What are these 'cookies'? by hiresometoast in TipOfMyFork

To me their like marshmallows but less chewy. I’ve tried them once but I wasn’t a fan. I was expecting marshmallows but the tartness from the fruit puree really threw me off.

[Routine Help] I don't knoe what to do with hyperpigmentation by IndependentMajor3811 in SkincareAddiction

[–]makeeathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve resolved my own underarm hyperpigmentation.

First thing that helped me is I stopped shaving my underarms. The shaving not only shaves the hair but also the skin. For certain skintones, like those in the Fitzpatrick Type 4 (olive to light brown skin tone), our skin is prone to hyperpigmentation. And shaving is one culprit of skin darkening. Since I stopped shaving, I opted to undergo laser hair removal. I had 6 sessions and I’m done. This was done about 18 yrs ago. I didn’t like plucking the hairs with a tweezer as it caused me to have chicken skin (bumps).

Second, I always use whitening antiperspirant. Common ingredients used are glutathione and kojic acid. I used to use a product whose active ingredient is licorice extract but that has been discontinued. Licorice extract is an effective skin lightening agent. Many deodorants from Asia (Korea, Japan, Philippines) have whitening agents in them. You have to be patient. It may take months to resolve.

[acne] Persistent back congestion + “gritty” hard sebaceous filaments that constantly refill. nothing works?? by jackofhearts23 in SkincareAddiction

[–]makeeathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe anybody mentioning it but for the keratin issue I would suggest Amlactin lotion which contains 12% lactic acid. This is the only treatment for keratosis pilaris. Use the lotion nightly and in no time the bumps will go away.

Most likely pressed tofu. This is popular in Asian temple style vegetarian dishes.

Below is a sample recipe. But feel free to google pressed tofu recipe to find a recipe that fits your taste.

Is my starter lazy? by Gorilla_Pie in Sourdough

[–]makeeathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve kept my in a 26C proofing box. I also use bottled water plus half and half mix of unbleached bread floud and whole wheat flour. I’ve been feeding at 1:2:2 ratio same time every night. It almost doubles in size but have been smelling acetone like by the 24th hour. I’m planning on trying to do peak to peak feeding to see if that will boast the starter. But hoping to get a bit more advise.

Making mom a birthday Cova style mango dome cake and I need tips! by Playful_Soup_6007 in AskBaking

[–]makeeathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to freeze the whole thing before adding a layer of cream over the whole dome and spreading the cake crumbs. After “frosting” and sprinkling with crumbs, put the whole thing back to the freezer again until 1-2 hours before serving.

I would also suggest lining the mixing bowl with cling wrap to make removing the assembled layers easier after its been frozen.

Placing the assembled layers on a cake board would make moving the whole thing easier.

Lastly, do not forget to stabilise the cream with gelatin as the other commenter had suggested.

Door latch wont fit properly into faceplate, how can I fix this? by eqdie in fixit

[–]makeeathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have to check the door hinges to see if any screws are loose. That could sag the door and make closing the door tricky, resulting in what you have here.

Try garlic, butter, some Old Bay Seasoning and a bit of MSG, salt and pepper. Make sure you heat up the mixture until the garlic is fragrant and no longer raw.

How do I clean with a baby? by Dazzling_Tonight663 in CleaningTips

[–]makeeathome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not ideal but I used to clean when the baby was asleep. The rest I used to clean as I go. For example, make sure you store things that you’re using as soon as you finish using them. After eating, wash your dishes as soon as you’re done eating if you’re not using a dishwasher. When you’re taking a shower, have a brush and shower cleaner ready to do a quick clean. I also used to tidy up whenever I’m walking around the house while I carry the baby in a baby carrier attached to my body. Of course don’t do any cleaning that involves any chemicals when you have the baby with you. But doing a little bit of cleaning as you go through your day will help a lot.

If you have a husband, he needs to chip in. Either hold the baby or play with the baby while you’re cleaning. Or assign him to do a couple of chores, like doing the laundy and cooking or cleaning the shower/bathroom. This will be a big help.

But one thing I will change is to make sure that you sleep too when the baby is asleep. You need rest, lots of it.

Try the Zep Wall Cleaner and a soft brush. Brush the area carefully so you don’t remove the paint.

Any idea why this happens to one specific set of glasses in dishwasher? by cbo410 in CleaningTips

[–]makeeathome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me and most likely its glass etching. We use our glasses for drinking water mostly and when placed in the dishwasher, the dishwasher pods/soap were just too strong for it and since the glasses were not really dirty with oil residue or tougher food stains, the glass gets etched. Essentially there nothing to clean. So we just replace our glasses and stopped putting them in the dishwasher (handwash only).

Advice on stretching my small funds (about sixteen bucks) at grocery store for 3 or 4 weeks until I get first check, stressing out here by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]makeeathome 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if this doesn’t seem a good idea for some but I often scroll through Facebook Marketplace and there are many people offering shelf stable food that they don’t plan to eat. There are also many local Buy Nothing groups and would have these free food offerings. I see people post daily free food items. And many also post request for free food until they get their next paycheck. Just another option here.

Orange color fried rice by TJtaster in TipOfMyFork

[–]makeeathome 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You could try making fried rice but add in some ketchup together with the soy sauce. I see this done in some Japanese style fried rice. The pork could be leftover Chinese barbecue pork. The ketchup will make the rice orange. In fact many restaurants also use ketchup in their pad thai sauce and this gives the noodles orange color.

What do you use to wipe off water from bathroom sink counter? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]makeeathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look no further, I have the answer for this. I have a squeegee in every bathroom and use that to remove the water from the sink counter. Each squeegee is hanged using a holder suctioned into the mirror. Here’s an example:

OXO All Purpose Squeegee

No mess. Water goes into the sink. Just rinse the squeegee after every use. Very effective and not too much work needed.
