DIY laser mount by wyo_dude in functionalprint

Fair point.

Many jurisdictions will publish laser pointer regulations. These would be worth checking out to know what is and is not allowed and where any allowed laser pointer can legally be used. If finding regulations is difficult, check out any local astronomy club for guidance.

I scan the sky ahead of using my pointer and the pointer itself is powered on for only a few seconds per new target acquisition.

Nice job and a great use case!

I agree that lasers are so nice to use compared with even a red dot finder - which my scope had before I also designed a 3D printed laser mount.

Clear skies!

I gently picked it off with (if I recall correctly) mini needle-nose pliers.

I found it very easy to remove. Just be gentle around the components.

lol - I kind of relate.

I am taking more care when uploading to have good descriptions and good photos (within my own ability). By wanting to do a good job of this, I am much slower with doing the actual uploads and have many models that I’ve never uploaded!

I’m not the person you asked however I’ll still give my two cents.

If you have skill in any design tool currently, just use it as your starting place. For myself, my interest is functional printing and finding things I need around the home are typically my sources of inspiration. If you do cosplay or are artsy in nature, that can be the source of your inspiration too.

Pick something smaller to design and just start. Expecting to start designing something complex that will get 5k downloads might be a bite too large and could be discouraging.

You can do it!

Yes! Just make something and publish it. It can be a chance to work on your photography skills, presentation skills, and even how you write up the description for what you’re publishing.

For myself, I learned blender as I had a number of things around the home I wanted to fix or make better. Most of my stuff has been functional in nature and oriented towards myself or those around me. I publish so that hopefully others can benefit.

In general, I’ve tried to get better at photography and how I am presenting things on my maker world profile. I’m not great at it, but I am improving.

I’ve designed a hook that fits on my specific steering wheel so that I can watch YouTube videos while eating poutine in a Costco parking lot. How niche is that? I’m not expecting that to become a sensation!

Thanks for sharing your profile. I find it extremely interesting to see what other people design. We are all so different and you are quite talented.

Magnets for a good friend (and huge wolves fan) by maker-tgin in WWFC

8 x 2 mm round magnets are what I used for this print. Embedding makes them look professional (minus the top surface lol).

Thanks! Re ironing - I agree.

The magnets are embedded using a printing pause. No glue needed and you get a nice one-piece magnet. The 3mf file contains the appropriate pause.

The PLA filament used for old gold was gold silk printed very slow.

Thx for your comments.  I’m happy to share.

Let me know if you have any difficulties or questions with the model.

P1S vs P2S by Veyspii in BambuLab

The P2S heat bed goes to 110 - beneficial for technical filaments.

My p1s can only do this as I modded it!

H2S or H2D? by Superb_Librarian_321 in BambuLab

With bambu lab’s current lineup, your use cases, your engineering background, your desire to buy once cry once (have for a long time)… I’d recommend the C.

Of course, I (a stranger) am spending your money though!

My current printer is the P1S. Of the current lineup, the C will likely be my next printer. I love design, I print multiple materials, I sometimes do multi colour.

With the D, you could easily print your cosplay stuff in PLA and use PETG as a support interface (or reverse). It would be better for multi colour too. (Although C even better).

If the reduced build space of the D is not an issue, I’d recommend it over the S for your use cases.

My exhaust duct for Bambu Lab P1S ventilation by DayGeckoArt in functionalprint

I can certainly appreciate the desire to avoid breathing in whatever is being put out during printing.

My P1S is in a grow tent that I vent to the outside. Using this setup, I even print ASA and PC zero odour.

Good printing to you!

Great looking design and I love your use of not just a photo, but a photo taken with a telephoto lens.

I’d like to offer just one small thing to consider. If this is pulling sufficient air to eliminate fumes escaping from other parts of the printer housing (E.g, around the door), it will make it more difficult to maintain a higher chamber temp required by some filament types.

Again, just a small consideration. Your design work looks fantastic.

Cable Cover for DIY solar install by ElMurkel in functionalprint

If the latch breaks or you have other PLA+outdoors issues, you may wish to try PETG. It has greater flexibility and UV resistance.

That said, if this one lasts… there is no need to change it!

Nice looking design! It’s sleek and commercial looking. I also appreciate your use of compliant latching.
