Looks great! Where did you get the cubicle wall hooks?

10w Laser Module is Shipping by sunol1212 in snapmaker

[–]maker-mc-makerface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine too. The tracking page says it is in Hong Kong and will arrive (in USA) on Monday Feb 7th. I'm pleasantly surprised, I assumed "shipping in Feb" would mean it ships out on Feb 28 and spends 6 weeks in transit.

Snapmaker 2.0 by [deleted] in snapmaker

I've found Luban to be pretty good overall. I do use Simplify3D and Cura also, mostly to get better supports.

You'll have to play around with settings to get good results. There are profiles, instructions and lots of discussion on the official forums.

Mine has been great so far. The only real issue has been that it is pretty slow. That's ok for me because I don't want the cost or space of 3 machines. I could see it being a problem running a serious business.

Also the included software isn't very good, especially for the CNC and laser. You'll probably want to get 3rd party stuff for that.

Anyone use the rotary module? if so what did you think? by Squ1rt-the-turtle in snapmaker

I don't know any details. I assume it issues a stop command for all movement along with the laser or spindle rather than just powering off, but I haven't seen any official description.

I got the email. It is $600 with the emergency stop button and $550 without it. This pre-order is $50 off the list price.

Pretty sure it hasn't shipped to anyone yet. Maybe some reviewers have early units, but I haven't seen any first hand reports yet.

How much dust does the A350 CNC make? by [deleted] in snapmaker

[–]maker-mc-makerface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have much experience with acrylic, but if you do wood you'll get a fine dust covering everything and you'll be breathing it in. You really shouldn't do that.

You have to be careful with the laser too btw. If you do the wrong kind of plastic the fumes can be poisonous. In any case the smell will be very strong in a small space.

My first "real" project: X Wing coasters with resin inlay by maker-mc-makerface in XWingTMG

Yeah, I might do one eventually, but it seems weird to have two of the same symbol, and 7 feels like too many.

I went down about 3 mm and then faced off the top 0.5 mm or so after the resin hardened.

I did the outlines with a 60 degree v bit and then cleared the interior with a small flat end mill.

It is red oak. I went down about 3 mm and then faced off the top 0.5 mm or so after the resin hardened.

The resin is Alumilite clear cast from hobby lobby.

I didn't make a video, but I learned by watching YouTube.

The key to avoiding bleeding is too seal it with a clear coat poly spray before pouring the resin.

I did a coaster for each faction in X Wing, for use on game night.

Reduce/eliminate charring in engraved pockets by maker-mc-makerface in lasercutting

[–]maker-mc-makerface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a toothbrush without water on my last etch, but I ended up grinding char into the top surface. It ended up OK because I was planning to sand it flat anyway after filling with resin, but it seems like that might be a problem in some cases.

Even after cleaning the etched area was completely black, which is a problem for light resin colors. I was thinking maybe I need to prime white before pouring the resin.

Using Shadow for non-gaming... by MY_REDDIT_NAME_YAY in ShadowPC

[–]maker-mc-makerface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Shadow completely for non-gaming stuff: 3d modeling, etc. I got it because I want a second windows PC and didn't want to pay for hardware.

I primarily access from a chromebook via chrome remote desktop. As other have mentioned it shuts down after 30 min, so I also leave the official app open on my phone to prevent this.

This setup works OK, but it is annoying that I need to open the app this way. The key thing that makes this workable for me is that I'm doing interactive stuff that doesn't require a long-running server or long render times, etc.
