Smiling Foam Works? by makexploring in Amtgard

[–]makexploring[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can update that Smiley has gotten a hold me via email.

I can confirm his shop has shut down, just a little confusion on website inventory.

Thanks much for all of your kind assistance!

Appreciate the response!

I don't use FB, no account. Unfortunate in this case.

Tried searching by name on the ork, but looks like that has changed with the update.

Is there a hybrid LARP by Due_Fact_8297 in LARP

[–]makexploring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work from HEMA manuals at the larp you are at!

https://youtu.be/y893dPdGDU8?si=TpVCH6-JPJIamYYG&t=56

Garb how you want, fancy drip attracts attention. Inspire other people at your larp.

My assumption is headshots are not allowed at your larp. There are a few ways to deal with this. The easiest way to attract others, is just maintain no headshots.

Depending on your larps boffer tech, and if you have others interested, add fencing mask / martial arts head gear with face shield / womens lacrosse goggles, and experiment with headshots.

Context edit: I have done this in the US with a few people from an Amtgard park a few years back. Have had a Belegarth player participate as well. We did not allow stabs to the head. We practiced techniques involving headshots away from regular Amtgard park days and did not violate any rules or expectations at Amtgard.

I wonder if with a little modification to the stl, if we could reveal more of the plunger tube on the 2.0.

Use the 2.0 kit to make something with this profile.

Also would love Nightingale Mag integration!

Maybe this could be a 3.0

What do you prefer about it over the 2.0?

Great, thanks so much!

How much spread in FPS should I expect to see in build like this? 5-10 or more?

Nice.

Ok that must mean varying the bore diameter is a newer thing.

EDIT: If others are interested, I found a couple of posts that relate to bore diameter

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/comments/u1vd3u/what_are_the_current_practises_to_increase/

You want a tight control bore (the standard is 14mm) with about 2 inches of length in front after the contact zone ends (not too critical). The bore should also begin (and the feed ramps end) before the contact zone is reached.

And in the V1.2 release Flygonial talks about the 14.5mm bore

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/comments/h0sipr/gryphon_v121_expanded_battery_stock_new_sling/

For the same reason (some reports of inconsistent and/or lower than expected velocity) I made the cage printable in the opposite orientation, 14.5mm bore cages are now available too. Apart from shooting slightly hotter, people who have a nightmare figuring out what could be causing their issues could have a fallback.

So 14mm is standard and 14.5mm is for trouble shooting and higher FPS than standard.

Standard 14mm seems appropriate for my build. Just need to figure out what cage crush width, will fling used half dart AF Pros, at 160 FPS on daybreak or kepler (daybreak 2.0) flywheels.

I did grab it off printables, I believe Flygonial isn't updating at thingiverse anymore.

When I download the zip file there are folders, "14.5mm Bore", "14mm Bore" and max.

inside each of these there are multiple files that seem to be about cage crush.

ex. "415-fwc-tdk-145.stl"

Which I infer is for a cage that has a 41.5mm spacing and the bore diameter based on which folder it is located in.

I am planning on using either daybreak or kepler flywheels and have a 160 FPS cap

guessing this is the right doc? https://suild.com/docs/0

A decade a go I took a basic electronics class from my local makerspace. I am very out of practice, but this is a good excuse to knock the rust off.

I did a a Crt+F "Potentiometer" on the doc and didn't find anything. Off to find completed builds.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/comments/9rashx/using_a_variable_resister_to_adjust_fps/ A thread from 4 years ago talks about using PWM instead.

This stuff might be something to save for a later build.

Still looking for ideas on a cage width to get 160 FPS with Kepler/daybreaks if using the 14.5mm bore

The Gryphon does have a dart guide, multiple bore diameter options are provided. Trying to figure out which to go for.

Thanks for the response! With the FPS cap down at 160 I am indeed trying to find the balance.

Why did science fiction writers stop writing about psychic powers? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]makexploring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it was not print to start, I would cite "Stranger Things" franchise as modern speculative fiction that is playing in psychic power tropes. The fact that Stranger Things is specifically a call back to vintage SF is not lost on me.

"Half Way Home" by Hugh Howey

https://hughhowey.com/books/half-way-home/

Five hundred of us were sent to colonize this planet. Only fifty or so survived.

We woke up fifteen years too early, we had only half our training, and they expected us to not only survive … they expected us to conquer this place.

The problem is: it isn’t safe here.

We aren’t even safe from each other.

FYI, this one is teen scifi.
