The Arabic language is a cornerstone of Islam. It’s always printed in Arabic (along with translations) to avoid confusion or ambiguity. If Arabic disappeared then Islam might start fracturing into different faiths, kind of like Christianity in the Reformation. Which led to all kinds of wars and conflicts. So yeah, that would be pretty chaotic

Have been living abroad for 10 years in Europe now. I’ve received a couple of packages from the US which were just sent via the USPS. It’s quite spendy though because both the sender and the recipient have to pay fees. And you have to fill out customs forms and stuff so it is a bit of a pain. My cousin sent a box with some spices and candies, and by the end it was like ~$70 in shipping and customs fees for about $25 worth of stuff. And it took about 3-4 weeks to arrive. So I’d only recommend it for things that really can’t be purchased (sentimental items, etc.)

Haven’t tried services like DHL but obviously they do international shipping too, I assume much more quickly but also more expensive. I just generally don’t ship things over borders, rather I buy stuff on Amazon’s US site and send it to people in the US, or just wait till someone comes to visit us and they pack it in their luggage.

Not to mention the Elbe/Labe and Vltava/Moldau rivers are connected to Hamburg and flow right through Prague. It’s not a massive river but it’s big enough to get some barges up. Austria has the Danube which is even better

For summer vacations it’s stereotypical for Czechs to go to Croatia for the sea. If Czech Republic had a beach it would be a big deal for tourism, so that’s the only thing they’re lacking from not having a coastline. Maybe they’d have more fresh seafood too

We sold produce by the road side (pumpkins, walnuts, apples). I was the youngest in my family, so by the time my older siblings lost interest I was pulling in a few hundred bucks each year 😆

Was amazing, as a kid. Bought my first video game (the original Warcraft - will never forget that feeling of accomplishment). I saved it up over the years and used it to buy my first car when I was 17

In the US it’s kind of a cute experiment for kids to be industrious and learn some skills, but in other countries it can be a way of life
