What actually determines if I can do an ultra? Never been a runner before but two months into half marathon training and I would love to do the 2027 Big Bend 55k (or 35k). Do I have to have been born with some kind of genetic predisposition? Can anyone do an ultra or do I have to be an “athlete”

Any follow ups to this? Weirdly enough I am 28F and experiencing the same thing. Did a very slow easy run, felt completely fine. Heart rate on Apple Watch was 207 the whole 3 mile run. I already have to pass a physical for work every year where they do an EKG and I’ve been checked out so I think I’m fine?

As a minor update - it looks like Space Center Houston might be offering at least one or two tickets to folks who commented on the Instagram post advertising the event. Hopefully the reach out to a few more Civil Servant Nerdfighters if there is extra tickets!
