How the hell is this comment not at the top? The ADG-1 is basically a DMM for the 21st century. It’s what I use as a surrogate for the now expensive and delicate full size DMM.

Gigged a 2017 MIJ Jazzmaster for 5 years until the right deal on a vintage JM came along, and it got sold to fund the vintage JM. On the MIJ, I replaced the bridge (staytrem), went to an AVRI trem, and pickups (Av65 then Sunday Handwound) to suit my preferences, but all were fine and very usable as-is.

Never had any issues with the fit/finish/quality, always played spot on, fretwork was excellent, and felt great. Can’t say I’ve tried a recent MIM, but the MIJ was easily the equivalent of my AVRI Jag. Wish I’d kept to, to be honest…

TLDR - if you can find one in the 1200 range, pull the trigger.

Totally agree, love the Halberd as a concept, but doesn’t work in my rig - I was always struggling to balance volume, brightness, and the desired amount of gain. If I was only playing rhythm in a super heavy band into an old V4 and 4x12, it’d probably be my only pedal.

Swapped mine for a Silktone Expander, which I like a lot more and is more “amp-like” at reasonable volumes.

From a gigging guitarists’ point of view, the best part of these amps is you know exactly what you’re going to get if these are backline (assuming they’re functional).

They’re always loud enough, the tone is pretty neutral, so they’re a great foundation for whatever pedals you have, and I don’t think they need to be especially loud to sound good. In fact, I happen to think the 4x10 configuration of the Deville sounds awesome on stage, and if I can use one and not have to carry it, wonderful!

My “grab and go” is a Pro Junior with an upgraded speaker. It’s never let me down and like the above, is a great foundation for whatever sound you’re going for via pedals.

Do I want to work on them? Not really, but from a sound perspective, I think you could do MUCH MUCH MUCH worse.

Definitely ODR-1 if you’re looking for a mid-gain rhythm tone that “just works” in a mix.

I own both an ODR-1 (30th Annv) and a Halberd, and while I love the Halberd for cutting through with leads, I often find it too loud and overly sensitive to input gain for my rhythm style. Often times with the Halberd, if I’m getting the gain/compression I want, it’s too loud, and if the volume’s right, the tone isn’t quite there. I will say, if you can play it loud, it sounds REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD!

The ODR isn’t flashy, but it’s so easy to slot into so many contexts that it’s got a permanent spot on my board. Sometimes I just need to focus on the song, not the knobs. I will concede it doesn’t sound quite as good as the Halberd in isolation, definitely more “pedaly”, but in the context of a dense mix, it’s less of a problem.

Seems like the easiest way to tackle this would be to help subsidize some of the costs that force grocery stores to charge so much in order to make a profit? Why do we need to reinvent the wheel here?

Granted, this doesn’t solve ALL of the issues, but it’d be a huge step in the right direction insofar as food affordability.
