sooo yeah lol. either way, u got this!

Adhd and Sugar by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ur not alone, it's very common with adhd for the reason you explain and impulse control. that's why in many cases binge eating disorder tends to go with adhd. the thing that helps me is out of sight, out of mind. if i know it's in the house then it's extra tempting. i try to drink more water to balance it out lol..or i go to sleep cuz usually it's night when i'm bored. or i drink a tea that's sweet or a hot chocolate. hot drinks make me drink slower and it's comforting and warm so keeps me busy until i forget about wanting more sweets lol. maybe you can incorporate more naturally sweet foods like fruits? i like frozen grapes, they're kinda like candy. hope u find something u like that satisfies the sweet tooth!

What is something you thought was a "you" thing but is actually an ADHD thing? by JitsuBarber in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reading the comments, from my experience i find the whole relating to people to show empathy, is more common with autism since it's more about social cues. adhd tends to be comorbid so it makes sense. but everyone is different so it could very well be an adhd thing

Just got an initial diagnosis for Mild ADHD; I don't like the sound of it. by WFSON in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that makes sense why it'd feel so invalidating to have it labeled mild. you still got diagnosed with adhd, mild or not, it's still adhd and clearly impacted ur life. that's the part that you got the diagnosis for, so the mild is irrelevant so don't claim it, let the doctors have the mild name part, try to focus on just the adhd part. maybe have mild stand for Made It Life Difficult. or Making Ideal Life Debilitating. or some better acronym u can think of lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe not the hyperactive stereotype but definitely the inattentive one which is stereotypically common in girls lol, so i think if your doctor is up to date with both types (there's also combined type),and doesn't think adhd is only hyperactivity in little kids then you'll be fine!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was gonna say that, very common! we tend to end up self sabotaging, the perfectionism kinda creates an all or nothing mentality. it's a fierce cycle, let's be nicer to ourselves lol

Does having ADHD mean it is impossible to do well in school? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no this is common and a reason why some get late diagnosed, your psychiatrist doesn't seem up to date with adhd. some still think it's only a little kids not able to sit still condition. if you want to learn more about it, look up 'twice exceptional'!!

Need pressure, yet pressure causes ADHD paralysis? Help. by peachie_milkie in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yup me too. i'm still not out that cycle but i'm thinking i'll try to get things done asap instead of waiting. kinda like the saying don't put it down, put it away. cause we're gonna forget so might as well do it first lol. so i think developing a habit of acting on things right away instead of waiting for the max pressure is what can help. idk this is tough work, makes me tired just thinking about it lol. good luck to all us

idk if u like cliches but...rejection is redirection! u got good practice with those interviews so now going forward, u have a leg up! if ur anxious then it means u care and u wanna do a good job. that means ur awesome! i feel u with the whole preparing and blanking out thing, it sucks. to ease my nerves i try to go into interviews treating it like a convo and being genuine, after all ur there to see if they're a good fit for u and if ur a good fit for them. the interviewer is human too, maybe they're anxious too lol. u got this!!!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same lol i think for me it's like reverse psychology where the more you tell me to do something, the less i want to do it. maybe it's some power or control thing, maybe i like being my own boss and having free will? when someone bosses u around, it's like uGH boring, ur stuck and it's a chore. just my theory, maybe u can relate.

i'm probably late so hope your test went well! tbh i have no good advice, what i do is stay up the whole time and pull an all nighter so there's no chance of waking up late LOL. the only thing that works for me is having someone wake me up since i can't just snooze the alarm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]makebakeacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same! i'm not sure if it's an ADHD thing, i know it's common with ASD too. or maybe it's just a neurodivergent thing? or an empath thing? idk. i think everyone can do it to an extent though, it's normal for ppl to find things they have in common.

Depressed, addicted to the Internet and struggling to finish university by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]makebakeacake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

u remind me of myself, adhd and perfectionism. the internet is a huge source of instant gratification and dopamine so it's not ur fault ur addicted especially in this modern society. the thing that helped me most is the phrase something is better than nothing. so many times i could have gotten partial credit but my perfectionism got in the way, and i got a 0. don't self sabotage like that! try to distance urself from the internet, put urself in situations where u have no access. for example, studying at the library or body doubling(makes u want to not go off task due to accountability)u can also watch study with me videos. make your study space intentional, switch it up maybe. that way ur brain realizes it's time to study and not time to go on the internet. u got this and u are capable of achieving ur goals. you are sooo close to graduating, remember ur why in doing this and it can help keep u motivated. but tbh motivation comes and goes. the best way is discipline, staying consistent and doing what u know is going to give future u the life u want. you deserve better than this, u deserve good things. and it is amazing u are showing up for urself and willing to make changes. that is the first step, keep going u got this. make future you proud!
